Introducing Candi P

The auditorium was bustling with the sounds of paper as Paris entered the dimly lit classroom. A wave of nerves bubbled in her stomach, but she pushed them back, allowing confidence to wash over her. She took a step forward.

You got this, boo.

Her red Peruvian bundles cascaded over her shoulders, catching the light in a dazzle. A thrill swept through her as her luscious curls bounced, framing her face as she walked. She smiled, eyes skimming the room.

Where is HE?

Her 22 mm mink eyelashes fluttered as she eyed each seat. A cold rage burned in her when she spotted a familiar blue and green fraternity jacket.

There he is…the fucking fraud. Scottie Jackson.

She paused, smoothing down the borrowed luxury clinging to her body. Lululemon from head to toe. Not hers, but convincing enough. She shifted her Chanel crossbody so the logo faced forward, letting it rest just right against her hip, then adjusted the Tiffany tennis bracelet at her wrist until it caught the light. Steven Madden platforms carried her forward with a soft, deliberate click.

I look and smell like money. He’ll notice me….I know it.

Scottie was angled toward another girl, his voice dipped low, smooth, confident. Still loud enough for her to catch every cheesy line. A flicker of irritation rose in her chest. She swallowed it. Then she slid into the seat beside him.

“Oh, hey Scottttiiie,” she sang, flashing a bright, effortless smile.

He turned at the sound of his name, grinning as he shamelessly eyed her up and down. Her stomach turned as his eyes lingered on her chest.

“What’s up, pretty lady? Do we know each other?” he paused, with a grin. “I hope so.”

Ugh... he smells like Axe Body Spray.

“Oh, nooo! Have you forgotten me already?” she pouted, crossing her arms, her diamonds catching the light. “You said you would remember me, love. But, I guess…” She let her words trail off in a tease, turning to reach inside her bag.

“Oooh no.. I’m sorry, pretty lady.” he shuffled in his seat.. “Come on, I think I remember now…The back-to-school bash, right?”

Paris smirked inwardly.

I knew he would act like he knew me.

“Yesssss! We talked about having class together this semester,” she said, leaning back, flipping a curl over her shoulder.

She felt his eyes on her for the remainder of class. As she dragged her highlighter across the syllabus, she licked her lips slowly, deliberately, feigning focus as she felt his eyes on her. She glanced up, their eyes held.

Ugh. I want to smack his little face, but girl… play the part.

She smiled shyly, lashes lowering before she let her gaze slip away. Under the desk, she shifted slightly, her leg brushing his, the touch soft and fleeting. Her attention drifted back to the professor. She lifted the highlighter to her lips and bit back a smirk.

He’s staring like a goofy.

She gathered her things calmly and slid her notebook into her bag. Adjusted the strap on her shoulder.

“Well, I hope to see you around campus,” she said casually. As she stood and turned to leave, she heard him shuffling behind her.

“Hey! Wait up,” He gently grabbed her hand and tucked a note into it. “I know this is kind of old school, but don’t read this note until I’m out the door, okay? I don’t like getting my feelings hurt.” He flashed her a smile and dashed ahead of her. She paused as the other students continued to exit the classroom.

That went…perfectly.

She laughed as she read the note:

Candi Girl ♡ I know this class will be hard AF.

We should be study buddies.

If you’re free, please hit me up sometime. 555-715-5895.

Got him. She smirked, crumpling the note, stuffing it into her bag as she entered the main lobby of the Langley University Student Union.

“Paris!” an angry voice yelled from behind her.

She stopped, her cheeks flamed. She turned slowly to see her best friend and roommate, Skyye, standing with her hands on her hips, her pretty face twisted in a frown.

“Mmmhmm... yeah! Surprised to see me, heaux? Well, I got your class schedule,” Skyye said, waving the printed paper at her.

Paris sighed, annoyed. She carefully timed her movements around the house and campus to avoid Skyye for the last few days.

“Don’t start tripping on me,” Paris started, but was quickly cut off.

“Tripping? Girl, where in the FUCK have you been?” Skyye barked, green eyes sharp and blazing. “I’ve been worried about you, and what’s up with this red hair...? And wait… are those lashes? Ohh okay, I see you’ve been diggin’ in my closet, too... But where have you been!?”

“Skyye… just chill. You’re making a scene,” Paris snapped, fidgeting a bit. ”Can we go outside and talk? Or something!”

Skyye grabbed Paris’s hand and pulled her toward the nearest bathroom, yanking the door closed. Crossing her arms, she gave her friend a blank stare.

“Okay, let’s talk. I see you must be on your “Hot Girl” shit or “Glam era” or something, but can you explain why you have been avoiding me?” Skyye demanded, her green eyes lowered, drilling into her.

“Well, I…” Paris paused.

“You what? Cut the bullshit, Paris. What’s up with you?” Skyye’s face was twisted in confusion. “You better not be selling pussy or no wild shit like that!”

“Bitch, what!! Don’t try me,” Paris laughed, then sighed, “ Skyye… I want to switch things up a bit this semester. I have been busy getting my hair done and shit. I did not want to hear your mouth. You know how you act. Just like this…”

“So, you didn’t want me to help you? Damn, ” Skyye crossed her arms. "You do too much! I didn’t feel like dealing with your bossy ass! Plus, I have this new thing I’m trying. I want you to call me Candi P. on the yard, okay?”

“Candi P. ? I knew you was selling coochie,” Skyye shook her head, raising her hands in exasperation.

“Bitch! Would you stop saying that shit?” Paris laughed. “Look, I’m just trying a little ‘rebrand’, especially after last year…” Paris’s voice softened, but she continued. “I just want to switch it up a little bit, you know?”

“Okay. Just…next time text me back or keep your location on. I dont have time to be tracking you down, heaux.”

“Bitch! I did text you back, and I know you ain’t bugging about my location. I never say shit when you turn yours off to go on your little ‘adventures’ and shit,” Paris rolled her eyes, pulling out her phone to show the responses.

“Well, you didn’t answer my calls, heaux!”

“Ugh! Will you please stop blowing this shit up?” Paris laughed, shaking her head at the nonsense. “It’s the middle of the day… You’ve got me trapped in the bathroom. I’m good. Is you cool? How about you worry about yourself? Let’s get the fuck out of here!”

“Okay, okay, but let me put a little lip gloss on,” Skyye pushed past her to look in the mirror. Paris joined her, admiring their reflections.

Damn..we look good…

Paris fixed a curl, moving it into place.

“Why are you so worried about me? Where are your little playthings? Camille and Kenadi? I know they are somewhere on campus looking foolish,” she said, side-eyeing her friend.

Skyye smirked, dabbing gloss on her lips.

“Girl,” She popped the cap closed and turned, opening the door. “My baby dolls do what I tell them. My honey, Ken, should be right where I left her. I don’t play that shit.”

Her voice dripped with confidence, even as her bright emerald eyes gave the slightest quiver. Her locs, glossy and midnight-dark, swung behind her e as they walked down the corridor. They rounded the corner, and sure enough, Kenadi stood there, phone in hand, waiting patiently.

Paris arched a brow, biting back a laugh. “Mm-hmm. There’s one of your little baby dolls waiting like a fool.”

Skyye mouthed, ’I told you so', as she walked away with a grin and headed to class, holding hands with Kenadi.

Paris rolled her eyes and headed to the Windsor Science building for her next class.

Okay, ‘Candi P.’ … Let the games begin.

Nearing the building, she paused, grabbing the crumpled note from her bag before typing a quick text message:
