Summary

Lyra Fenngale was born into royalty as the daughter of King Renard Fenngale of the Fox Clans. Raised within the grand Oak Palace of Whisper Vale, capital of the Foxlands. Lyra was taught to embody both the grace and dignity of a princess and the strength and leadership of a knight. For most of her life, she knew only the comforts and traditions of royal life, alongside her older brother, Kealith, and her younger sister, Sylvia. Yet as Lyra grew into a young woman, her insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge would set her on a path that changed everything. In a world plagued by demons, from lowly goblins to mighty dragons. All serving under the Demon King, spreading fear and destruction across the lands. Among the Foxes, studying demons was strictly forbidden. But to Lyra, understanding them meant uncovering their weaknesses, and learning how to protect her people. As her nineteenth birthday approached, her secret studies of these forbidden arts were discovered. She was stripped of her title, and banished from Whisper Vale. Lyra lost everything she had ever known. But exile was not the end of her story. It was only the beginning. The beginning of a Legendary Crimson Fox.

PROLOGUE

In the beginning, the world was young, raw, and untamed. Ruled by instinct rather than reason. The foxes and wolves occasionally clashed in the evergreen forests and mountains along the north. Their wars were fought with claws, axes, spears, and bows. Honor was measured in scars and lineage. Victory in survival.

The elves watched from their hidden villages nestled deep in the forests, distant and silent. While humans, frail but clever, struggled to carve a place in the world. For centuries, these lands knew no peace, only balance born of wars. But eventually, chaos transformed into structure, instinct evolved into ambition.

As civilization grew, raids were replaced with trades, and growls were replaced with words, the first kingdoms rose. The first kingdom to unify was Blue Mountain, humans mastered order, law, and power. Early Blue Mountain settlers transformed harsh northern winds, wild forests, and farmland, into an empire, and settlements into cities of pride. The Fox Clans followed, they united under the green and gold banner of the Fenngale Clan of Whisper Vale, turning their wit and charm toward diplomacy and trade. Then the Wolf Tribes, united under the Timber Tribe of Bloodfang Hold. Each tribe was bound by an oath of honor, discipline, and strength. And lastly, Deep Slate, forged by former Blue Mountain citizens seeking refuge from war and or persecution, emerged as the youngest great nation. A nation built not on bloodlines but on skill, innovations, and labor. In Deep Slate, hard honest labor and innovations held more weight than a noble title.

Border skirmishes turned into wars of ideologies. Old traditions against new technologies, and instinct against innovation. But even amid rivalry, trade and curiosity flourished. The world, for the first time, began to move forward, together. As the light of civilization grew, so did the chance of major mistakes in innovations. In the year 410, in a small southern elf village, a small group of elves trying to make magical advancements made a major mistake. A rift from another dimension had been opened, bringing forward the Demon King and his corruption. A powerful evil force that consumed and rotted everything in its path. Demons such as dragons, ogres, ghouls, and goblins, poured forth, driven by their unseen King. Forests withered, lands rotted, the skies turned grey and cities burned.

For the first time in history, the four nations stood united in fear. The Fox Clans and Wolf Tribes bled in the front lines. Blue Mountain, while relatively safe, rushed to make counter demon units and weapons. Deep Slate, still a young nation, tried its most to avoid the demons but just like Blue Mountain, they too knew they would have to progress in technology to defeat the foreign invaders. The conflict would last for centuries. Generations have lived and died beneath the Demon King.

With unity came discovery, and with discovery came destruction. By the year 674, in Sulfur Hills, gunpowder was invented. And only a few years later, guns replaced the bow, and muskets barked where arrows once sang. Deep Slate’s factories and forges filled the skies with smoke, but yet, they would remain an elegant society. While Deep Slate refined steam and steel into tools of industry and tomorrow’s war. The Fox Clans and Wolf Tribes, still proud, struggled to match the tide of human progress.

Amid the smoke of war and the noise of innovation, a legendary story begins. In the year 805, in the heart and capital of the Foxlands a Fox-kin child was born, Lyra Fenngale the daughter of the Fox King, Renard Fenngale. She would live to see the world rise from ashes and bridge the age of sword and steam. She would prove that even in a world of iron and fire, the heart of the wild still beats.

Geography

Blue Mountain lies to the east, bordered by snowy mountains and coastal plains. Its harbors face the Great Eastern Sea. The Fox Clans occupy the west, a land made of ancient forests, rivers, and fertile plains. The Wolf Tribes dwell in the north, where the tundra meets the mountains. Deep Slate dominates the south, its stone cities carved into cliffs and valleys rich with ore. The Demon Domain, to the east of the Fox Clans and Wolf Tribes mainland in the region of Evergreen. There are five regions, Aurora to the far north, Evergreen to the north west, Blue Mountain to the north east, Deep Slate to the south west, and Iron to the south east.

