Scarlett

I was getting everything for communion at church. I check over my outfit. I slip my headband into my hair. There's a knock on my door.

Dad: Scarlett? Almost ready?

Me: Yes sir! I'm grabbing my bible now.

I clutch my bible to my chest and open the door. My father was dressed in a nice dark blue suit. He was the pastor of our church.

Dad: There's my little angel.

I smile as he kisses my forehead. We start heading to the car. I get in the back seat and open my bible reading over my scripture I had prepared for teen church. It was my first time teaching.

Dad: Nervous.

Me: No father. God will be there to help me guide his people.

Dad: Your mother would be proud.

Me: She's with the lord now. No more suffering.

After losing my mother to breast cancer, I gave myself to the Lord praying over me to keep my loved ones safe. I was just a bit too late. I always beat myself up about it. We arrive to the church, and I get out the car. I follow behind my father as he leads me to a room with some chairs.

Dad: This will be your classroom. Is it ok?

Me: It's perfect dad.

He nods then walks out the room. I start rearranging the chairs. I set a flyer down in each chair. I write my name on the whiteboard. I look at the time. People would be showing up soon. Panic starts sinking in. I rush out the room and grab a glass of water and down it. I take a deep breath and walk back in the room. Some kids were already there. I look around. I was familiar with a few of them. I either use to babysit them or was currently babysitting them. A notice one guy that didn't look like a teen. I walk over and tap his shoulder.

Me: Excuse me?

He looked up at me through his glasses as he pushed them up. His light brown eyes which seemed to have specks of red in them drew me in.

Guy: Can I help you?

Me: Ah! Sorry but I think you're in the wrong room. This is for kids 12-17 only.

Guy: I already don't want to be here. I just planned on listening to music and studying.

Me: Unfortunately, I can't let you do that.

He stands up, hovering inches in front of my face. Suddenly, the lights in the room start flickering violently until they explode.

Me: Everyone out!

All the kids start freaking out and move out of the room.

Me: Everyone please go back to your parents.

I turn around and he wasn't there anymore. I didn't see him walk past me. I gather my things using my phone light. I see a figure at a quick glance. I flash the light in that direction and there was nothing there. I slowly scan the room with the light when something grabs my hair.

Me: Owww!

It felt like something licked my face.

Voice: So sweet. So ripe. Fucking perfect.

Me: Let me go! This is inappropriate! D--!

A hand covers my mouth. I feel hot breath on my neck. They inhale deeply. That voice wasn't human.

Voice: I will take pleasure in breaking your fragile soul. It's been a long time since I destroyed a pure soul before.

Suddenly, there's beating on the door. The hand was gone and it let go of my hair. I drop to my knees. I start hyperventilating. My dad rushes in the room.

Dad: Scarlett?! Are you ok?!

I couldn't stop shaking. He notices as I was unable to respond. He reaches into my bag and gives me my inhaler. He looks at his watch.

Dad: Come on, I'll take you home before service.

I shakily nod and he helps me stand up. He takes me back home. He gets me inside and sits me down.

Dad: Just try to relax dear.

Me: D-dad?

Dad: Yes?

Me: A-Are d-demons real?

Dad: They walk amongst us hiding in plain sight.

He kisses my forehead and leaves. I go upstairs to change. I start unzipping my dress.

Voice: Take it off slowly.

I turn around and scream. The was a guy sitting on my bed with skin as white as snow, black marks covering most of his skin, he had messy black hair and white horns. I rub my eyes, but he was still there. I run downstairs and into the kitchen. I start rummaging through the drawers.

Voice: Can't kill me pumpkin.

Me: D-Don't c-call me that! W-Who a-are y-you?!

Horned guy: Just a horny guy.

He starts laughing.

Horned guy: Get it? Horny guy. Guy with horns.

Me: Get out!

Horned guy: I'll make you a deal.

I finally find a butcher knife and point it at him. He raises his hands.

Horned guy: Tell me your name and I'll tell you mine.

Me: No! You're a demon!

Horned guy: Well yeah, I am. But I'm a hot demon.

He suddenly behind me and licks my shoulder. I quickly turn around with the knife, and he grabs my wrist with lightning speed pinning them to the counter.

Horned guy: Lekotis.

Me: What?

Horned guy: My name is Lekotis. You?

Me: S-Scarlett.

Lekotis: Well, I overstayed my welcome today, but I'll be seeing you later...Pumpkin butt.

Just like that he disappears. I start hyperventilating again. I start looking around for my asthma inhaler. I find it and shake it and take a puff, then another. What did I do to deserve this?
