Chapter 1- The Night Everything Changed
Ethan had never been a lucky man.
He wasn't rich.
He wasn't talented.
He didn't come from a powerful family.
He was just an ordinary young man trying to make a living in a city where everything seemed to cost more than he could afford.
But none of that mattered to him.
Not anymore.
Because the person he loved was sick.
Very sick.
Ethan sat quietly in the hospital corridor, staring at the white wall across from him.
The lights above his head were painfully bright.
His hands were tightly clasped together, but they couldn't stop trembling.
A doctor had just walked away after giving him the same answer he had heard too many times.
There was treatment.
But there was no guarantee.
And even that treatment was far beyond what Ethan could afford.
He had already borrowed money from everyone he could think of.
He had sold almost everything that was worth anything.
His savings were gone.
His credit cards were nearly maxed out.
And yet it still wasn't enough.
Ethan lowered his head.
Through the glass window of the hospital room, he could see her lying quietly on the bed.
Mia.
His girlfriend.
The person he had promised to stay beside no matter what happened.
She noticed him looking and gave him a small smile.
Even now, she was still trying to comfort him.
That smile hurt more than anything.
Ethan forced himself to smile back.
He raised his hand and waved.
Mia waved back.
Neither of them said anything.
There was nothing left to say.
On the way home that night, Ethan walked alone through the quiet streets.
The city was full of lights.
Restaurants were still open.
People were laughing.
Cars passed by.
Somewhere, people were celebrating birthdays, weddings, promotions and all kinds of ordinary happiness.
Ethan envied them.
He wanted an ordinary life too.
He wanted to complain about rent.
He wanted to argue with Mia over what to eat for dinner.
He wanted to plan a vacation they might never take.
He wanted to grow old with her.
Was that really too much to ask?
When Ethan returned to his tiny apartment, he didn't turn on the lights.
He simply sat on the edge of his bed.
His phone was still showing his bank balance.
It was almost nothing.
He stared at the number for a long time.
Then he closed his eyes.
"I'll find a way."
His voice was barely a whisper.
"I have to."
He lay down.
Exhaustion quickly dragged him into sleep.
Ethan opened his eyes.
He was standing in a strange room.
He frowned.
This wasn't his apartment.
The room was enormous, with dark wooden floors and walls covered in unfamiliar paintings.
A large window stood at the far end of the room.
Beyond it was nothing but darkness.
"Ethan."
A voice suddenly came from behind him.
He turned around.
Nobody was there.
"Ethan..."
The voice came again.
It sounded strangely familiar.
He took a step forward.
Then another.
Suddenly, the entire room fell silent.
A faint blue light appeared in front of him.
A transparent screen slowly formed in midair.
Ethan stared at it.
The first line appeared.
[Unknown energy detected.]
His expression changed.
Another line appeared.
[Dream System initializing...]
Ethan froze.
"What?"
The numbers began to rise.
[1%...]
[27%...]
[64%...]
[99%...]
Then—
[100%.]
The blue screen flashed.
[Dream System successfully awakened.]
Ethan stared at the message.
For some reason, his heart began beating faster.
A second screen appeared.
[Host confirmed.]
[Welcome, Ethan.]
Then came the message that would change his life forever.
[Ability unlocked: Dream Manifestation.]
[You can bring objects from your dreams into reality.]
Ethan didn't move.
He simply stared at those words.
Bring objects from dreams into reality?
It sounded ridiculous.
Impossible.
Yet somewhere deep inside him, a strange feeling told him that this wasn't a joke.
Another line appeared.
[Current Dream Level: 1]
[Manifestation Limit: 1 object.]
[Current Reality Limit: Common.]
Ethan's breathing became heavier.
He didn't know what any of it meant.
But one thought suddenly appeared in his mind.
A thought so simple that it almost made him laugh.
If this was real...
Then maybe—
Just maybe—
He could save Mia.
The moment he thought her name, the room began to shake.
The blue screen flickered.
The darkness outside the window seemed to swallow everything.
And the last message appeared before his vision went completely black.
[Your first dream begins tonight.]