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall

Early Winter/December, Mid Winter/January, Late Winter/February.

Early Spring/March, Mid Spring/April, Late Spring/May.

Early Summer/June, Mid Summer/July, Late Summer/August.

Early Fall/September, Mid Fall/October, Late Fall/November

Aurora

Aurora lies far north and has the lowest population out of the five regions. Aurora is currently under the banners of the Wolf Tribes and is home to the fortress city of Frostbite. The former capital of the Northern Tribes before they were unified but the city still holds her grace. Highland Pines is a massive city known for their annual winter holiday called Winters Fang. Frost Hollow is more of a beautiful and graceful village with the trading post Greystone nearby. From the forests to the tundras of Aurora, its lands are always icy cold but the lands are filled with a wide variety of wild animals and fish. The Aurora Channel divides Aurora from the mainland. At night is when Aurora comes to life with the aurora lights, elk bugles, and wolf howls. Historically, the Northern Wolf Tribes were independent as one colony, before uniting with the greater Wolf Tribes from the mainland.

Evergreen

To the northwest is Evergreen, the largest region with the second largest population and is the only region to be invaded by demons. It is home to the Foxes, Elves, and Wolves and many other kins. The northern part of Evergreen belongs to the Wolves and everything to the south belongs to the Foxes. Evergreen’s landscape consists of hills and mountains, fertile farming lands, green forest, rivers, tundras to the north, swamps to the south, and the Grand Whisper Lake. However, the demons have turned the land they conquered grey with the Demon King’s corruption. To the east of Evergreen is where the Fox River lay and to the south is the Stone River.

Evergreen is home to the current capital of the Wolf Tribes, Bloodhold Fang, a massive viking style city that extends to Wolf’s Island to the east. The Wolf Tribe Settlements of Paw, Trout Cove, and Long Howl are currently occupied by the demons. Evergreen is also home to the Fox capitol Whisper Vale, as well as The Grand Whisper Lake. A beautiful landmark, where Foxes believed that those who bathe in its water are to be blessed. The Foxlands is home to the four Deep Slate Fortresses, Fort Collins, Fort Ironclad, Fort Hellsberg, and Fort Hammerfall. The Fox settlements of Cod Cove, Roots, Salmon Cove, Sage Fields, and Timberline are currently under demon occupation.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain lies to the northeast and has the largest population. It’s the only region to be a single country, by the same name of Blue Mountain. Blue Mountain is full of vast fertile farm lands and forest, snowy forest and mountains to the north. Blue Mountain is home to the royal capital Aura, a massive elegant city made of marble floors and walls with golden statues and pride in the air. Farming lands have vast regions of farming cities and towns throughout Blue Mountain. From the wheat fields in Silver Meadow to the whiskey barrels in Whiskey. Blue Mountain has several different rivers that run through the region, The Fox River lies to the West, the Moss River to the south, and the Iron River to the southeast. Blue mountain has no demon occupation but they do deal with an occasional rogue dragon or ghoul.

Deep Slate

Deep Slate, with the lowest population, lies to the southwest and is a vast region. The northern part of Deep Slate is the only part of the region that has fertile farming lands because the majority of Deep Slates terrain is made up of rocky desert, hills, rocky mountains, and ravines. To the northwest lays the Stone River, to the North lays the Moss River, and to the east lays the Sulfur River. In Deep Slate there are two southern islands located across the Dragon’s Strait. The first island with its jagged peaks is Colten’s Islands and is a historic landmark. South of Colten’s Island is Ironclad, a coastal naval city built on a massive island. Ironclad is also home to the Deep Slate’s Naval Academy and Naval Armada. Deep Slate is also home to the country’s capitol, Black Vale. The northern part of Deep Slate is home to the Foxes and everything south is under the banner of Deep Slate.

Iron

To the southeast is the last region, Iron. The majority of Iron’s landscape is made up of dry mountains and valleys. In the southwest of Iron is where the city of Crimson Valley thrives but is the only area in Iron that has fertile soil. Then to the south, across the Sulfur Strait are two volcanic islands known as the southern islands, Ashgate and Sulfur Hills. Ashgate Island is under the banner of Deep Slate but is uninhabitable. The island is mainly used as a mining island for its valuable resources. Sulfur Hills is the second volcanic island but more tamed with its black sand beaches, coral filled waters, warm summers, and tropical landscapes and fruits. Sulfur Hills is the island known as heaven on earth. In the center of Iron is where Glowstone Peaks lies, Deep Slate’s second largest city, second to Black Vale. Glowstone Peaks was built on top of the Glow Mountains and was named after the Glow Stone ores that cover the mountain side, the heart of Deep Slate’s technological progress.

