Chapter 1

They were here.

I could feel them the moment they entered our neighborhood. Their footsteps echoed through the silent streets, growing louder with every passing second.

My little brother and I were crammed inside a narrow closet, our trembling hands pressed tightly over our mouths to keep even the smallest sound from escaping. Across the room, our mother hid beneath the table, her frightened eyes fixed on us. The entire house was consumed by silence except for the slow, terrifying sound of footsteps drawing closer.

I have hated this place my entire life. Perhaps it was because of when I was born or where I was born. It didn’t matter anymore. Nothing here resembled a home. Nothing was left that could truly belong to humans, to us. Right now, I had only one goal, which was to survive this hell hole. Survive for myself, for my little brother, Cain, and for our mother. I wanted us to run away from here. To escape this nightmare and never look back. But escape was impossible. Every plan that was cooking in my brain was useless, there was no way out. They were everywhere.

Outside, the desperate screams of our neighbors tore through the air. Families cried out for mercy as they were slaughtered bythem, one after another. Every scream was a grim reminder that death was drawing closer to our door.

Then I heard it.

Our front door crashed open.

In that instant, I knew survival was never written into our destiny. We were going to die. Still, deep in my heart, I prayed for a miracle that would never come. Peering through the narrow crack in the closet door, I watched one of them seize my mother by the hair and drag her across the floor. Her screams echoed through the house, raw and desperate, but her eyes never left the closet. They pleaded with me. β€œDon’t come out”. My heart felt as though it were being carved apart. Beside me, Cain began to sob uncontrollably. I quickly covered his eyes with one hand and pulled him against my chest, praying he wouldn’t make a sound.

I couldn’t let him see this. I already knew my mother wasn’t coming back. Then I heard the cold scrape of steel leaving its sheath. A single, bloodcurdling scream shattered the silence. She died. They beheaded her.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I closed my eyes, but the heavy weight of reality snapped them open. Cain made a muffled, choked sound. He was just a child, but he already understood our mother was gone. Before I could stop him, he bolted from the closet, sprinting outside where they had dragged her. β€œNo, Cain, come back!” I whispered frantically, but he vanished through the front door. Without a second thought, I gave chase. The moment I burst outside, we froze. Looming over us was a massive vampire guard. Yes, we were born into a world shared with vampires, monsters who inherently hated our kind. Just yesterday morning, their king had issued a brutal decree to slaughter every human, behead them, do whatever they pleased, as long as we all ended up dead. I watched in horror as guards seized my little brother. Cain was sobbing uncontrollably, pleading through his tears as he stared at something with eyes full of horror. When I followed his gaze, my heart shattered. There lay our mother. Her severed head was tossed aside, blood pooling from her lifeless, decapitated body.

A raw scream tore from my throat just as the guards slammed me hard against the ground. That wasn’t the end of the nightmare. All around me lay the lifeless bodies of hundreds of families, strewn across the ground. They slaughtered everyone with ruthless cruelty, children, adults, and the elderly alike. No one was saved from their curse that felt like a shooting star. There had been no warning. No mercy. No banners proclaiming, β€œRun before we slaughter you.” They even butchered a newborn baby right before my eyes. The guards forced me to my knees, their hands digging painfully into my shoulders. One of them raised his sword, ready to behead me. Then a cold voice cut through the air. β€œLeave her to him.” The guards immediately stepped back.

King Theodore.

The ruler of the vampires stood before me, his expression void of mercy. Beside him stood his son, the crown prince and future king, Xavier. His eyes met mine, calm and confident, as though my life meant nothing. Ignoring the sword at my neck, I cried out, β€œKill me if you must... but please... I beg you... leave my brother alone!”

My voice cracked as tears blurred my vision. β€œPlease... don’t hurt him!” Xavier slowly turned his gaze toward Cain. A cruel smirk spread across his lips. β€œPathetic.” He looked at the guards restraining my little brother. β€œTake the boy to the castle,” he ordered. β€œI’ll have my fun with him before I decide how to kill him.” King Theodore chuckled in approval, placing a proud hand on his son’s shoulder. I felt my blood run cold. β€œNo!” I struggled against the guards with everything I had. β€œNot my brother! Please!” Cain screamed my name as they dragged him away. His tiny hands reached for me, begging me not to let them take him. I could do nothing. I could only watch as he disappeared from my sight. Then I noticed Xavier unsheathing his sword. The steel gleamed beneath the gray sky as he stepped closer, stopping just inches away from me. He lowered the tip of the blade beneath my chin, forcing me to meet his eyes.

