WELCOME TO MY WORLD: BEFORE YOU BEGIN LETHAL INDIFFERENCE
Part 1: The Weight of Silence and the Mask of Shyness
Hello everyone, my dear readers. If you are here, it is probably because you too, at least once in your life, have felt completely out of place.
Get comfortable, grab a cup of coffee or tea, because before I let you sink into the pages of Lethal Indifference, we need to have an honest chat. One of those conversations you have late at night, when the room lights are dim and the masks we wear during the day finally fall to the floor.
For years, I was the quiet girl. The one sitting in the corner of the classroom, hoping only to go unnoticed. Since childhood, I was accompanied by an almost paralyzing shyness, a constant shadow whose origin I could never quite understand. Even today, as an adult woman, I look back and cannot give myself a rational explanation for why I felt so inadequate. It was as if the world around me spoke a high-volume language, while I communicated in a whisper that no one really cared to listen to.
As I grew up, during adolescence, something inside me began to crack and then change. A real internal revolution took place. But do you know what you do when you are used to being considered "the weak one"? You keep that revolution to yourself. I started showing others a new face—more social, adaptable, trying to fit in. Yet, my self-esteem was always an unstable seesaw: days when it touched the sky, days when it sank beneath my feet, and long periods of gray mediocrity.
The point is that society teaches you that to be accepted, you must please others. And pleasing others, very often, means letting yourself be walked all over in silence.
Part 2: The Lesson of College and the Lie of "Change"
There is a saying that goes: "A person is never the same the second time you meet them."
When I read it for the first time, I realized how painfully true it was. People change continuously. Sometimes for the better, but all too often—and this is where reality hurts—for the worse.
During my college years, I experienced firsthand what it means to see the word "unfortunately" attach itself to the changes in the people around me. I watched friends turn into arrogant strangers. I watched the stupidity and spitefulness of others feed on my sensitivity. How many times did I take offense? How many times did I go home with a lump in my throat and a burning chest because of poisonous words read or heard by chance? Far too many.
But do you know what the great illusion is? Believing that when others become cynical or arrogant, it is our fault or our responsibility. It isn't. Everyone answers for themselves. If someone chooses to become a worse version of themselves, it is not up to you to carry the weight of their poison.
I wasted a massive amount of precious time overthinking baseless cruelties. Ruminating on phrases said with the sole, miserable purpose of belittling me. Because the truth is this: those who provoke you enjoy seeing your reaction. Their victory lies not in hurting you, but in seeing you overwhelmed, in making you feel like a nobody. If you show that you are hurt, you have given them exactly what they wanted.
Part 3: The Birth of a Weapon — Lethal Indifference
At a certain point in my life, I said enough.
I realized that Reacting is not the same as Defending yourself. When you respond to a provocation with anger, you are still playing by your aggressor's rules. You are giving them importance. You are telling them that their judgment has the power to destroy your balance.
The true secret—the one that turned my life around for the better—is the sharpest weapon one can wield: silence and indifference.
When you stop responding, when you look at those who try to hurt you with a blank, cold, almost amused expression, something magic and terrible happens. Power shifts. Making others understand that their petty provocations have zero effect on you deprives them of the only thing they crave: your attention.
It is from this realization that Lethal Indifference was born.
I wanted to take all the pain, all the insecurities, and the shyness of the past to forge them into the armor of Elena, the protagonist of this book. Elena is not a perfect heroine. She is a girl who has hit the rock bottom of self-doubt, who believed she was a failure (mistakenly, because none of us truly are if we still have the strength to try again), and who ultimately understood the one big rule that truly matters: you must love yourself first.
If you love yourself, no criticism from others has the power to diminish you.
Part 4: What Awaits You in This Story and a Note for You
In Lethal Indifference, you will find much more than just a dark romance or a college love story.
You will find the taste of redemption. You will see what happens when the invisible girl stops being nice and decides to use indifference as a ruthless mirror against everyone around her. And you will meet Aiden, a male protagonist who embodies everything the old me would have feared, but whom the new Elena is ready to dismantle piece by piece.
It will be a journey filled with psychological tension, lingering stares that burn hotter than words, mistakes, passion, and stumbles. But above all, I hope this story can be for you what writing it was for me: a liberation.
If you have ever felt out of place, if you have ever isolated yourself, or if you have allowed the words of foolish people to define you, I want you to remember one thing as you read these pages: you must never allow anyone to make you feel like a nobody. Falling is part of the game, but trying again with a new sense of self-awareness is what will make you unstoppable.