Demographics

Humans

Humans are restless, driven, and the architects of progress and chaos alike. Their adaptability allows them to thrive in nearly any climate, from the elegant marble cities of Blue Mountain to the soot stained steel fortresses of Deep Slate. They excel in innovation, trade, and warfare, but their ambition often outpaces their wisdom. Many of the world’s empires and revolutions began with human hands.

Fox-Kin

Known for their wit, artistry, and diplomacy, the Fox-Kin embody cunningness and creativity. Their fur can range from russet gold to pale silver, with their tails as symbols of lineage and honor. Fox-Kin are deeply spiritual, they value family and craft above conquest. Their homeland is the western forests of the Fox Clans and is a realm of harmony between nature and machine, where forges hum beside ancient trees.

Wolf-Kin

Fierce, proud, and united by a strict code of honor, the Wolf-Kin are a society whose existence revolves around bloodlines and religion. Their culture prizes strength, discipline, and loyalty. Each tribe has its own history, banner, and traditions, but all gather beneath the banner of the Wolf Tribes. The Wolf-Kin and Fox-Kin were sworn enemies but with centuries of shared hardship has tempered their enmity into wary respect.

Panther-Kin

Silent and sharp eyed, Panther-Kin are hunters, scouts, and guardians of the rocky highlands. Their bodies are lean and powerful, with exceptional night vision, stealth, and reflexes. Some Panther-Kin Tribes live near forests but many dwell among cliffs and elevated passes, protecting trade routes and hidden settlements. They prefer independence and honor, personal strength and skill. Many become elite soldiers, body guards, or explorers. While Panther-Kin are reserved with strangers, they are unwavering allies once trust is forged.

Horse-Kin

Tall, muscular, and tireless, Horse-Kins embodies speed and stamina. Whether pulling plows in the farmlands or serving in cavalry brigades, they are the backbone of many supply lines. Social dominance is often determined through racing and athletic contests, and many Horse-Kin commit themselves to lifelong physical training. They are known for being reliable, spirited, and hardworking, but can also be stubborn when commanded by those they do not respect. Their greatest joy is freedom to roam. Horse-Kin are unhappy if kept from running.

Other kins

There are many more types of kin. Bear-kins, Cow-kins, Deer-kins, Rabbit-kins, and more. But foxes, wolves, panthers, and horses are the most common. Kins are born from unions between magical elves and elegant mammals.

Elves

Elves are the oldest of the mortal kins, pre dating the humans by a millennia. While physically similar to humans, they are distinguished by their elongated ears, heightened senses, and deep spiritual connection to nature and magic. Elves age slowly and gracefully, where most Humans and Kins live 60 to 80 years on average, 100 or more if they have remarkable health, but the average Elf lives 300 to 500 years, with the rare reaching 700. Elves are divided into two primary heritages, the Light Elves and Dark Elves.

Dragon-Kin

Born only when a true dragon breeds with a human, never with an elf or kin. Dragon-kin are the closest mortal reflection of dragon power. Two true dragons will always result in a true dragon. A true dragon and a human will result in a dragon-kin. A dragon and elf or kin will result in no offspring. Their lifespans are extraordinary, they can live to 1,000 to 1,400 years average and the rarest bloodlines can reach to be above 1,800 years. They appear mostly human, but carry unmistakable dragonic traits like sharper canine teeth, slit pupils or gem bright eyes, small horn nubs, scales, or tail, heat resistant skin, and in rare case some Dragon-kin can develop wings later in their life. Dragon-kin can possess enhanced strength, speed, and reaction time, far beyond any mortal kin. They are naturally resistant to fire, poison, and magic attacks. Dragon-kin are very intelligent and have keen memories.

Dragon-kins are blessed with a dragons strength, but also cursed with a dragons temper. Dragon-kin are monitored closely by rulers and scholars, feared and revered in equal measure. Expected to either become a hero or a threat. Many Dragon-kin struggle with suppressed dragon instincts, immense expectations, and outliving countless generations of friends.

The Four Great Nations

Blue Mountain Codex

The Empire of Blue Mountain stands as one of the oldest and most enduring human civilizations known in the world. Nestled in the northeastern highlands with its sprawling marble cities, towering royal courts rising from high beds of marble, and river valleys where the mist never clears. The capital, Aura, gleams with the polished glory of an empire that prizes refinement and intellect above all else. Blue Mountain’s government operates as a monarchy. The current crown of Blue Mountain in our story is Emperor Alden Valerius IV, who rules with absolute power. The population is precisely divided into classes. The Emperor and the royal family at top. Followed by the nobility, Generals, Admirals, Dukes, Counts, and Barons. Then scholars, royal mages, and royal knights. Though not nobles, they often hold immense influence. Then merchants and artisans. Lastly commoners and servant. Laborers, farmers, and workers who sustain the empire.

