💌 Author’s Note

And finally… the story begins! ❤️Welcome to

A Jewel of Betrayal

! ✨I’m so excited to finally share this story with you.

This chapter introduces Naina and Rishi—and their unexpected reunion is only the beginning. 👀Why did Naina pretend not to know him? What happened between them in the past? And what will happen now that Rishi has returned to her life?

There are secrets, emotions, betrayals, and plenty of twists waiting ahead. 🖤I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I enjoyed writing it. Your love, support, and feedback mean a lot to me. ❤️

Let the story begin… ✨

The soft rays of the morning sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the luxurious penthouse, bathing the minimalist interiors in a warm golden glow.

Naina Mehrotra stood before the mirror, preparing herself for another demanding day.

At twenty-eight, Naina had achieved what many could only dream of. She was the founder and CEO of NOOR JEWELS, one of India’s most prestigious luxury jewellery houses.

Her journey had begun with nothing more than a deep passion for jewellery design. Years of relentless hard work, creativity, and unwavering determination had transformed that passion into a thriving business empire.

But success had come at a price.

It had changed her.

With the few people she trusted completely, Naina was warm, caring, and surprisingly easygoing. At work, however, she was an entirely different person. Cold. Arrogant. Ruthless.

She demanded perfection and had little patience for excuses.

Naina adjusted the diamond earrings adorning her ears and studied her reflection one final time.

“Perfect,” she murmured.

Picking up her designer handbag, she left the bedroom.

Her penthouse was located in Krishna Apartment, one of Jaipur’s most exclusive residential complexes. Her parents, Shirish and Divya Mehrotra, lived in a peaceful villa in Chandigarh, Punjab. Despite her punishing schedule, Naina always made time to visit them whenever possible.

She descended to the lobby, where her driver was already waiting beside a sleek black sedan.

“Good morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning.”

He opened the rear door for her. Naina slipped inside and settled comfortably against the leather seat.

“NOOR JEWELS headquarter.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

The car pulled away from the apartment complex and smoothly merged into the morning traffic.

During the journey, Naina opened her digital schedule on her tablet.

Today was going to be particularly hectic.

Several meetings and interviews were lined up, but one stood above the rest—the final interview for the position of Managing Director of NOOR JEWELS.

The company had been searching for the right corporate leader for quite some time. After several rounds of evaluation, the final candidates had been shortlisted.

The Board of Directors, with Naina’s close confidante Mishika Rawat among its prominent members, would conduct the final interviews.

Initially, Naina had planned to stay out of the selection process. She trusted Mishika and the board to make the right decision.

But that morning, something had changed.

Perhaps it was instinct.

Perhaps curiosity.

Whatever the reason, Naina had suddenly decided to attend.

She wanted to see the final candidate with her own eyes.

The moment Naina entered the NOOR JEWELS headquarter, she noticed an unusual level of activity.

Employees hurried through the sleek glass corridors. Assistants rushed from one department to another carrying stacks of files. Phones rang constantly at the reception desks, while executives stood in small groups discussing the upcoming interviews.

“Good morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning, ma’am.”

Naina acknowledged the greetings with brief, detached nods before heading straight toward her private elevator.

The doors opened immediately.

She stepped inside.

Moments later, a soft chime announced her arrival on the executive floor.

Her manager, Kritika Sharma, approached almost instantly, a clipboard tucked against her chest.

“Good morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning.” Naina continued walking. “What’s happening?”

“The board is preparing for the final interviews. Mishika ma’am has already arrived.”

“And the candidates?”

“The next candidate should be here shortly.”

Naina slowed for a moment.

Then she nodded.

“I’ll attend the interview.”

Kritika stopped walking.

“You will?”

“Yes.”

“Should I inform Mishika ma’am?”

“No.” Naina adjusted the strap of her handbag. “I’ll go myself.”

Without waiting for a response, she walked toward the main conference room.

Inside, Mishika Rawat sat at the center of the long mahogany table, surrounded by the other members of the Board of Directors.

The moment she saw Naina enter, a knowing smile spread across her face.

“Finally,” Mishika said. “The CEO has decided to join us.”

Naina gave her a cool, unimpressed look.

“Don’t start, Mishika.”

Mishika chuckled, completely unfazed by her friend’s sharp tone.

Naina took a seat at the opposite end of the table.

Instead of facing the empty chair reserved for the candidate, she deliberately turned her swivel chair toward the enormous glass window overlooking Jaipur.

Her back was now completely turned toward the interview table.

Mishika raised an eyebrow.

“You’re not going to participate?”

“No.”

“Then why are you here?”

“To observe.”

“Of course.”

Mishika shook her head with a faint smile before returning her attention to the documents in front of her.

Naina said nothing.

She simply stared through the glass at the city below.

A few minutes passed.

Then came a soft knock.

An assistant stepped inside.

“Ma’am, the next candidate has arrived.”

Mishika straightened in her chair.

“Send him in.”

The heavy frosted-glass door opened.

A man walked into the conference room.

He wore a perfectly tailored dark suit, his posture straight and composed. There was an effortless confidence in the way he carried himself—a quiet presence that immediately commanded attention without demanding it.

“Good morning.”

“Good morning, Mr. Arora.” Mishika gestured toward the chair opposite her. “Please, have a seat.”

The man sat down and adjusted his blazer.

Naina remained motionless.

She hadn't looked at him.

