Chapter 1: the boy everyone knows

The name Gio Carter was known by almost everyone at Westbridge Academy.

Some students knew him as the richest student in school. Others knew him as the boy who never seemed nervous, never lost a competition, and always walked through the hallways like he owned the place.

But what most people didn't know was that behind the expensive clothes, perfect grades, and confident smile was a boy who spent most of his evenings alone.

Gio sat inside his large house, staring at the empty dining table in front of him. The house was beautiful, with huge windows, expensive furniture, and everything money could buy.

Everything except company.

His parents were always traveling for business, leaving him with more money than he could spend but less time with the people he wanted around.

His phone buzzed.

Michael: "Are you coming to school tomorrow or are you planning to disappear again?"

Gio smiled slightly.

Michael was one of the few people who could talk to him normally. He never cared about Gio's money.

Gio: "I'll be there."

A few seconds later, another message appeared.

Michael: "Good. The others are already preparing for the science competition. Don't make us lose because our leader is too busy being mysterious."

Gio shook his head.

Michael always knew how to annoy him.

The next morning, Westbridge Academy was louder than usual.

Students filled the hallways, talking about upcoming events and competitions. Teachers walked around with folders while everyone rushed to their classes.

As Gio entered the school, conversations immediately started.

"That's Gio."

"The top student again."

"Do you think he will win the competition this year too?"

Gio ignored the whispers and continued walking.

Behind him were his closest friends.

Michael walked beside him with a smile.

"You know, one day you should stop acting like you don't hear people talking about you."

Gio looked at him calmly.

"Why?"

"Because everyone is obsessed with you."

Samuel laughed. "He's not wrong."

John adjusted his backpack. "Gio just doesn't care."

Brent smiled. "That's exactly why everyone finds him interesting."

Jeremy remained quiet, watching everything around him like he always did.

They were known as the smartest group in school. They worked hard, took competitions seriously, and rarely allowed distractions.

But that was about to change.

Across the school entrance, a new student stepped inside.

Her name was Talia Brooks.

Unlike most students at Westbridge Academy, she wasn't there because of wealth or family connections.

She earned her place through a scholarship.

Talia held her books tightly as she looked around the huge school. Everything felt unfamiliar, but she reminded herself why she was there.

She worked hard for this opportunity.

She wasn't going to let anyone make her feel like she didn't belong.

A girl with a bright smile approached her.

"You're new, right?"

Talia nodded.

"I'm Annabelle. These are Precious, Eliana, and Elizabeth."

The girls welcomed her warmly.

"We heard a scholarship student was joining this year," Elizabeth said. "But don't worry. Everyone here isn't as scary as they look."

Talia smiled.

"Good. Because I came here to study, not to be scared."

Eliana laughed.

"I think we're going to like you."

Later that day, the principal made an announcement.

"Students, this year’s academic challenge will be different. The best students from different groups will work together as one team."

The entire hall became silent.

Then the names appeared on the screen.

Gio Carter.

Michael Anderson.

Samuel Reed.

John Blake.

Brent Wilson.

Jeremy Cole.

And then another group.

Talia Brooks.

Annabelle Hayes.

Precious Lane.

Eliana Rose.

Elizabeth Moore.

The students immediately started whispering.

"The two smartest groups together?"

"This will be interesting."

After the announcement, Gio looked at the list.

He had worked with his friends for years.

Now he had to work with strangers.

At the same time, Talia looked at the same names.

She had heard about Gio Carter.

The rich boy everyone admired.

The boy who seemed impossible to impress.

Their first meeting was only a few hours away.

Neither of them knew that this competition would bring two completely different worlds together.

A world of wealth.

A world of hard work.

And a connection neither of them expected.
