The star weaver

People think that stars are just cold and lifeless stones shining in the sky at night.

They are mistaken. Every single star shining in the vast and dark space is actually the purest dream, the greatest hope, and the destiny itself inside a human living on Earth. As long as people dream, those stars burn brighter, but when they lose hope, they fade away. And those stars do not just hang in the sky on their own...

Right behind the clouds, far away from human eyes and telescopes, there was a massive kingdom with a silvery glow. This was the homeland of the Star Weavers.

Every night when the cities fell asleep, only one sound could be heard in this kingdom: the whisper of magical silver needles and the rustling sounds of weaving neon-colored silk threads.

Celeste was standing in front of a giant sky map in the tallest cloud tower of the kingdom. As her long, silvery hair moved, it scattered delicate stardust all around. Her eyes sparkled with a purple color, just like the depths of the sky. She was still a very young and inexperienced weaver. In her hand, she was holding an ancient, patterned silver needle that was almost twice the size of her body.

"Alright, Celeste, you can do this,” she whispered to herself.

“The Wise Weaver trusted me tonight. I just have to be careful.”

Right next to her feet, Pip, a magical cat whose body was as soft as a white cotton cloud and whose long tail glowed in neon-blue, was sleeping and purring. Every time Pip took a breath, tiny sparks spread around from his tail.

Celeste threaded a bright purple string into her needle and looked down from the tower window at the seemingly endless sea of stars. Her job was to weave the dreams of humans, which resembled one another, into constellations and transmit hope energy to the Earth. She gracefully glided her needle through the air and began connecting one star to another. Everything was going perfectly.

But suddenly, something frightening happened on the southern side of the sky map. A giant, golden, and highly important star began to tremble. The light around it was slowly darkening, as if fading away from within.

When she stepped closer to the map and looked, she saw the name of the star's owner: Cole.

He was a young boy living on Earth. Cole was experiencing such a profound sadness within himself that he had completely stopped dreaming, and as his heart darkened, that magnificent golden star in the sky was dying too. If that star went out completely, Cole would be doomed to lifelong despair.

“I must save him!” Celeste cried out in excitement.

She rushed forward in a hurry; but whether out of excitement or inexperience, she did not notice the neon threads tangled on the floor. Her foot suddenly tripped over a long purple string. Celeste lost her balance and fell forward. As she fell, that giant magical silver needle in her hand struck Cole's trembling golden star.

CRACK!

A huge spark broke off. Cole's star broke away from the sky and began to plunge downward at high speed. The worst part was that the silver needle, which Celeste protected more than her own life, also slipped from her hand and plunged into the darkness through the clouds, following the star.

“My needle! Cole's star!” Celeste screamed in horror and rushed to the edge of the window.

As she peered down, the edge of the cloud slipped. Celeste let out a shriek and began falling into the endless void, toward the world of humans. Right at that moment, the little cat Pip, startled awake by Celeste's scream, opened his eyes. Seeing his owner disappear through the clouds, the sweet cat lunged forward without hesitation, jumped out of the window, and glided through the air, landing inside Celeste's bag. The shining kingdom of the sky was being left behind. And ahead, a massive and cold human city shrouded in the darkness of the night, glowing with millions of artificial lights, came into view. Celeste and Pip were rapidly descending toward Planet Earth...

Celeste and Pip, the cloud kitten, were rolling down swiftly through the clouds. Colorful neon threads were shining in the sky like a comet. Celeste had closed her eyes tightly. The wind was blowing her silvery hair in the air.

"Piiip! Hold onto my bag!" - Celeste shouted.

The little kitten Pip was holding tightly onto the edges of the bag with his paws, and blue sparks were flying from his tail out of fear. Below, a modern, massive human city with millions of burning lights was getting closer and closer. This did not look at all like that quiet world Celeste used to watch from the sky tower; this place was noisy, a bit cold, and very large. PAAAHHH!

A loud and soft sound was heard. Celeste and Pip fell straight from the sky into the large, green-leaved plants and flowerpots on the roof of a multi-story building. Luckily, because cloud fairies are very light, nothing had happened to them. Celeste stood up, brushing the star dust off her clothes, and looked around. This was a wide balcony of a tall building.

"We... we are on Earth, Pip," – Celeste whispered.

Her eyes were wide with wonder. It was the first time she was touching human things. But the worst part was that her magical silver needle and Cole's golden star were nowhere to be seen nearby.

Suddenly, Pip whispered with fear and hid behind Celeste's leg. The balcony door slowly opened, and a young boy wearing a black hooded sweater came out. This was Cole. He had big headphones over his ears and was holding an old sketchbook in his hand. There was a deep sadness and unhappiness on Cole's face. He approached the edge of the balcony, looked toward the dark sky, and sighed deeply. His dreams were so faded that he hadn't even noticed his star in the sky was gone.