She hadn't even bothered to turn around.

Mishika opened the thick file containing his résumé.

“Mr. Rishi Arora.”

Naina’s fingers suddenly tightened around the armrest.

That name.

For one fleeting moment, something deep within her stirred.

A memory.

A voice.

A time she had buried so completely that she had convinced herself it no longer existed.

Her expression hardened.

It’s a common name.

She pushed the thought away.

Mishika began.

“Mr. Arora, why do you want to become the Managing Director of NOOR JEWELS?”

Rishi answered without hesitation.

“Because I believe NOOR JEWELS has enormous potential. It’s already one of the leading luxury jewellery houses in the country, but with the right international strategy, I believe it can become a globally recognized brand.”

Mishika nodded, visibly impressed.

“Interesting.”

She glanced at the next page.

“Suppose the company’s sales suddenly fall during a major quarter. What would your immediate course of action be?”

“I’d first identify the root cause behind the decline. Making sweeping decisions without understanding the actual operational or market problem could make the situation significantly worse.”

“And if your initial strategy fails?”

“I’d analyze why it failed, study the new data, adapt accordingly, and try again with a refined strategy.”

One of the senior board members nodded approvingly and made a note.

Mishika continued.

She questioned him about international expansion, financial management, leadership, employee relations, brand reputation, crisis management, and competition.

Rishi answered every question with remarkable composure.

He didn't hesitate.

He didn't stumble.

And despite the intense scrutiny of the board, he didn't appear nervous for even a moment.

Finally, Mishika placed his résumé on the table.

“I have one final question.”

Rishi looked directly at her.

“Go ahead.”

“Suppose the CEO completely disagrees with one of your major strategic decisions. What would you do?”

“I’d explain my reasoning and present the data supporting my position.”

“And if she still adamantly disagrees?”

“I’d respect her decision.”

“Even if you were absolutely certain that you were right?” Mishika pressed.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

A faint smile appeared on Rishi’s face.

“Because the CEO built this company from the ground up. I may be responsible for managing its day-to-day operations, but I shouldn’t forget whose vision made the company successful in the first place.”

Silence followed.

Mishika exchanged a meaningful glance with the other directors.

A brief discussion passed between them.

A few nods.

Then Mishika turned back toward Rishi, a bright smile appearing on her face.

“Mr. Arora…”

Rishi waited patiently.

“Congratulations.”

She extended her hand across the table.

“You’ve been selected as the new Managing Director of NOOR JEWELS.”

Rishi’s eyebrows lifted slightly.

Then a genuine smile broke across his face.

“Thank you. I appreciate the opportunity.”

Mishika shook his hand firmly.

“Welcome to NOOR JEWELS.”

Rishi released her hand.

Then his gaze shifted toward the woman who had remained silent throughout the entire interview.

He couldn't see her face.

Still, he turned toward her.

“I look forward to working with—”

Naina slowly turned her chair around.

Rishi froze.

The rest of the sentence died in his throat.

His professional smile disappeared.

His eyes widened.

For a moment, he simply stared.

It was her.

After all these years…

Her.

“Naina…?”

The name escaped his lips before he could stop it.

Naina stared back at him.

Their eyes met.

And suddenly, the room seemed to disappear.

Neither moved.

Neither spoke.

The silence between them was suffocating.

Mishika looked from Rishi to Naina, confusion spreading across her face.

“You two know each other?”

Naina’s expression remained unreadable.

Whatever she felt, she buried it beneath an icy mask.

“No.”

Rishi glanced at her.

For the briefest moment, something flickered in his eyes—hurt, surprise, and a recognition he could no longer deny.

Then he composed himself.

He turned back toward Mishika.

“No.”

Mishika raised an eyebrow.

“No?”

Rishi gave a small shrug, though the stiffness in his posture betrayed him.

“She just looks like a familiar face.”

Naina’s jaw tightened.

“A familiar face?” Mishika repeated, clearly unconvinced.

“Yes.” Rishi’s voice regained its smooth, professional tone. “Maybe I’ve seen her somewhere before.”

Naina abruptly picked up his file from the table and stood.

“Congratulations, Mr. Arora.”

Rishi looked up at her.

“Thank you, Ms. Mehrotra.”

Something about the way he said her surname made her eyes narrow.

So formal.

So distant.

As though they had never shared a past.

Naina turned toward the glass door.

“Welcome to NOOR JEWELS.”

Without another word, she walked out.

The door closed behind her.

Rishi continued staring at it.

Mishika folded her hands on the table and looked at him intently.

“Just a familiar face, Mr. Arora?”

Rishi slowly turned back toward her.

His professional composure had returned.

“That’s all.”

Mishika studied him for several seconds.

She could sense the tension in the room.

She knew there was something he wasn't telling her.

But it was his first day, and she decided not to push.

“Fine.”

Rishi gave her a polite smile.

“Thank you for the opportunity, Ms. Rawat.”

He gathered his personal file and headed toward the exit.

But just before stepping into the bustling corridor, he stopped.

His gaze drifted toward the closed executive door through which Naina had disappeared.

For the first time since entering the building, his composed expression cracked.

A complicated shadow crossed his face.

Memories he had buried long ago resurfaced with startling clarity.

Then, just as quickly, he concealed everything.

He straightened his shoulders and walked away.

Toward his new position.

Toward the company he had just joined.

And toward the woman he had never truly forgotten.
