A day
Branches swayed , leaves of mapple tree gently falling on the lead of wind touched the ground .
It was an ordinary evening in Middwill . Last flock if sparrows flew over the Nyle's convenience store . Customers entered and left . Street lights started to flicker .
On the roofdeck of store .
"You are upset ... did something happened?"
Raner approached Keya. She was sitting quiet in a corner beside the concrete water tank. Raner could hear her sobbing.
"It's bizarre. What would have happened to this poor girl," he murmured .
Keya turned her back. She was not willing to talk .
Raner sat quietly. He could not continue watching her sulking like that. He passed through water tank and brought a big ice cube. Further he covered it in Keya's scarf and kept it on her head. She stopped crying and next moment she seemed relieved.
"Today was aweful." She screamed . "I was punished for being late even though I was just helping a senior , and in front of a teacher." she slightly tilted while Raner stand behind her. "And after I arrived home." she continued. "I found my sister was hosting a funeral ," she paused an sighed , " yeah a funeral ..." Again she grew sadly angry . " why ? .... because my precious cat was assassinated by a truck monster ." Her eyes beamed with filled with tears. " She was my soulmate forever....and it was not enough that my mom delivered news from Ruvaan that she is marrying her boyfriend next week".
Raner who stood behind her, quietly pressed the ice block on her head. "Calm down, I am here , I will listen till the end ." He said , as he knew there was alot left .
She gazed lower on floor "Well, I have told you before that our parents had divorced a long time ago. Yet mom moved on . While my dad had swear he will live single forever. And I heared them talking Norman is going back to Quantek this month." Her eyes dropped and sad expression came again. "I feel like I will be abandoned." She sobbed quietly, holding her loose sleeves tightly . " He had always been here in Midwil with me , Valeris and Lionel have barely been home after they finished their highschool , but Normie stayed here from always . He didnot go to capital when he was getting a famous medical colledge , for me and coelon and dad , but now he is getting the opportunity again , I don't want to stop him ."
Raner softly hit the ice block and it suddenly melted all over her head. He gave a convincing smile. "Slow down."
She looked gleaming at him. "That's a lot to for me."
Raner sighed. "It is , indeed. But people do have to move in their live ." He dried her hair with gentle blow of air. And grabbed her by shoulder , standing behind her , he leaned .
" You know well , your parents , they were never the perfect match for each other .However Celine and Robert they are still together for you , when you are in need . Norman , he is a great brother , I understand , Trust me he will be calling you everyday . He stayed in middwill for too long , but world is a great place and when time comes all of us has to fill the position we are born for . So will you . Nobody is abandonig you . People we love and cherish , they never abandon us , we live close even if we are distant apart. Raner told her in a calm , soft voice .
Keya turned to Raner with a less sulking face " I just wanted , dad to be victor , he let mom go and raised us but he is still single and always busy worrying about us."
"Robert don't do what he will regret . He is already a victor , don't you think ? Raner patted her shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile .
Keya noded as it was the truth, she had grew up watching her father always joyful toward her .
Raner looked at her sharply in her eyes , then his tone shifted stern
"You let your bullies go because you don't want them to be expelled in their final year . But if it is ruining your peace you have to stand for it , it is worth rebelling. "
He changed his tone back and whined ."Though about Caramel, I will miss my poor cat." He whined .
" Lets do a prayer ceremony and curse the driver as much as you like. But first you ought to cheer up , Caramel will be in distress if he is watching you right now."
Keya lifted her eyes " you are right , I will not hold back ." She clenched her fist and looked radiantly .She added " I was infuriated because of those brats and it made me sulk over everything."
Raner chuckled and finally she chuckled back.
"You always hear what i dont want to say Raner"
Beep..
They were interrupted as her phone ranged.
"Dad must be looking for me." She murmured as she jumped from the wooden block where she was standing .
"If you ever feel upset , you can reach me any time, I am always here." Raner said as he drapped her scarf with his lips widened.
"Thank you, Raner." Keya giggled.
Raner escorted her till stairs as she waved at him and turned her back.
He watched her till she descended through stairs.
Raner was a ghost who did not know how he got stuck on roof of Nyle's convenience store . It had been years of his death but his soul did not go to after life . And one warm summer night he met Keya .
She was yet in middle school , but enough courageous and bold of her age .Mainly because she was raised by her single father Robert Nyle who was a retired military officer .
In an incident during war time bwtween Astros and their rival country Iperion , Robert lost his both legs. Now he lives on prosthetic legs and runs a convenience store in his home town Middwill.
Keya also had elder siblings , Norman was eldest , a skilled doctor , and Valeris , she was a young history proffessor living in Capital city walka with brother Lionel who was an intern doctor.And younger sister Coelon who was yet in kindergarten.
Robert had taken coelone andnkeya in his care after divorce . Valeris and Lionel always stayed at dorms and later shifted in walka while Celine would visit them often in holidays . She was a well known make up artist in a film studio. And living her dream life in Ruvan (financial capital of Astros) with her another family .
