So Long, Goodnight

ZEPHYR’S POV

“Hello?” A voice on the other line said as he picked up my call. I smiled as i heard his voice.

“Still at work, love?” I asked.

“Yes, love. But i’m on my way to the restaurant. You know how much i am looking forward about our date.”

“Alright. I guess i’ll see you there. I love you.”

“Okay take care. I love you too.” Then he hunged up. I glanced at the small box placed on the coffee table. Honestly, i also looked forward about our date. Because this is the perfect time for me to ask his hand in marriage. I want to spend the rest of my life with him. The person who accepted my flaws, the one who stares at me like he’s gonna hung up the stars in the sky. I picked up the box and immediately go as i don’t want to keep him waiting for long. While driving, i dialed his number to ask if he had arrived.

“Hey, Love i’m on my way.” I said as he answered the phone.

“Yeah, me too. See you soon. I love you.”

“I Love—-” I didn’t even finished my sentence as i heard loud crash and....

“ZEPH!!”

I immediately opened my eyes as i catch my breathe. What the fuck was that nightmare? I immediately looked at him and saw him staring at me. I hugged him and checked if he’s alright.

“Damn, Nyx! Are you okay?” I panickly asked.

“I should be the one asking that question. You seem like having a nightmare. I’m having a hard time trying to wake you up.” He answered calmly, but the traces of worry and nervousness still present in his voice. I don’t want to worry him much so i embraced him to calm both of us down.

“I’m fine. It’s just the nigtmare was so bad. You’re in it and it feel so fucking real.” I said. Calmness starts to embrace me as i felt Nyx’s hand gently tapping my back.

“It’s okay. It’s just a dream. Im here. It’s okay if you don’t tell me about the dream if you’re uncomfortable.”

“I already prepared our breakfast. Let’s go.” He said and gently kissed my lips.

It’s been 7 years but everytime it feels like we’ve been together for a while. Nyx Zion Ferrer. Everybody called him ‘Nyx’, he prefer to use his first name rather than the second one. We met when we were in college, and the ironic part is we’re both taking chemical engineering. No matter how many years passed by, the feeling of the first meeting still lingers on.

4 years ago

First day of freshman year. I arrived at the university earlier than my schedule since it is just near our place. The anxiety still lingers as i roam around the campus. The campus is bigger than i thought. Too many buildings to the point that i felt lost. Luckily, the weather was good. The breeze of warm air helps to damp my sweat as im walking for minutes now. I entered the building where my first class will be held. As i was about to turn around the corner, somebody bumps into me.

“Sorry.”

We both said at the same time. He smiled lightly. I blinked as i stared at him. My heart skipped a beat as rays of sun hits his face which shows more of his ethereal beauty. The dimple on his right cheek, his perfectly sharp nose. He was a little bit shorter than me but his charisma can literally capture everybody’s heart and attention.

“Hello?” I stopped daydreaming when he spoke which brought me back to reality. What the hell am i thinking? Im straight and currently have a girlfriend so why am i fantasizing about this guy. Actually couldn’t deny he is really good looking.

“Uh, yeah?” I answered as i tried to compose myself.

“I was looking for this class.” He said as he walks towards me then shows a piece of paper containing his schedule.

“We’re looking at the same class. So i guess you’re my classmate.” I said.

“Seems like it. By the way, i’m Nyx.”

“Zephyr.”

“I guess we should go. You don’t wanna be late on first day of school, yeah?” I nodded and then we proceed looking for our class. The day passed calmly, it was chill since everything is all about introduction and syllabus orientations. Nyx and i already made friends: Ellis Marjorie, Skylar Renee, Henry Julianne. Meeting and creating a circle with them doesn’t seem bad. We were in the middle of chattering when i saw Emery walking to our direction.

“Hey, babe.” I greeted her then kissed her forehead.

“Seems like someone is already taken.” Skylar teased.

“Everyone i want you to meet, Emery. My girlfriend. Emery, this is my classmates, Ellis, Skylar, Henry and Nyx.” They all smile at her and after that we excused ourselves as we had a date today.

Present

When Nyx finished preparing the breakfast, we sat down enjoying the breakfast he made. Nyx is really a husband material. He is so caring and gentle. Maybe that traits of his made me fall in love with him.

“Love, until what time are you?” He asked.

“I might be doing overtime again. Boss wants to rush this product so i have to work late. You don’t have to wait for me to arrive home. I know you’re also busy in your work.” I answered. He smiled and nods his head.

Silence embraced us after. I know behind those smile, he was disappointed. The two of us barely had time for each other, or maybe just me. I excused myself as i finished my food and went straight to the bathroom.

“I already packed your lunch.” Nyx said as he handed me my lunchbox.

“Thanks.” I said and gave him a kiss before i heads out.

“Zup, Zeph. Good morning!” I almost jumped when Theodore greets me with such enthusiasmas if we didn’t meet yesterday.

“Damn you! You almost gave me a heart attack. Good morning to you, too.”

“By the way, you wouldn’t believe this. Do you remember the investor that boss told us? She’s coming here to visit.” Theodore said amusingly.

“Well that’s great. I guess” i answered.

“Seems like it didn’t piqued your interest, per se?” He chuckled.

“Come on, there’s too much on my plate. I’m not intersted on whomever she is.”

Then the door in our office suddenly opened, revealing our boss and a familiar face. My world suddenly slowed down, it suddenly became too cold as our eyes met. It’s been years but it feels like it just happened yesterday.

“Zeph”

“Emery”

My throat felt dry and i could feel my hands ran cold as i mentioned her name. It’s been more than 7 years. Too many questions that until now i haven’t had an answer.

“Do you know each other? Seems like you have seen a ghost”. I didn’t mind what theodore asks. My gaze and attention are fixated to the girl in front of me.

The girl who left me with too many unanswered questions.

The girl whom i loved first.

But also the person who left me and hurts me the most.