Blue Mountain was founded nearly a thousand years ago, under the Valerius Dynasty. It began as a confederation of human city states before uniting under one crown. The early centuries were marked by conquest, expansion, and rigid social hierarchy. The Emperor, dukes, counts, barons, scholars, knights, merchants, and commoners, were each bound by unyielding law. Over time, the social hierarchy fostered order, prosperity, and nation of cultural superiority that defines Blue Mountain to this day.

Relations with neighboring countries were rarely peaceful. Blue Mountain’s human centric religion and philosophy led to centuries of conflict with Fox-kins and the demi-humans they viewed as lesser but useful. The infamous Kin Kidnappings, is where fox youths were kidnaped by wolves, and sold as servants to noble houses, remains as one of the empire’s greatest stains in history. After the Treaty of Silver Bark was signed, Blue Mountain shifted its power from military dominance to economic and scholarly supremacy becoming a realm of trade, alchemy, and science.

Major Cities

Aura: The enormous, massive, elegant capital of Blue Mountain. Home of the Valerius Royal family, and the Valerius royal castle. Known for it’s hundreds towering marble buildings, grand marble halls, and massive beautiful gardens. Countless royal libraries, royal military academies, the royal equestrian academy, and the royal academy of the magic and alchemy, where generations of mages and philosophers trained.

Crownspire: A neighboring metropolis, rivaling Aura in beauty and wealth. It is the center of trade and diplomacy. Home to many elegant parks, and more royal institutes of arts.

Ravens Crest: A North western city of tradition and pride, home to some of the empire’s most conservative nobles and the best military academies.

High Port: The empire’s northern coastal jewel and the largest shipyard in the world. Its galleons and frigates are the pride of Blue Mountain’s Navy.

Blue Mountain Army

The Blue Mountain Army uniform reflects the nation’s heritage. A long, deep blue military coat with bold red lapels and cuffs. Accented by two rows of polished brass buttons. Beneath the coat is a tan waistcoat with a matching high collared shirt and breeches, practical for marching and combat. High black riding boots, rugged enough for muddy campaigns and operating heavy siege gear. Soldiers often tie their hair back in a traditional queue knot, both a fashion of the era and a sign of discipline.

Specialized Units

Ranger Companies: Scouts who navigate the thick forests, rivers and mountains of the

kingdom’s territory. And can specialize in sabotaging the enemy from behind enemy lines.

Royal Knights: As the name suggest these are the few yet special forces mainly used a security for the Crown, royals and nobles. Not to be confused with standard Knights. But every Royal Knight was once a standard Knight, and a soldier before that.

Nemo: Blue Mountain’s secret intelligence service responsible for espionage and counter intelligence. To secure intel on both foreign battlefields, and internal national security, to spot and stop any rebellions or domestic terrorism. A unit that on paper never exists, it’s existence is kept secret by those involved.

Blue Mountain Navy

The Blue Mountain Navy uniform is crisp and unique for its era, clearly distinct from the Army’s uniform. A high collared white naval coat featuring gold trim on the shoulders and clean, straight lines. The coat of arms embroidered on the left chest. Dark navy blue trousers that contrast the white coat. The Navy’s uniform looks ceremonial but is functional for both the enlisted and officers serving aboard small sloops, medium frigates, or massive galleons. The Blue Mountain Navy is one of the most respected naval forces in the world, protecting trade, projecting power across distant coasts, and engaging in massive sea battles.

Specialized Units

Marines: Skilled in close quarters combat, and ship seizures. Mainly used for enforcing import and export inspections and used against pirates.

Artillery Crews: Specialists in heavy broadsides cannons and deck mounted swivel matchlock guns. They’re also trained in defending the ship against enemy boarding parties.

Culture

To live in Blue Mountain is to live by the nation’s creed, ‘In God we trust and follow, and as his children we have expectations.’ Latin is the official language of Blue Mountain, but the people of the farming lands speak a different dialect of Latin. The empire’s people value education, refinement, and obedience. Art and architecture, heroes and legends, horses, and old kings. Music, philosophy, and poetry are considered essential to a noble upbringing.

The Empire is of the Electus faith, who believe in a single god that made man in his image, creator of the heavens and earth. They believe only humans carry a soul. Despite the rigid order, Blue Mountain is a land of beauty and contradiction. With vast palaces, castles, and stone streets beside humble farms and where the values of equality are spoken but rarely practiced.

