THE HEIR'S FINAL TEST

"You have one week to decide whether you're ready to inherit everything I've built."

Adrian Blackwood slowly lowered his phone.

For a moment, he thought he had heard his father wrong.

"What?"

Richard Blackwood sat behind his enormous mahogany desk, his expression as calm as ever. The older man didn't repeat himself immediately.

Instead, he watched his son carefully, as though he were studying his reaction.

"You heard me."

Adrian leaned back in his chair and let out a short laugh.

Dad, you've been telling me for years that the company will be mine.

"It will."

Richard paused.

"If you prove you're worthy of it."

The smile disappeared from Adrian's face.

He had expected many things from his father that morning. Another meeting. Another lecture about the company. Perhaps another reminder that he would soon be taking over as CEO.

He hadn't expected this.

What's that supposed to mean?

Richard stood and walked toward the enormous window behind his desk. From the top floor of Blackwood Corporation, the city stretched beneath them like a miniature kingdom.

This company wasn't built in a day," Richard said. "I spent thirty years building it.

"I know."

And you think because you're my son, I'll simply hand it over to you?

Adrian frowned.

"I've worked for it."

Richard turned around.

You've attended meetings. You've studied business. You've spent time in the company.

"Exactly."

From your father's office.

Adrian went silent,Richard continued.

You know how executives behave around you because they know who you are. You know how employees behave when the CEO'S son walks into a room.

He walked back toward his desk.

But you don't know how they behave when they think nobody important is watching.

Adrian stared at him, So what are you saying?

"I'm saying you're going to find out."

Richard opened a drawer and pulled out a folder.

He placed it on the desk.

Adrian looked at it but didn't touch it and asked what's this?

Your new identity, Richard said.

Adrian's eyebrows rose, "My what?"

You'll be joining Blackwood Corporation as an ordinary employee.

Adrian actually laughed.

You can't be serious.

I am Richard said.

You want me to pretend to be poor?

I want you to pretend to be someone who has nothing to do with this family.

Adrian pushed the folder away.

"Why?"

Richard replied because I want to know who you are when nobody knows you're the heir.

Adrian stared at his father.

Richard's expression remained firm.

You'll work in the company. You'll interact with employees. You'll follow instructions. You'll earn your salary like everyone else.

And if I refuse?

Richard didn't hesitate, then you're not ready to become CEO.

The words hit harder than Adrian expected.

He clenched his jaw.

His father's company wasn't just a business to him.

It was his future.

The position he'd been preparing for his entire life.

The Blackwood name came with expectations, and Adrian had never imagined himself walking away from them.

You have one month, Richard said.

One month?

One month to prove you can understand the people you're about to lead.

Adrian picked up the folder.

Inside was a fake identity.

Name: Adrian Carter.

Age: 26.

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Occupation: Newly hired junior administrative assistant.

No family fortune.

No famous surname

No luxury apartment.

No expensive car.

Nothing that connected him to Richard Blackwood.

Adrian stared at the photograph attached to the documents.

"This is ridiculous."

Richard raised an eyebrow.

Then prove me wrong.

Adrian looked up.

And what exactly am I supposed to discover?

CHARACTER, Richard sat down.

People behave differently when they think someone has money.

He paused.

I want you to learn who deserves your trust.

Adrian looked back at the folder.

And after I pass?

I'll announce you as the next CEO.

That was all Adrian needed to hear.

He closed the folder.

"FINE."Richard nodded.

But there's one rule.

Adrian stopped.

"What?"

You cannot tell anyone who you are.

Not even the executives?

Especially not them.

Adrian gave a faint smile.

"Alright." Richard's eyes narrowed.

And Adrian?

Yes?

If you fail...

He paused.

You won't inherit the company.

For the first time, Adrian's confidence disappeared completely.

He nodded.

"I won't fail."

Three days later, a black luxury car pulled up outside Blackwood Corporation.

Adrian stepped out.

He was wearing a simple shirt, cheap-looking trousers and an old backpack.

No designer watch, No expensive shoes, No driver, No security, No trace of the billionaire who had walked into the same building hundreds of times before.

He looked up at the enormous glass building.

BLACKWOOD CORPORATION.

For the first time in his life, he was about to enter his father's company as a nobody.

He took a deep breath, "Let's see what this place is really like."

He walked through the doors, Nobody recognized him

And strangely enough... He liked it.

For once, nobody was staring at him because of his surname.

Nobody was trying to impress him.

Nobody was treating him like the future CEO.

He was just Adrian.

At least, that's what everyone thought.

He reached the reception desk.

Good morning, the receptionist said without looking up. Can I help you?

I'm here for the administrative department.

She finally looked at him.

Name?

"Adrian Carter."

She typed something into her computer.

You're the new employee?

"Yes."

She pointed toward the elevators.

Twenty-third floor.

Thank you.

Adrian walked away.

He smiled to himself.

Everything was going according to plan.

Until he stepped into the elevator.

The doors were just about to close when a woman's hand stopped them.

"Hold on!"

The doors opened again.

A young woman rushed inside, holding a stack of files against her chest.

"Thank you."

Adrian stepped aside.

She pressed a button and adjusted the files in her arms.

Neither of them said anything.

Then one file slipped from the pile.

Adrian caught it before it hit the floor.

"You almost dropped this."

She looked at him.

"Oh. Thank you."

"No problem."

She took the file from him.

Their eyes met for a brief moment.

Then she looked away.

The elevator continued rising.

Adrian didn't know it yet, but that ordinary elevator ride was the beginning of a story that would change everything.

Because the woman standing beside him wasn't just another employee.

And neither of them knew...

they were about to become the biggest part of each other's lives.
