Chapter 24
CHAPTER 24 — THE HOUSE REMEMBERS
Beatrice, Nathaniel, and Elias return from beneath Breedlove Manor, but the house no longer feels the same.
The hidden staircase disappears behind them, leaving no trace that it ever existed. Yet each sibling carries a different impression of what happened below, and Beatrice cannot shake the feeling that something followed them back.
As they move through the Manor, familiar rooms begin revealing strange details. Objects appear where they should not be, portraits seem to remember people who have long since disappeared, and the house begins responding to the siblings in increasingly personal ways.
Beatrice discovers that the rose-shaped mark on the corridor door has vanished, but a faint mark has appeared on her palm where the rose key once rested.
Nathaniel finds an old family record containing a reference to three unnamed Guardians.
Elias discovers something even more disturbing: the record appears to have been written recently, despite being kept in an ancient section of the Manor.
Then the Manor speaks again.
This time, it does not give them another command.
It gives them a name.
And Beatrice realizes that the house may not simply remember its past.
It may remember them.
