Chapter 1-The Drunken Act 👀
Rain hammered against the windows that night, the sound almost hypnotic.
I hadn't slept properly in what felt like forever, so I was looking forward to finally getting some rest. I had barely closed my eyes when my phone suddenly rang.
Dring. Dring.
I reached for it and stared at the screen.
My boss.
I frowned.
Why was he calling me this late?
After a few seconds of hesitation, I answered.
“Hello?”
His voice came through the phone, low and unsteady.
“Can you please come over? I really need you…”
I immediately sat upright.
“Need me? Sir…?”
There was a brief silence.
Then the call ended.
I stared at my phone, confused.
Something was wrong.
My boss never called me this late at night. And his voice had sounded completely different from the calm, controlled voice I was used to hearing at the office.
Was he drunk?
Was he hurt?
Had something happened?
I pushed the questions aside.
I couldn't just stay in bed wondering.
I hurried downstairs, grabbed my keys, started the car, and drove straight to his house.
The rain fell harder as I drove, blurring the road ahead of me. My hands tightened around the steering wheel.
I just hoped he was okay.
When I finally arrived, I left my car at the gate and ran toward the front door.
I knocked.
Nothing.
I knocked again.
“Sir?”
Still nothing.
I tried calling him, but there was no answer.
Then I remembered the passcode.
I entered it and stepped inside.
“Sir?”
The house was unusually quiet.
I walked farther inside, calling for him again.
“Sir?”
Then I found him.
He was sitting on the floor with his back against the sofa, his head slightly lowered. He looked nothing like the composed, intimidating man I knew from the office.
I hurried over.
“Sir, are you okay?”
He slowly lifted his head.
“Fhghhh…”
I stared at him.
“You're drunk.”
He gave me a faint smile but didn't answer.
I sighed.
“Come on. You can't stay here. Let me help you up.”
I crouched beside him and helped him to his feet.
He leaned against me more heavily than I expected.
“Careful.”
I tried guiding him toward the sofa.
But before we could reach it, his hand suddenly closed around my wrist.
I froze.
He didn't say anything.
He simply looked at me.
Really looked at me.
There was something different in his eyes.
Something softer.
Something I had never seen before.
“Sir…?”
He remained silent.
Then he stepped closer.
My heart began pounding.
I gently tried to pull my wrist from his grasp.
“You're drunk. You should get some rest.”
For a moment, he didn't move.
Then he finally let go and sat down.
I turned away, pretending to focus on getting him comfortable.
But I couldn't stop thinking about the way he had looked at me.
There was something about it that I couldn't explain.
And the worst part?
I'd been trying to ignore my feelings for him for a very long time.
I had always told myself that it was impossible.
He was my boss.
I was his employee.
Nothing could ever happen between us.
At least, that's what I had believed.
Until that night.
I helped him lie down and pulled a blanket over him.
I was about to leave when his hand suddenly reached out and caught mine.
“Don't go…”
I looked back at him.
His eyes were half-closed.
“Please.”
My heart sank.
I hesitated before sitting beside him.
“I'm not going anywhere tonight.”
His fingers slowly loosened around mine.
I thought he had finally fallen asleep.
Then, barely above a whisper, he said my name.
I froze.
My name.
He knew it.
Of course he knew it. I was his employee.
But the way he had said it…
It sounded different.
Almost intimate.
I stared at him, my heart pounding against my chest.
Then a thought crossed my mind.
What if he wasn't as drunk as I thought?
I quickly dismissed it.
No.
That was impossible.
Or was it?
I had no idea that this night wasn't an accident.
And I certainly didn't know that my boss had planned for me to be there from the very beginning.
