Book 1 Title: The Warrior’s Bond

Chapter 1 Title: The Underground

The sign outside The Underground was impossible to miss. It hung beside the heavy black double doors on a polished slab of dark wood that gleamed under the streetlights, and right next to it was a large, framed portrait of the man who owned the club.

The portrait showed a tall, broad-shouldered man with dark, artfully tousled hair and sharp silver eyes that seemed to stare straight through the viewer. He was dressed in a black silk shirt, the top buttons undone, with a lazy, confident smirk on his lips. Below the portrait, in elegant blood-red script, were the words:

Ronan O’Brien – Owner

His word is final.

Kai stood in front of both the portrait and the sign for a long moment, reading everything carefully while the cool night air pressed against his skin and carried the faint scent of rain on pavement. His eyes moved slowly down the list of rules posted beneath the portrait.

The Underground – House Rules

- Consent is absolute, ongoing, and can be withdrawn at any time. Safe words must be respected immediately and without question.

- No feeding, biting, blood play, or any form of blood exchange is permitted without explicit, enthusiastic, and sober consent from all parties involved.

- Humans, supernaturals, alphas, betas, omegas, and all designations are welcome. Respect the natural differences in strength, biology, and power dynamics.

- No photography, recording devices, or any form of documentation is allowed inside the club. Privacy is mandatory.

- Private rooms, themed dungeons, and play spaces are available for rent. What happens inside those rooms stays inside those rooms.

- The house safe word is “Red.” When spoken, all activity must stop immediately. No exceptions.

- Management reserves the right to intervene in any scene or interaction. Ronan O’Brien’s word is final on all matters within these walls.

- No harming, marking, or claiming staff or other patrons without prior, clear negotiation and consent.

- Dress code after 10 p.m.: Fetish wear, formal attire, or club-appropriate clothing is required. Street clothes will be denied entry.

- Violations of these rules may result in immediate removal from the premises, permanent banning, or worse. We do not tolerate predators who ignore consent.

He finished reading, then pushed open the heavy doors.

Heat and sound hit him at once.

The air inside was warm and thick, heavy with the layered scents of expensive cologne, polished leather, sweat, and the faint sweet-metallic trace of blood. It clung to his skin and clothes the moment he stepped through the threshold. Low, throbbing bass vibrated up through the soles of his boots and settled deep in his chest, matching the slow, sensual rhythm of the music that filled the space. Golden light spilled from hidden fixtures, casting long, shifting shadows across black marble floors and deep crimson furnishings. The lighting was low enough to create intimacy, but bright enough to see every detail of what was happening on the main floor.

The furniture was dark, luxurious, and clearly chosen to encourage indulgence. Deep crimson velvet couches and wide chaises were arranged in loose clusters around low black marble tables. Some couches were long enough for multiple bodies to stretch out across them. Thick leather armchairs sat in shadowed corners, while tall black pillars wrapped in chains and soft red rope stood at regular intervals. In the center of the main floor, a large circular platform raised slightly off the ground held a wide, padded bench currently occupied by three people. Heavy velvet curtains hung from the ceiling in some areas, partially screening off small alcoves that still allowed glimpses of what was happening inside them.

Security was impossible to miss if you knew what to look for. Two large men stood just inside the entrance — one a vampire with pale skin and cold eyes, the other a broad-shouldered shifter whose presence alone made the air feel heavier. Both were dressed in sleek black suits that did nothing to hide the muscle underneath. They watched every person who entered with quiet, professional intensity. Further inside, more guards were positioned at regular intervals — some near the private rooms, others watching the main floor from the shadows. They didn’t hover, but their presence was a clear reminder that nothing got out of hand in Ronan O’Brien’s club.

And the bodies moved everywhere.

On one long velvet chaise, a woman in a tight black corset was straddling a man’s lap, her head thrown back as he sucked marks into her throat, her fingers tangled in his hair. On the raised platform, a tall, broad man had another bent over the padded bench, one hand fisted tightly in his hair while he moved against him in slow, deliberate thrusts, the sound of skin meeting skin barely audible beneath the music. Nearby, a vampire had a human pinned against one of the chained pillars, feeding slowly from his wrist while the human’s free hand stroked himself through his open trousers, soft gasps escaping his lips. Further in, two women had a man on his knees between them, one guiding his mouth with a firm grip on his hair while the other dragged her nails slowly down his back.

