Chapter 1Two different worlds
A Taste of Destiny
The first rays of the morning sun crept through the cracked wooden window of a tiny house on the outskirts of Riverdale. The sound of roosters crowing echoed through the quiet neighborhood as Zira opened her eyes.
She stretched gently before turning to the small mattress beside hers.
"Mother... it's morning," she whispered softly.
Her mother, Zida, smiled weakly as she sat up.
"You're awake already? You never let the sun beat you."
Zira laughed.
"If I don't wake up early, who will prepare breakfast for my favorite woman?"
Zida shook her head with a smile.
"You and your sweet mouth."
The house was small, with old furniture and patched walls, but it was filled with warmth and love.
Zira walked into the tiny kitchen. Within minutes, the aroma of fried plantains, yam porridge, and freshly brewed tea filled the house.
"You cook like a five-star chef," Zida said proudly after tasting the food.
"I only learned by watching you," Zira replied.
After breakfast, mother and daughter carried baskets of vegetables to the local market. Life had never been easy, but they refused to give up.
As they walked, a neighbor called out.
"Morning, Zira! Whoever marries you will never go hungry."
Everyone laughed.
Zira simply smiled.
"I just enjoy cooking."
Deep inside, however, she dreamed of something more. She wondered what life was like beyond the crowded streets and struggling neighborhoods.
---
Across town stood the magnificent Ashford Mansion, surrounded by beautiful gardens, sparkling fountains, and expensive cars.
Inside the grand dining room, the Ashford family gathered for breakfast.
Edward Ashford, the respected businessman, folded his newspaper.
"Abbi, today's board meeting is important. Investors from overseas will be joining us."
"I've already prepared everything, Father," Abbi answered confidently.
His mother, Vivian, smiled proudly.
"My son never disappoints."
At the other end of the table, Aiden Ashford stole an extra pancake from Abbi's plate.
"You'll never grow up," Abbi teased.
"And you work too much," Aiden replied with a grin.
Suddenly, an elegant young woman entered the dining room.
"Good morning, everyone."
"Tira!" Vivian said happily. "Come and join us."
Tira had practically grown up in the mansion. She knew every hallway and every family tradition.
She greeted everyone politely before stealing a quiet glance at Abbi.
He looked as handsome as ever in his navy-blue suit.
Her heart skipped a beat.
One day... I'll tell him how I feel, she thought.
But fear always stopped her.
Edward smiled warmly.
"Your father called yesterday. He'll join us for dinner this weekend."
"That'll be lovely," Tira replied.
Watching them together, Vivian exchanged a knowing look with Edward.
They both believed Abbi and Tira would make the perfect couple someday.
Only Abbi seemed completely unaware.
---
Elsewhere in the mansion, Miranda Morgan adjusted her designer sunglasses before entering.
Unlike the others, she observed everything carefully.
She noticed how Tira looked at Abbi.
She smiled to herself.
"My niece deserves nothing less than the Ashford name."
She silently promised that no outsider would ever stand between Tira and the future she imagined for her.
---
Back at the market, business was slow.
By afternoon, dark clouds gathered overhead.
Suddenly, heavy rain poured from the sky.
People rushed for shelter.
In the confusion, Zida slipped on the wet ground.
"Mother!" Zira screamed.
She dropped everything and helped her mother sit up.
"I'm fine," Zida insisted, though pain filled her face.
Just then, a sleek black luxury car drove through the flooded road nearby.
The driver swerved to avoid a pothole.
Water splashed across the roadside...
...soaking Zira from head to toe.
She stood frozen, dripping wet as the expensive car came to an abrupt stop.
The back door slowly opened.
A tall man stepped out, dressed in an elegant black suit.
His polished shoes splashed into the muddy water as he walked toward her.
Their eyes met for the very first time.
Neither of them knew that this unexpected encounter would change both of their lives forever.
To be continued...
