Amassed Vol. 2
An Anthology of Mostly Romantic, Sometimes Comical, and Unintentionally Spicy Short Stories
Vol. 2
By Kira Lorne
This anthology is a work of fiction. All characters, places, and events are entirely coincidental and any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is unintentional.
A Note Before You Dive In
Hi. It’s Kira.
If you found this book because you typed something suspiciously specific into a search bar and got exactly what you typed back as the title of a short story anthology, that was on purpose. The full title, in all its glory, is Amassed: An Anthology of Mostly Romantic, Sometimes Comical, and Unintentionally Spicy Short Stories Vol. 2. Every word of it. I could have called it something clean and marketable. I did not want to. Call it spite. Call it a bit I committed to. It just felt like the name that fit, and once a name fits, arguing with it is a waste of everyone’s time.
Quick housekeeping before the stories start: these are short stories because they came in under my own, entirely made up, word count cutoff for what counts as a “real” book. That’s it. That’s the whole system. Very scientific. Nothing here is connected to anything else in this collection, and none of it is connected to Volume 1 either, so read these in whatever order makes you happy. Skip around. Start in the middle. I won’t know.
A few notes on what you’re about to read.
The Heat Underneath
Boy meets girl. Girl turns out to be a great deal more than he was prepared to handle. I’m not going to say anything else about it, because half the fun is watching him figure that out in real time. This one is my favorite of the four in this book, and it also happens to be one of the very first things I wrote as Kira Lorne, back in 2021. It’s a little bit of a time capsule for me. I hope it holds up for you the way it still does for me.
Joanna and Mr. Make Up Sex Man
I put this one right after The Heat Underneath on purpose, because it’s almost the opposite of it in every way that matters. Our heroine here is Joanna, a cute, slightly derpy girl just trying to enjoy a stimulating coffee break, who ends up with a great deal more excitement than she planned for. This one is mostly romantic comedy, and Joanna is a little bit like all of us. She just swings for the fences more often than most of us would call smart.
Carolyne Was Late
This one is even older than The Heat Underneath. Honestly, I hadn’t fully found my writing voice yet when I wrote it, and I think that shows, in a way I’ve decided I like rather than hide. It’s a slow burn about a girl who doesn’t quite know who she is yet, and a guy who helps her find out. There’s something tender about revisiting the version of me that wrote this one. I hope you feel some of that too.
The Room Between
All I’m going to say is: best first day on the job, best job training, best conference of anyone’s professional life. That’s the whole pitch. No spoilers. Go find out why.
That’s the lineup. Four stories, four different eras of me, none of them talking to each other, all of them under one deliberately obnoxious title. Thank you for being the kind of reader who clicks on something called Amassed and just goes with it. That’s my favorite kind of reader.