The golden light caught on sweat-slick skin, leather, and the occasional flash of fang. Moans, gasps, and the occasional sharp crack of impact wove through the heavy bass of the music. The warm, humid air carried the thick scent of arousal, leather, cologne, and blood.

Kai walked through it all with calm purpose, the heavy atmosphere pressing in around him.

Ronan O’Brien stood on the upper mezzanine, one hand resting on the railing as he surveyed his domain. The club was busy tonight — bodies moving, music pulsing, the usual mix of pleasure and power plays unfolding below. He was bored. He was *always* bored lately.

Then the doors opened.

Ronan’s gaze sharpened the moment the elf walked in.

He was small. Pretty. The kind of delicate-looking omega most people in this club would immediately try to approach. But that wasn’t what caught Ronan’s attention.

It was the way he moved.

The elf didn’t hesitate at the entrance like most newcomers did. He didn’t look around with wide eyes or nervous energy. He didn’t scan the room like he was looking for someone to fuck or be fucked by. He moved with calm, deliberate purpose — like he was working. His eyes swept across the main floor once, cool and assessing, before he started making his way toward the back.

Most people who came into The Underground were here to lose themselves. This one looked like he was here to find something.

That was rare.

Ronan’s lips curved into a slow, intrigued smile.

He pushed off the railing and descended the stairs, his eyes never leaving the green-haired omega cutting through the crowd like he belonged anywhere but here. People moved out of Ronan’s way without him having to say a word. By the time he reached the main floor, the elf had only taken a few steps.

Ronan came up behind him, close enough to catch the faint, clean scent of him beneath the heavy club air.

“Well, well. What do we have here?”

Kai glanced over his shoulder.

Ronan O’Brien stood there like the club had been built around him. He was tall — easily over six feet — with broad shoulders and a powerful, athletic build that filled out his black silk shirt in a way that looked deliberate rather than accidental. The top two buttons were undone, revealing a glimpse of smooth, pale skin and the sharp line of his collarbone. His dark hair was artfully tousled, falling across his forehead in a way that somehow managed to look both careless and expensive. High cheekbones, a strong jaw, and full lips completed the picture of someone who knew exactly how attractive he was. When he smiled — which he was doing now — the tips of his fangs flashed in the golden light, and his silver eyes gleamed with open, arrogant interest.

*Of course the owner would be the one to notice me first,* Kai thought. *This is going to complicate things.*

Ronan stepped in close — closer than was necessary — and let his fingers brush lightly along the outside of Kai’s wrist. His thumb traced one slow, deliberate circle over Kai’s pulse point, the touch warm and confident against cool skin.

He expected the omega’s heartbeat to jump.

It didn’t.

Ronan’s silver eyes flicked down for a brief second, feeling the steady, even rhythm beneath his thumb. No spike. No fear. No excitement. Just calm, measured beats — as if being touched by a stranger in the middle of a club like this was nothing worth reacting to.

*Interesting.*

His gaze moved upward, taking in more of the elf now that he was this close. The first thing that stood out was the hair — a deep, vivid green that somehow managed to look both striking and natural against the low golden lighting of the club. It was tied back, but a few strands had fallen loose around his face. Combined with the faint scars Ronan could now see up close — a thin pale line beneath one eye and another near his jaw — it gave the omega an unexpectedly sharp, memorable appearance.

Kai was dressed simply — black from head to toe, practical rather than seductive. The clothes fit well enough to move in, but they weren’t designed to draw attention or invite touch. Not the usual attire for someone walking into The Underground.

And then there was the pulse.

Still steady.

Ronan’s smirk deepened, genuine intrigue flickering behind his usual arrogance.

This wasn’t some pretty little omega who had wandered in looking for trouble or a good time. This one had seen things. Done things. And he wasn’t the least bit impressed by the vampire currently touching him.

That, more than anything, made Ronan want to keep pushing.

