Chapter 15:A FUTURE I CAN FINALLY SEE

For a long time, the future scared me.

I could think about tomorrow, but I could not clearly imagine where I would be a year from now.

There were too many unanswered questions.

Would I find a job?

Would I become independent?

Would I ever feel confident again?

Would I find peace?

Would the dreams I carried for so long finally become real?

I didn't have the answers.

But something had changed inside me.

I was no longer looking at the future only with fear.

I had started looking at it with curiosity.

Maybe my life could become different from what I had imagined.

Maybe the disappointments I had experienced were not the end of my story.

Maybe they were simply part of the journey that was preparing me for something else.

I began thinking about the woman I wanted to become.

I wanted to be independent.

I wanted to earn my own money and know that I could take care of myself.

I wanted to continue learning and improving my skills.

I wanted to write more.

I wanted my words to reach people I had never met.

And I wanted to look back one day and know that I had not allowed difficult seasons to stop me.

I also wanted to become more comfortable with myself.

For years, I had allowed insecurity to convince me that I was not beautiful enough, successful enough, or good enough.

Now I was learning that I did not have to wait until I became someone else before I could appreciate who I already was.

I could improve myself without hating the person I was today.

I could have goals without being ashamed of where I was starting.

I could want more for myself without believing that my current life had no value.

That realization gave me peace.

I started understanding that rebuilding a life is not about suddenly having everything.

It is about taking small steps toward the person you want to become.

One application.

One opportunity.

One page.

One lesson.

One brave decision.

One day at a time.

I still had moments when fear returned.

But now, when fear spoke, I tried not to let it make my decisions for me.

I reminded myself that I had already survived uncertainty before.

I could survive it again.

The future was still unknown, but it no longer felt completely dark.

I could finally see small pieces of it.

I could see myself working again.

I could see myself becoming financially independent.

I could see myself continuing to write.

I could see myself laughing more.

I could see myself surrounded by people who genuinely cared about me.

And I could see myself becoming peaceful with the woman I was.

Maybe everything would not happen exactly the way I imagined.

Maybe some dreams would change.

Maybe new dreams would appear along the way.

And that was okay.

I no longer needed to have every answer.

I only needed enough courage to keep moving.

The girl from Biafra had spent many years wondering what life would become.

Now she was beginning to believe that she could have a hand in creating that future herself.

And for the first time, when I thought about tomorrow, I didn't feel like I was waiting for my life to begin.

I felt like I was already living it.

My story was still being written.

And I was ready to see what the next page would bring.