For centuries, Blue Mountain’s ambition has burned bright, sometimes as a beacon of civilization and other times as a fire that scorched its neighbors. Although Blue Mountain has outlawed slavery, discrimination toward demi-humans still persists, particularly in higher society. Yet in the lower society, especially farmers and sailors, often live in harmony with foxes, wolves, and other kin. Bound by shared labor and hardship

Deep Slate Codex

Deep Slate is a constitutional monarchy, ruled by King Darius Blackwell. Where his authority is balanced by the Citadel, a powerful body of generals, admirals, governors and senators. Though the King doesn’t wear gold and silk like the nobility of Blue Mountain or the Foxes. He wears a military uniform, he governs through respect rather than fear and is admired for his discipline and fairness.

The Kingdom of Deep Slate stands as the forge of human civilization. A nation built not on royal blood, but on soot, sweat, and steel. Its founding traces back centuries ago. Deep Slate was created by human settlers who fled Blue Mountain’s rigid hierarchy, persecution, or exiles. They settled amid the deep dark caves of the rocky ridges. It was there, down in the deep slate caves, that the nation’s name was born. A land rich in ores that would later power the nation’s uprising. With a few farmers, engineers and miners, Deep Slate grew from scattered working settlements into an industrious and prosperous kingdom.

By the year 501, the once individual settlements unified under one flag and constitution. Its cities echoed with the sounds of early inventions and the rhythmic clanging of forges. It was here that the Citadel established a new creed, ‘Merit over bloodline, progress over pride.’ Through centuries of innovation and warfare, Deep Slate was eventually transformed into the most advanced industrial power in the world. When the Demon Domain swallowed half the continent, it was Deep Slate’s soldiers, and technology that held the line.

Major Cities

Black Vale: The grand capital of the young nation, home of the Citadel, and the current king, King Darius Blackwell ll. A labyrinth of a city with massive towering black stone and steel buildings, early light bulb lit boulevards, courtyards, and grand elegant gardens. There’s an acre of lush gardens for every acre of industrial factories. The residential areas vary, from more traditional cabins, and small houses, surrounded by tall pines and cedar trees. To areas with far fewer trees, and more haulers, massive manors and large porches.

Glowstone Peaks: The heart and soul of Deep Slate’s innovations. It’s home to Deep slate’s best scientists and engineers. A rather large city sitting on a valley in the rocky mountain tops.

Ironclad: A massive coastal city on an Island. A naval fortress city, with large industrial shipyards producing the iron leviathans of Deep Slate’s Navy. Nearly every aspect of the city is built to accommodate the navy, rather then anything else.

Hammer Fall: Deep slate’s most industrial city, filled with factories producing Deep Slate’s armor, engines, cannons, and firearms. While Black Vale and Glowstone Peaks are making new ideas and innovations, Hammer Fall has the means to efficiently mass produce those ideas.

Sulfur Hills: A former mining island city, then the nations most popular tourist destination. It’s not a big city, but it’s a city of absolute beauty, with its warm weather, black sand shores, and clear blue waters filled with coral and tropical fish.

Deep Slate Army

Deep Slate’s Army uniform reflects traditional infantry attire, practical but still ceremonial enough to reflect national pride. A forest green military coat trimmed with gold. White high collared shirt with a loosely tied cravat, giving officers and enlisted men a polished but rugged appearance. Tan trousers, tougher and more flexible, suitable for riding, marching, and operating steam powered vehicles. Brass buttons and embroidered cuffs. The Deep Slate Army is the most powerful ground force, notable for integrating steam technology into its battle doctrine.

Infantry: Muskets and sharps rifles are still the standard, but trapdoor rifles that fire metallic cartridges remodeled from older muskets are slowly replacing them. Lever action repeaters and hand cankled gatling guns are the most recent in their armory, but in very few numbers.

Mechanicized Infantry: Well armed and trained soldiers in early armored reinforced vehicles powered by steam. From troop transport, artillery towing, and supply convoys.

Artillerymen: Conventional cannons still remain in use but are slowly becoming a relic and replaced by breech loading rifled cannons and early rocket systems.

Division 19: The nations secrecy and counter intelligence division, from highly trained and disciplined field operators, to elite scientists and engineers. From secret police units trained in urban, and close quarter combat to protect against terrorism. To units that specialize in espionage and counter intelligence. To black operations deep into enemy territories to conduct sabotages and execute assassinations. Always equipped with the best and latest technology. Division 19 is kept secret from the public.