β€œWe’re not killing you,” he said with a smile that chilled me to my core. β€œWe’re simply cleaning the trash from this world.” With a single flash of his razor-sharp sword, my neck was deeply slashed, not fully severed, but enough to seal my fate. My vision blurred instantly as my body crashed to the dirt, blood pouring from the wound. I knew this was the end. Paralyzed, I watched helplessly as they dragged Cain away, before casting a final glimpse at my mother’s lifeless body. A tear rolled down from my eyes towards the ground. Nearby stood Xavier, the King’s son and The King, Theodore himself. They watched my death with a sickening amusement, They loved how I was dying slowly.. Before the darkness claimed me entirely, I locked my gaze deep into Xavier’s eyes, swearing a silent vow ”I will come back.”Then, my eyes closed, and everything went cold.

I think God heard the vow I made in silence... because He sent me back into that hell once again. Perhaps peace was never meant for me. Then again... this was the path I had asked for.

I was reincarnated. That was five hundred years ago. I was no longer a mere human. I was a witch. And I remembered everything. Every scream. Every drop of blood. Every face I lost. Five centuries had passed, yet nothing had changed. The vampires no longer massacred humans in the streets, but they had found something far crueler. They turned them into slaves. Humans spent their lives toiling until their bodies gave out, only to die from exhaustion while the vampires watched from their thrones.

The nightmare had never ended. It had simply taken a different form. But this time...I refuse to be the helpless girl hiding in a closet. I will tear their kingdom apart. I will free my people. And I will make that son of a bitch who destroyed my family, pay for every life he stole. This time..I will be the one hunting him.

They thought I was just another helpless human someone they could kill and move on from. They never imagined that the girl they had destroyed centuries ago would be reborn as a Witch to destroy their lives. But fate gave me a second chance. A chance to make them regret every cruel decision they have ever made.

Although, I suppose God was never completely kind to me either.

Being a witch is no easier than being human. In fact, sometimes it is worse. Now both humans and vampires hate us. Witches are feared, hunted, and burned in front of crowds as if our lives mean nothing. But I am proud of what I am. I am a witch. I was born into a family of witches, born with magic flowing through my veins. My powers were a part of me from the very beginning. And even though the world wanted me to see it as a curse, I learned to see it as my greatest weapon. My magic has given me something no one else has the ability to transform myself. I can take the form of a vampire, grow fangs, and become one of them. That’s how we all hide to live in this society that hates witches. And that is exactly the advantage I am going to use. I will enter their pathetic castle, walk among them without suspicion, and slowly destroy the pillars that hold their cruel empire together. I will tear down everything they have built on the suffering of others.

I will have my revenge. It took me two hundred years to master this ability. Two hundred years of endless practice, learning, failing, and trying again. But now, after all this time, I have finally achieved what I once thought was impossible.

Three hundred years ago, I was reincarnated with all the memories of my past life still intact. I remembered the lives that were taken, the people I lost, and the pain they left behind. When I was reborn, I already knew who I was a witch. I was raised among my own kind, surrounded by witches who helped me understand my powers. They taught me ancient spells, gave me a book filled with forgotten magic, and guided me as I learned to control the abilities I was born with.

For two hundred years, I trained. Every time I remembered what happened, my heart sank. Every time I thought of facing them, I knew I wasn’t ready. My anger was strong, but my power wasn’t. Not yet. But now I am stronger. I am still learning. I am still becoming more powerful every day. But I finally have what I need. My magic. My memories. And my ability to become one of them. They took everything from me once. This time, I am taking everything from them.

Also, my name was Vanora in my previous life. But after being reincarnated, I was given a new name, Rhymeria. A new life, a new beginning... but I refused to forget the person I once was. I kept the name Vanora as a reminder of my human life, of the pain I endured, the people I lost, and everything that was taken away from me. It is a reminder of the girl who suffered and the reason I continue to fight.

So now, I carry both names.

My full name is Rhymeria Vanora.
