prologue.
Fairy’s Fair Revenge
They called her a fairy.
Lumi was only nineteen. She was soft, innocent, and frightened of almost everything. Her skin was delicate and pale, her body too thin, and her eyes always carried the fear she tried so desperately to hide. She never fought back. Never complained. Whenever the world hurt her, Lumi simply endured it—and cried when no one was watching.
But the world had never been kind to her.
The Darryn family had married Lumi to their only son, Larry Darryn, for one reason: power. Her father’s wealth, connections, and business influence could help their family rise even higher. From the very beginning, they never truly saw Lumi as Larry’s wife. She was an investment. A useful connection.
And when her father’s business collapsed and his wealth disappeared, Lumi became useless.
Now the Darryn family had no reason to pretend anymore. The girl who had once entered their home as a bride was treated worse than a servant. They used her, blamed her, humiliated her, and destroyed her piece by piece.
And Lumi said nothing.
Her innocence was slowly crushed beneath everything they did to her. But she remained silent. Because what could a nineteen-year-old girl who had nothing left possibly do?
Then Shyna entered her life.
Shyna, the only daughter of one of the most powerful families, had everything Lumi had lost and everything most people could only dream of. She had money, beauty, a powerful name, respect, and power.
At twenty-four, Shyna had already built an impressive position for herself, but being powerful was never enough. She wanted to be at the top.
So when the Darryn family offered her a marriage with Larry, Shyna accepted. Not for love. Not because she cared about Larry. She accepted because the marriage could benefit her business ambitions.
For Shyna, everything was a transaction.
But Shyna had a secret life that nobody in the Darryn family knew about. A life completely opposite to the elegant daughter everyone admired.
They knew her as Shyna.
The world knew her as Nyx.
A ruthless, highly skilled assassin who followed her own rules and answered to no one. She had secrets no one could uncover, methods no one could predict, and a talent for killing that made her terrifyingly perfect at what she did.
And the strangest part?
She didn’t need to be an assassin. She wasn’t desperate for money. She wasn’t forced into it. She simply enjoyed it.
For someone who already had everything, being Nyx was entertainment. A hobby.
Then Shyna arrived at the Darryn household.
She wasn’t expecting anything. She simply wanted to meet the family connected to her future marriage.
But the first person she noticed wasn’t Larry.
It was a girl standing quietly in the house.
A little too skinny. A little too pale. Her soft skin couldn’t hide the bruises covering it. And she was trembling.
Shyna stared at her.
The girl immediately lowered her eyes. She looked like she was afraid even to breathe.
Shyna’s expression didn’t change.
Her first thought was simple.
Poor thing. So weak.
She hated weak people. People who couldn’t protect themselves. People who trembled when someone raised their voice. People who allowed others to walk all over them.
“I just hate weak people like her.”
Shyna had no idea that the trembling girl standing in front of her was Lumi. Larry Darryn’s wife. The wife his family had already discarded. The girl they had broken because they thought she was powerless.
And Lumi had no idea that the beautiful woman standing before her was Nyx. The assassin who never blinked before taking a life.
Two women.
One is too soft and weak to fight back against the world, while the other is powerful enough to destroy the world for her own gain.
They are complete opposites.
So how will their lives become intertwined?
