Before the Eclipse
Three weeks before the Lust Eclipse, Lira Voss was just another ordinary woman trying to survive in New Elysium.
She lived in a small, cheap apartment on the edge of the industrial district. The walls were thin, the water pressure was weak, and the city lights outside her window always looked slightly dirty. Every night she came home from her day job at a dull office, kicked off her shoes, and sat on the edge of her bed feeling the same empty ache between her legs that never fully went away.
Lira had always been beautiful. Even before the marks, men stared at her. Long black hair, full breasts, narrow waist, and hips that moved with a natural sensuality she never fully understood. But beauty never made her feel powerful. It only made her feel watched.
She had no family left. Or at least, that was what she told herself.
Thirteen years ago, when she was only ten years old, men in black suits had taken her older sister. Lira still remembered the screaming, the way Raven had fought, and the cold voice that told her parents their eldest daughter was “gifted.” After that night, their parents never spoke of Raven again. Two years later, both of them died in what the police called an “accident.”
Lira grew up alone.
She learned how to smile when people expected her to smile. She learned how to stay quiet when people wanted her silence. And somewhere along the way, she learned that sex was the only time she felt truly awake.
Most of her relationships ended the same way. Men would fuck her, tell her she was “the best they ever had,” and then slowly pull away when they realized she never seemed fully satisfied. Lira always needed more. Harder. Deeper. Longer. Something inside her always remained hungry.
One rainy evening, after another failed date, she walked into a high-end nightclub called Velvet Abyss just to get out of the weather. The place was expensive, dark, and full of powerful people. She only meant to stay for one drink.
Damien Cross noticed her almost immediately.
He was leaning against the bar, watching the floor with the calm eyes of a man who owned everything he looked at. When he walked over and offered her a drink, Lira almost refused. Almost.
Instead, she accepted.
They talked for nearly two hours that night. Damien never tried to touch her. He only asked quiet, careful questions. Where she worked. What she wanted. Why she looked like she was always searching for something she couldn’t name.
By the end of the night, he offered her a job as a hostess at the club.
“You don’t belong in an office,” he said simply. “You’re wasted there.”
Lira took the job the next day.
Working at Velvet Abyss changed something in her. She started dressing differently. Walking differently. The way men looked at her no longer made her uncomfortable. It made her curious. Sometimes she would go home after a long shift and touch herself for hours, chasing an orgasm that never felt complete.
In the days leading up to the Eclipse, the feeling grew stronger.
She started having strange dreams — dreams of red moons, glowing marks, and a hunger so deep it felt like it would swallow her whole. She woke up more than once with her fingers already buried inside herself, panting and dripping.
On the night the Lust Eclipse finally began, Lira was alone in her apartment again. The red moon rose slowly outside her window. The air felt thick. Her body felt too hot.
She lay on her bed, pulled her underwear aside, and started touching herself the way she always did when the loneliness became too much.
She had no idea that this time, something inside her was about to wake up.
She had no idea that the empty, hungry place she had carried her entire life was about to become real.
And she had no idea that the man who had given her a job at Velvet Abyss already suspected what she was becoming.
