THE SAD GOOD BYE
Goodbye
"Amara, honey, we're going to be late!"
Her mom's voice echoed through the house.
Amara stood in the middle of her bedroom, staring at the boxes around her.
She was really leaving.
Canada.
Her home.
And most importantly... Blake.
Her childhood best friend.
Amara grabbed her suitcase and slowly walked downstairs.
At the airport, Amara sat beside her mom, staring at the bracelet around her wrist.
It was handmade.
The threads weren't perfectly even, and the little bead in the middle was slightly crooked.
But to Amara, it was perfect.
Blake had made it for her.
Before she left, Amara had one last thing to give him.
She reached into her bag and pulled out a tiny silver necklace with a star-shaped charm.
When Blake arrived at the airport, she held it out to him.
"I got this for you."
Blake stared at the necklace.
"For me?"
Amara nodded.
"So you'll remember me."
He smiled.
"I don't think I could ever forget you."
He carefully put the necklace around his neck.
Then he pulled out a small handmade bracelet.
"I made this for you."
Amara smiled as she put it on.
"I love it."
"Promise you'll keep it?"
"Promise."
They hugged tightly.
"I'll miss you, Blake."
"I'll miss you too, Amara."
She wiped her tears and gave him one last smile before walking toward the gate.
She didn't know when she'd see him again.
Years Later...
Canada
Amara stepped outside the airport with her suitcase.
The cold Canadian air hit her face.
She pulled her jacket tighter and looked around.
Everything felt familiar...
but strangely different.
She glanced down at her wrist.
The bracelet was still there.
She ran her fingers over the tiny bead.
A small smile appeared on her face.
She wondered what Blake was doing now.
Maybe he had forgotten about her.
Honestly, she couldn't blame him.
They had been children when she left.
Years had passed.
People changed.
Friends moved on.
Maybe the little boy who had made this bracelet didn't even remember the promise they made at the airport.
Amara sighed.
"He's probably forgotten me by now."
She slipped her hand into her pocket and continued toward the car.
She had no idea what Blake's life looked like anymore.
And maybe...
it was better that way.