“An elf,” Ronan said, voice low and smooth over the music. “Walking into my club like you already know where you’re going.” He leaned in slightly, the warmth of his breath brushing against Kai’s ear, carrying the faint scent of expensive cologne and blood. “Either you’re very brave… or you’re looking for trouble. I’m hoping it’s the second one.”

Kai turned to face him fully. He didn’t step back.

*I don’t have time for this,* he thought, keeping his expression calm and professional.

“I’m not here to be charmed, O’Brien,” he replied evenly. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a folded photograph, holding it up between them. “I’m looking for this woman. Got a tip she might be dancing here. Have you seen her?”

Ronan’s smile widened. He reached out again, letting two fingers trail slowly along the edge of Kai’s jaw before letting his hand drop.

“Information’s expensive here, little elf,” he murmured, leaning in until Kai could feel the warmth of his breath against his ear. “But I’m feeling very generous tonight. Especially for someone as pretty as you.”

Kai met his gaze without blinking.

“If you know where she is, tell me. If you don’t, I’ll find someone who does.”

Ronan stared at him for a beat, clearly surprised by the lack of reaction. Then he laughed — low and delighted — and rested his hand lightly on Kai’s hip, giving it a small, possessive squeeze as he spoke.

“Oh,” he said, voice warm and amused, “you’re not going to make this easy at all, are you?”

Kai held his gaze, steady and matter-of-fact.

“No,” he answered simply “I’m not.”

Ronan’s smile turned sharp and hungry. His hand lingered on Kai’s hip for another second before he finally let it drop.

For a moment, he just looked at Kai, silver eyes gleaming with something between amusement and genuine interest.

“Alright then,” Ronan said, tilting his head. “Since you’re so determined to be difficult… come with me.”

He turned and started walking toward the back of the club without waiting for an answer, clearly expecting Kai to follow.

Kai slipped the photograph back into his jacket and followed, his expression calm but his thoughts quietly exasperated.

*This is already more trouble than it’s worth,* he thought as he moved through the crowd behind the tall vampire.

The deeper they went, the more the atmosphere shifted.

The main floor was loud and open, but as they moved toward the back, the music grew slightly muffled and the lighting dimmed further. They passed more velvet couches where people were openly tangled together — a man on his knees between another man’s spread thighs, head bobbing slowly while his partner’s hand rested possessively on the back of his neck. On another couch, a woman was bent over the armrest while her partner fucked her from behind, one hand fisted in her hair, the sharp sound of skin meeting skin cutting through the bass.

Security became more noticeable the further back they went. Another pair of guards stood near a heavy black curtain that separated the main floor from the private areas, both of them nodding respectfully at Ronan as they passed. One of them gave Kai a brief, assessing look before returning his attention to the crowd.

The air grew warmer and thicker the deeper they moved. The scent of sex, leather, sweat, and blood became stronger, clinging to everything. Kai could hear soft moans and gasps coming from behind some of the heavy velvet curtains they passed. Through a gap in one set of curtains, he caught a glimpse of a large private room where a woman was suspended in intricate red rope, her body arched while two people circled her slowly.

Ronan glanced over his shoulder, that arrogant smirk still firmly in place.

“Try to keep up, little elf,” he called over the music. “Wouldn’t want you getting lost in all this… distraction.”

Kai didn’t reply. He simply kept walking, eyes moving calmly over everything around him.

They passed another alcove where a vampire had a human pinned against the wall, feeding from his neck while the human’s hand worked between his own legs. The wet sound of sucking mixed with low, desperate moans. Further ahead, a set of heavy black doors marked “Private” stood at the end of the hallway, flanked by two more guards.

Ronan slowed slightly as they approached, then glanced back at Kai again with a wicked little smile.

“Last chance to change your mind, pretty thing,” he said, voice low and teasing. “Once we go through those doors, there’s no telling what you might see.”

Kai met his gaze evenly.

“Just show me where the dancers are.”

Ronan let out a low, amused laugh, the sound rich and warm.

“Bossy,” he murmured. “I like that.”

He pushed open one of the heavy black doors and stepped inside, holding it open for Kai with an exaggerated flourish.

Kai followed him through without hesitation.

This, he decided, was going to be a very long night.