Deep Slate Navy

Deep Slate’s sailors are regarded as resilient, highly trained, and technologically proficient, often more familiar with boilers than with sails. Deep Slate’s Navy uniform is darker, more structured, and more formal than that of the Army’s uniform. A charcoal black naval coat with steel gray trim and a double breasted front. Heavy black leather belt, often worn with reinforced gloves for shipyard work. A bi corn hat for officers, so their sailors can see officers even in thick fog. The overall look suggests discipline, night sea operations, and the harsh realities of iron and steam. Deep Slate’s Navy is the most technologically advanced. A good majority are still traditional ships such as wooden sail frigates, and galleons. To their new ironclad warships, steam driven, massive cannons in turrets, thick iron plated armor vessels capable of ramming wooden ships and shrugging off broadsides cannons.

Deep Slate Engineers

Deep Slate’s Engineers wear a distinctive uniform that sets them apart from both Army and Navy uniforms. A deep blue coat with double rows of brass buttons, standing collar, and simplified trimming, clean, purposeful, and professional. A thick, square buckle belt designed to carry tools rather than ammunition. Less ornate but immaculate, signaling precision and craftsmanship over ceremony.

Their uniform is designed as both a recognition of their military status and a functional work garment. Unlike most nations, Deep Slate treats its engineers not as civilian workers but as a full military branch, equal in honor and authority to the Army and Navy.

Engineers forge weapons, repair firearms, and craft specialized ammunition. Design and maintain steam engines, boilers, and ironclad machinery. Construct fortifications, bridges, rail lines, and siege machines. Operate mobile workshops to accompany armies and fleets. Many engineers would get jobs as blacksmiths, gunsmiths, steam wrights and early mechanical inventors. Engineers are regarded with deep respect, Engineers are often seen as the intellectual heart of Deep Slate’s military power.

Culture

Deep Slate’s people are mainly of the Electus faith. While most demi-humans are of the Elven faith, few are atheist. Slatish, a dialect of Latin, is the official language of Deep Slate. Deep Slate society prizes craftsmanship and intellect over lineage. A Deep slate engineer skilled in machinist or marksman can hold the same value or high influence as a noble or scholar in Blue Mountain. Each citizen in Deep Slate is expected to serve their country. If not through the military, then through a trade, craft, or research.

Unlike the rigid human hierarchy of Blue Mountain, Deep Slate does not encourage, but accepts diversity. Humans, foxes, wolves, elves, and other kins often seen to live and work side by side. Deep Slate’s national motto ‘Steel remembers the hammer and anvil, not titles’ defines its citizen’s unbreakable will. Their pride lies not in ancient bloodlines but in the sweat of their forges and the brilliance of their designs. Deep Slate’s alliance with the Foxlands, stands as one of the most enduring partnerships in the modern world. Born not out of conquest but out of shared survival. The Four Great Forts that guard the Fox-Demon border are still standing after decades.

Where other nations dream of perfection, Deep Slate dreams of progress. Its skies over the factories and assembly lines are dark with smoke and the fires that burn the smoke are those of hope. The belief that through labor and unity, mankind can rise above the demons. As General Leviticus Howitzer once said before the Citadel “We are not children of lords or nobles. We are the fathers of tomorrow, and tomorrow bows to those who build today.”

Wolf Tribes Codex

The Wolf tribes, stretches from the northern mountains in Aurora, across the channel, from rugged coastlines of Trout Cove and to the dense pine valleys around Blood fang Hold. These lands are cold, mountainous, and thick with forest and game year long. The nation’s borders touch the Foxland to the south, ancient rivals turned uneasy neighbors. At the start of our story, Hans Timber is the current Great Chieftain of the Wolf Tribes.

Major Settlements

Bloodfang Hold: The grand massive snow covered capital city of the Wolflands. A fortress of a city built by the timber’s serving as the nation’s capital. Home the great Timber guild, the finest swordsmiths, fishers, and swordsmen. Filled with tall warm homes, busy market squares, and even busier training courtyards.

Highland Pines: The northern most city of the Wolf Tribes, and home of the Winterfang Festival. With it’s true beauty at night, with is elegant aurora lights that dance in the night sky against falling snowflakes.

Frostbite: A frozen fishing city, located in Aurora across the channel. The city sustains half of the nations fish and whale oil, etc. It massive, with lots of harbors and piers, once being the capitol of the Frostbite tribe before unification.

Unlike humans, the wolves do not have a standard professional standing army, but rather an army made up of several smaller armies from different tribes. A few tribes specialize in war, and are called the war tribes. Only three of those tribes have a professional army, with standard issue gear, equipment, and training. Those being the Warfang Tribe, the Timber Tribe, and the Greystone Tribe. The remaining War tribes have armies made up of mercenaries, doctors and smiths whom have sometimes taken up arms, and even veterans from other wars.

Culture

The wolves are bound by tradition, pride, and an unspoken code older than any written law. Their culture prizes strength, not as domination but as endurance to protect the pack. Family and tribe ties define every aspect of life. Every wolf knows their lineage going back generations, ancestry is considered proof of honor. The pack is sacred, to betray the pack is a sin beyond redemption. Wolf-kin festivals are loud and primal, filled with drums, roaring chants, and shared mead beneath the moonlight. Where every hunt, victory, and death is remembered through song. The Winterfang festival, held each early winter in Highland Pines, serves as both holiday and sacred rite, reaffirming the unity of their kind through ceremony and challenge.

Religion flows naturally into daily life through the Elven faith, a faith centered on their elf and animal ancestral spirits. Elvish is the Official language of the Wolf tribes, but the northern wolves speak Norse, a dialect of Elvish. On one night during winterfang, the tribes gather to howl toward the heavens, calling and praising their fallen loved ones. Even their funerals are acts of beauty and ferocity, the corpse is laid upon a small boat, the corpse covered in a white fabric, pushed into the sea, then set to light by a flaming arrow. For wolves, strength is survival, loyalty is life, and to die with one’s pack is to live forever.

Fox Clans Codex

The Foxlands stretched across the vast western forests. A sea of ancient trees, emerald hills, and river valleys where sunlight filters through the leaves like stained glass. The Fox Clans once lived as scattered families centuries ago, but they were unified by the Fenngale Clan. Who established the Kingdom of the Foxes and the capital Whisper Vale.

The history of the Foxes is one of survival through cunningness rather than conquest. A little over a century before the start of our story, the Wolf-Fox War created scars on both sides after a few fox scouts accidentally crossed the northern border during a harsh winter while hunting for game. The wolves took it as a sign of aggression and attacked the foxes. The war lasted for four years and would end in a stalemate.

In that dark time, wolf raiders kidnapped young fox-kins and sold them to Blue Mountain nobles who saw them as sub-human, to be used as servants and curiosities. The fox kidnappings lasted for three years before the world noticed. At first the foxes retaliated by attacking wolf raiders and settlements, as well as suspending trade. Because of this, the southern country of Deep Slate held a meeting with the King and Citadel about the new development. They discussed how they depended on the foxes for food. “If the foxes fall, our mines will go hungry” one governor stated.

Deep Slate declared war on Blue Mountain and the Wolf Tribes, not for charity for the foxes but to secure Deep Slate’s future. Blue Mountain rejected their demands of signing any peace treaties. Only two battles between Blue Mountain and Deep Slate took place. Both times near the border, each time with Deep Slate landing a victory by a landslide. The Wolves never tried to fight as they knew Deep Slates forces would crush them. After the two battles Blue Mountain surrendered, days later so did the wolves. Later that year the Treaty of Silver Bark was signed in the year 695, ending the years of sorrow and bloodshed. The Treaty of Silver Bark was written by Deep Slate generals and signed by the Fox King, the Wolf Great Chieftain, and Blue Mountain generals.

Afterwards, to secure the peace and prepare for greater threats. Deep Slate, on good relations with the Fox Kingdom, forged a defensive pact. Which gave Deep Slate mineral rights to the valuable ores and stones found within a half mile radius along the Fox-Demon border in exchange for Deep Slate’s protection. Plus a small yet powerful Deep Slate musketeer regiment and garrison stationed near Whisper Vale. Leading to the construction of Four Great Forts along the borderlands, Fort Collins, Fort Ironclad, Fort Hammer Fall, and Fort Hellsberg. As symbols of unity, engineering, and protection. Each fort was a marble of Deep Slate engineering, built for mining ores, weapons testing range and standing as bulwarks against the encroaching demon for years.

Similar to the wolves, the foxes do not have a professional standing army, but rather an army made up of smaller armies. With only the Fenngale clan and Black Claw clan having standardized gear, uniforms and training for its troops, the rest focus on agriculture, trade, artisans, etc. Unlike the humans and wolves, foxes do not focus as much on war as they do on finding meaning, laughter and purpose.

Culture

Fox culture is built on harmony and adaptability. Family ties and clan loyalty outweigh ambition. Every fox is taught to value cunning over strength, mercy over pride. The Foxlands doesn’t have an official language written on parchment, but the most common tongue is Elvish, every fox law and song is written in Elvish. Fox-Kin society revolves around the Elven faith, the oldest religion in the land, started by elves and still practiced by elves and demi-humans alike. Temples and shrines across the Foxlands glow with blue white light during the New Light holiday. Where the Fox-kin honor their elf and animal ancestors and celebrate renewal beneath the early spring moon. Fox-Kin courtships are usually a private and quiet event. With oaths whispered to each other rather than before crowds. Festivals fill the ear with music, storytelling, and shared meals. Through tales and songs is how they keep memories alive. Even in peace, foxes never forget the Kin Kidnappings. Every youth is still taught archery and knife work, for as the old fox saying goes,’ better to be a warrior in a garden, then a gardener in a war’.

