Chapter 1
You killed her”, followed by a gun shot .This was the statement of the neighbour Mrs. Agatha.
She has stayed with us for years ,I have watched her grow up. She and her brother used to climb on the mango tree in my backyard. Sophia was a bright child, always calm and composed ,until she met ….her boyfriend. They started dating last fall . In these quite months she wasn't the bestest version of herself. She visibly had lost a lot of weight. Her brother hated seeing her like that. Ron disliked Patrick ,they were classmates in high-school.
That day, like a normal day ,Patrick had come over to meet Sophia . They looked like a loving couple ,deeply in love .If I hadn't known Sophia before ,I wouldn't even realise Patrick was abusive. Sophia always had burn marks and bruises on her body. Poor child. Her parents and I were close ,they died when Ron was 15 and Sophia had just started her teens. That is all that I know ma'am .
Thankyou Mrs. Agatha. Alethea took her bag from over the table side , one of the fidgets bedazzled on to Alethea's bag fell down on the floor , Gemini carefully picked it up and then they left the place. They enquired about Sophia's family throughout the neighbourhood, why would a 17year old girl ,perfectionist and extravagant in academics suddenly die ,in her own house which the siblings protected .It was the last thing they had in the memory of their late parents.
I couldn't find much , Ms. A ,everyone in the neighbourhood is suspicious ,Sophia was killed by Patrick, her very own boyfriend. It's just that , when we enquired in Sophia's school ,everyone had the same reply, just different wording. Patrick and Sophia were a great couple. They hardly ever fought with each other. Sophia was a prodigy in studies but Patrick wasn't as bright as her, they both wrote letters to each other .Everyone was jealous of their teen love.
I had called Patrick's family, apparently they had no clue about their son dating Sophia. I asked them if they knew about Ron. They went silent for a second, and replied Ron and Patrick were good friends but since last fall they behaved like sworn enemies .The school had planned a trip last fall and ever since Patrick came from that trip he hasn't uttered a word about Ron. So for now our suspicions are on Ron and Patrick, Ms. A added to Jonathan's statement. Its late , go home everyone. Lets stop here for today. Jonathan waved goodbye to everyone and left the room first, a hyperactive person ,solving cases here and then ,always just restless contradictory to Gemini who graduated from the same school as him. Gemini gently glanced over Alethea and signed her lets go, I'll wait for you outside . Alethea got up, as soon as she did though, Ms. A asked her, Alethea do you remember to do what I had told you .Alethea, brushed the question off ,she very well knew she forgot what was the task even was about ,she jus nodded and went out of the room .Ms. A let out a sigh and just said to herself ,these youngsters nowadays.
What was Ms. A talking about , Alethea ,anyways common lets go. Alethea wasn't in the brightest of her mind at that moment, the doses from last night hadn't worn off , the sleeping pills made her groggy but that was the only way she could be at peace. Gemini and Alethea went to the subway ,Gemini lived right across the street but she always dropped Althea off to the subway ,she said , it build bond .Alethea and Gemini casually talked about their hobbies, Gemini asked Alethea if she has been sick lately ,she looks worn off .Alethea nodded a no ,just work stress .Oh yeah , being a detective is the hardest job ,often we arent even going in the right direction.I think its like life , you cannot predict only calculate probalities, you know like the quote , “When the going gets tough the tough gets going” ,Alethea said to Gemini .Gemini excitedly said ,what a wonderful quote ALETHEA. You are truly wonderful as Ms. A had predicted , predictions . They both giggled.
Alethea got on the subway ,it was usually crowded today, she just stood there and waited for her stop. Pushing throw the crowds she got off somehow . The night was chilly ,the wind was exactly as the ……..Nevermind. The stars seem to carry a message ,every star carrying its own unique charm just like humans .You could study a single star for years or even even a group of it for years, both are equally fascinating .This was that kind of the wind where the peace lies and pain finally leaves the throat. What problem do I even have though ? Great couple workers who take special care of me , a good job ,what else.
Alethea opened the door to her house , she laid down on the bed, throwing her shoes away just like that . She lived alone ,there wasn't a necessity to be petite and even if there was Alethea wasn't the brightest star in becoming a neat freak. I wear clothes cause the society doesn't accept naked people. Alethea turned on the television and watched a anime film about a girl which ran away to fluffy world of all animals ,no humans and spent her life there. Woah ,I wish my life felt like that, she heard a knock ,she went to the door and opened it ,no one .She thought maybe she hallucinated and went back .Soon she felt asleep. The house still a mess and Alethea deep in her dreams with her office clothes.
Gemini came from a very loving family of three ,her mum ,dad and her. They all lived in harmony .Gemini went into the kitchen , her dad had made a mess of the kitchen trying to make a vegetable soup for Gemini ,her favourite dish .Soon the doorbell rang and Gemini's dad ran in full speed to welcome his wife. Hello mi amor !
They all sat at the dinner table, Gemini looked a little down, she was thinking about Alethea .Her parents asked ,what happened Gemini ,new case? Yeah ma and pa , there's this girl who was killed ,we arent sure yet. I dont know why ,its giving be bad vibes. Her dad said ,its fine dear, trust your guts and things will fall your way .Remember, Gemini you are a detective , try to analyze everything in detail ,you are the best my daughter. Thankyou mum.
After dinner, Gemini went to her room, she laid on the bed and there the thoughts started ,her overthinking, she was good but never the best .She always tried her best ,the silent expectations of her parents and herself were eating her ,every single night .She turned off the lights so her parents wouldn't worry and pretended to be fast asleep
