Prologue: Penthouse
Laura stepped out of the elevator with trembling hands and stared at the penthouse door to her left.
She had never been here before.
Tonight was going to be a night she would never forget.
The man waiting behind that door would be her first.
Her first kiss.
And her first....
She let out a quiet sigh as her eyes remained fixed on the door.
For a moment, she simply stood there, lost in thought.
Her fingers slowly curled at her sides, while an uneasy feeling settled in the pit of her stomach.
Something about the silence made her feel that whatever happened next would change everything.
She swallowed hard, trying to calm the nervous flutter in her chest. Her fingers tightened around the strap of her handbag.
Taking a deep breath, Laura finally raised her hand and pressed the doorbell.
For a moment, there was nothing but silence.
Then she heard footsteps approaching from the other side.
Her heart stopped.
The door slowly opened.
And there he was.
The penthouse was shrouded in darkness.
Laura could barely make out the face of the man standing before her. The only thing she could clearly see was the glass of wine in his hand, catching the faint, dim light whenever he moved.
The silence around them felt heavy.
She stood frozen near the doorway, her heart pounding against her chest as she tried to adjust her eyes to the darkness.
She could feel his gaze on her, even though she couldn't see his eyes.
Then, slowly, he raised the glass to his lips and took a quiet sip.
The soft clink of the glass against his fingers echoed through the empty room.
Laura swallowed nervously.
For the first time that night, she wondered if coming here had been a mistake.
From the man's stature and commanding presence, Laura could tell that he wasn't particularly old.
There was something youthful yet undeniably powerful about him. Even standing in the shadows, his tall frame and broad shoulders gave him an air of confidence that made her suddenly conscious of her own nervousness.
She couldn't see his face clearly, but somehow, she had a feeling that the man standing before her was far younger than she had imagined.
And that realization only made her heart beat faster.
Before she could even utter a word, the man suddenly reached for her and pulled her inside.
Laura gasped in surprise as the door closed behind her with a soft click.
For a moment, she stood completely still, her heart pounding as the darkness surrounded them once again.
She could feel his presence standing dangerously close.
Yet she still couldn't see his face.
In a blink of an eye he reached for her hands and gently lifted it, guiding it above her head.
The glass of wine slipped from his hand and fell onto the carpeted floor, the soft thud barely making a sound.
Laura's breath caught as he stepped closer, his presence making her pulse race. She could feel the warmth of his body despite the darkness surrounding them.
She remained frozen, unsure of what to say, while his fingers slowly tightened around hers.
This is it
The thought screamed inside Laura's mind.
She squeezed her eyes shut when his left hand settled around her waist, pulling her closer.
Her heart hammered against her chest, overwhelmed by nervousness and anticipation. She could barely breathe.
For a few heartbeats, neither of them spoke.
The silence seemed to stretch endlessly, filled only by the sound of Laura's nervous breathing.
"You seem nervous."
He pulled away from her and took a step backward.
For the first time, he spoke.
Laura froze.
His deep, husky voice broke through the silence, sending a strange shiver down her spine. She slowly turned toward him, her heart pounding harder than before.
She still couldn't see his face clearly in the darkness.
But now, she could finally hear his voice.
Why did his voice sound so familiar to her?
Laura's brows knitted together as she tried to remember where she had heard it before. There was something about the deep, steady tone that tugged at a distant memory.
It was faint, almost forgotten.
Yet somehow, she knew she had heard that voice somewhere before.
She just couldn't remember where.
"You can leave now."
His voice was calm but firm.
"I never force myself on anyone."
Laura fell silent.
For a moment, she simply stood there, staring into the darkness, her heart pounding as she struggled with the decision before her.
She could leave.
But she knew why she had come.
And she needed the money.
"I'm not leaving," she said.
Her voice trembled slightly, but there was determination in her eyes.
For a moment, the man said nothing.
Laura took a deep breath, forcing herself to remain composed despite the nervousness twisting inside her.
"I came here willingly," she added quietly. "And I intend to stay."
Laura took a step toward him until only an inch of space remained between them.
Her breath caught as she stood so close that she could feel the warmth radiating from his body.
The darkness concealed his expression, but Laura could feel his gaze fixed on her.
Her heart raced.
Yet this time, she didn't step back.
Without warning, he pulled her closer, closing the distance between them.
Before Laura could react, his lips met hers in a sudden, passionate kiss.
Her eyes widened in surprise, her breath catching as she stood frozen in his arms.
For a moment, the world seemed to disappear—the darkness, the silence, and everything beyond the walls of the penthouse.
There was only the warmth of his lips against hers and the pounding of her heart.
She returned his kiss, her arms slowly wrapping around him.
The warmth between them intensified as she drew closer, surrendering to the emotions she had been trying so hard to suppress.
There was only the closeness between them—their racing hearts, uneven breaths, and the undeniable tension filling the darkness of the penthouse.
His fingers slowly moved to the buttons of her sleeveless, knee-length dress, carefully undoing them one by one while their lips remained locked in a heated kiss.
Laura's breath caught as she felt his touch, her heart racing with nervous anticipation.
Neither of them spoke.
The silence of the penthouse seemed to deepen around them as they stood close, completely absorbed in the moment.
Laura barely knew how they had ended up on the soft leather couch.
One moment, they had been standing in the dimly lit penthouse, and the next, she found herself sinking into the softness of the sofa, her heart beating wildly in her chest.
Everything around her seemed to fade—the darkness, the city lights beyond the windows, and even the questions racing through her mind.
All she could feel was the warmth of his presence beside her.
When he could no longer resist the emotions between them, he pulled her into his arms.
Laura surrendered to the moment, her eyes closing as their lips met once more.
The rest of the night passed in a blur of whispered words, lingering touches, and emotions neither of them could put into words.
Outside, the city continued to glitter beneath the midnight sky.
Inside the penthouse, two people crossed a line that neither of them would ever be able to forget.