Demon Codex

The Demon King, the source of demons and corruption itself. His presence turned the air to ash and his footsteps left rot and corruption where life once lived. Within a single year, what was once a prosperous fox settlement known as Timberline turned into a wasteland of flame and bone. From the ruins of Timberline, the Demon King raised his dark kingdom with a fortress of molten stone and living iron.

The Hierarchy

The Demon domain was not chaos without order. A living hierarchy, bound together by the Demon King’s telepathic will. His mind, like a vast web, reaching far into the mind of every demon across his domaine. From the mightiest dragon to the lowest goblin. Each heartbeat, each movement, each strike of claw or flame was guided by his thoughts.

The Demon King

The Demon King is the absolute ruler of all demons. His will controls every creature of the Domain. To resist his will was impossible, his voice always in every demon’s mind. No living mortal has ever seen the Demon King in self.

Dragons

The Dragons are the demon generals and lords of the skies. They are ancient, intelligent, and cruel creatures. They ruled above the clouds, raining fire upon mortal armies and carrying the Demon King’s will across distant lands. Each Dragon would command entire legions of demons through psychic resonance. Yet, the King’s control was not perfect. Roughly one in every hundred and fifty dragons would resist his will and would turn rogue. Intelligent but destroyers that will attack demons and mortals alike until slain. Their existence was proof that even the Demon King’s power had its limits.

Ghouls

Ghouls are masters of strategy and dark magic. They act as field commanders beneath the Dragons, coordinating vast ground armies through the King’s telepathic link. A single ghoul could command thousands of lesser demons with flawless precision. Ghouls are masters of magic, especially dark magic. They are intelligent, manipulative, and utterly devoid of emotions. However ghouls have little to no physical strength or protection, a well placed shot from a musket or bow is enough to kill one.

Ogres

Ogres are the battering rams of the Demon Kingdom. Standing as tall as towers and muscles as dense as stone. They lacked the intelligence of ghouls but make up for it with their sheer brute force. In sieges, they take charge, tearing through fortifications and walls by hand. Although controlled by the Demon King, ogres are known to despise all other demons and especially ghouls in particular. They are a rare sight on the battlefield, they can usually be found near and within the Demon Domain. Ogres can shrug off many sword strikes, sharp arrows, and musket blows, usually they can only be killed by elite mages or light artillery cannons.

Vexes and Goblins

Vexes and goblins are an endless swarm that are small, agile, and violent. They are the pawns of the Demon King’s armies. Although lacking individual strength, they compensate through sheer numerical superiority, usually sent before the greater demons to harass, exhaust, and consume their enemies supplies and numbers. They are very small, never bigger than three feet. They are lightly armed, but they don’t bark, they bite. They travel and attack in packs and are by far the most common of demon. They are physically very weak, a grown man with decent strength can easily kill one with his bare hands alone. Vexes have bat like wings, but they can’t far nor fast. Goblins are slightly tougher than vexes however.

The Husk

Husks are the Demon King’s cruelest creation. Husks are mortals who have been resurrected through the Demon King’s corruption. Not through the Demon King himself, but the corruption from crimson ore or rotting demon corpses of ogres, ghouls, and dragons. Husks can be humans, foxes, elves, and wolves, their bodies become puppets of the Demon King. Their souls were long devoured, fragments of their memories still lingering, a glance, a twitch, a tear. They are used to shock troops. It’s very rare to turn into a husk, it usually only happens when a person gets corruption sickness.

The Nature of Corruption

The Demon King brought more than death, it brought corruption. A living force that spread through every corner of the world it touched. The ground turned gray and sterile, rivers blackened, and trees twisted into unnatural shapes. The corruption was carried through the air, blood, and crimson ore, devouring all it met. A few centuries later, Deep Slate miners discovered black rocks like coal, with pulsing red veins near lands occupied by the demons. They named it Crimson Ore, believing it to be the solidified essence of corruption, refined by centuries beneath the earth. A mineral both miraculous and malevolent, capable of powering entire cities or destroying them. When the ore had a low yield of corruption it could be safe, but if the ore had a high yield the intense corruption it emits could cause corruption poisoning and death.

His Forsaken Fate

Bargara4670: I have marked the ratings down because it was obviously originally written in a foreign language and translated into English. I hope that whoever edited the second half will go back and do the same to the first half. Having said that, this was a well-thought-out plot which kept me interested enough ...

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
