Lucia’s life is complicated - she’s a single mom bartending to make ends meet while dealing with her ex Nate, who happens to be a police officer. One night, she has a passionate fling with James, a charming Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgeon. Though it was meant to be just a one-night stand, James can’t stop thinking about the mysterious Lucia after she disappears on him.
When James tracks Lucia down at her job, he’s horrified to find her battered and bruised, but she refuses to confide in him about what happened. James keeps insinuating himself into Lucia’s life against her wishes, until one night he has to rescue her from an attacker at the bar. Taking the unconscious Lucia to his hotel room, James calls his brother Aiden and friend Theo, who are also surgeons, for help.
As James, Aiden, and Theo work together to care for Lucia, an intense bond begins to develop between the four. What started as an illicit fling morphs into a complicated romantic entanglement, with the three men determined to show Lucia and her daughter the love they deserve. An unlikely reverse harem forms around the guarded but loyal Lucia.

This is not a situation where the woman must pick her one true love by the end of the novel; instead, the woman simply does not choose. She gets them all, and they all live out there happily ever after as one united family. The HEA of a traditional romance still exists, though it is a happily ever after for the entire family unit, not between just one of the men and the woman.
Entering into this atypical relationship is completely voluntary and something all members of the harem agree upon. The men’s love toward the woman is enough to get them all to agree; sometimes they know ahead of time they will share a woman, and in other novels they simply all want the girl.