Celeste held her breath. Now, her only chance to regain her magic and return to the sky was to awaken the hope of dreaming again in this sad boy's heart.

Cole put his headphones around his neck and opened his sketchbook. He began to draw a dark, colorless city with a charcoal pencil. This hopelessness inside him was setting the surrounding dark mists into motion. As Celeste was slowly coming out from behind the plants to approach him, the little kitten Pip accidentally budged an empty flowerpot on the ground.

THUD!

Cole instantly turned his head toward the sound.

"Who is there?" – he asked.

His voice was cold and suspicious.Celeste didn't have time to hide. Cole narrowed his eyes and looked at the strange girl among the plants. Celeste's silvery hair and purple eyes were shining, albeit faintly, in the darkness. Cole had never seen such a person in his life.

"Who... who are you? How did you get in here?" – Cole asked, taking a step back.

Celeste took a deep breath and stepped forward. "My name is Celeste. And I... I fell from the sky, Cole. To save your star."

Cole smiled bitterly and shook his head. "Fallen from the sky? A star? What kind of a foolish joke is this? There is no such thing as magic in the world, and stars are just rocks in space. Don't waste my time," – he said, closing his notebook, and wanted to go inside. He had long abandoned believing in magic.

Just at that moment, Pip came out from among the plants with his neon-blue tail glowing, approached Cole's foot, and purred sweetly. When the tiny blue lights coming out of Pip's tail spilled onto Cole's shoes, the boy froze in astonishment. He slowly knelt down on the ground and looked at the magical kitten.

"This... this can't be," – Cole whispered.

Celeste approached him and said: "When you stopped dreaming, your star in the sky went out, Cole. If you don't believe me and don't find those hidden colors inside you again, I will stay here forever, and your world will be completely plunged into darkness. Because the dark birds have already caught the scent of your faded star..."

Cole had forgotten to breathe as he knelt on the ground, looking at the neon-blue glowing tail of the magical kitten Pip. The light particles that touched the tips of his fingers dissolved into the air. He had never seen such a living creature in his life. Slowly raising his head, he looked at the silvery-haired, purple-eyed magical girl standing in front of him—Celeste. The petrified unhappiness inside him for years cracked for the very first time.

Suddenly, the sounds of cars coming from the street brought Cole back to reality. It was not a good idea at all for the neighbors or family members to see this strange girl.

"Quick, come inside," – Cole said, standing up and speaking in a low but hurried voice.

Opening the glass door of the balcony, he quickly let Celeste and the leaping Pip inside, then shut the door tightly and drew the curtains. Cole's room completely reflected his inner world: dark, charcoal-drawn city pictures on the walls, scattered pencils on the desk, and an old musical instrument.

Celeste looked around in wonder. Human objects, books, and the pictures on the wall were a completely new world to her. Pip, on the other hand, immediately jumped onto the desk and began sniffing the scattered pencils.

Cole crossed his arms and looked at Celeste: "Alright, now explain to me. Falling from the sky, stars... what does all this mean? Why should my star go out?"

Celeste took a deep breath and placed an empty sheet of paper on the desk in front of him. "When people dream, a great light is created in their hearts, Cole. We see that light from the sky as a star. You used to be an artist, maybe you wanted to color the world, didn't you? But when you lost your hope, your star began to fade. As I was trying to save it, I got caught in the threads and fell here together with my magical silver needle. If I cannot find the needle and you do not start dreaming again, the sky will never be the same."

Cole lowered his head. He looked at the drawings on the wall. Celeste was right; he hadn't used colors for a long time because he thought dreaming was meaningless.

As they were talking, the air in the room suddenly turned freezing cold. The light of the streetlamps behind the window weakened, and a strange, dark shadow fell.

Suddenly, Pip bristled his fur while standing on the desk. His neon-blue tail began to flash rapidly out of fear and tension, casting blue lights onto the walls of the room.

"SCREECH!"

The scratching sound of claws was heard against the window glass. Cole stepped back in fear. Behind the window, a massive, terrifying bird shadow made of dark mists, with eyes glowing red, was standing. This was the Shadow Bird!

"It is here!" – Celeste screamed. "It has caught the scent of the hopelessness of your fading star, Cole!"

The Shadow Bird beat its wings hard against the glass. Cracks formed in the window. With a bone-chilling fear, Cole rushed forward and stood in front of the heavy metal lamp on the desk, right before the window. He was terrified, but his instinct to protect Celeste and this tiny kitten had awakened within him.

"SHATTER!"

The glass broke completely, and a dark mist filled the room. The Shadow Bird flew inside, spinning around, and rushed straight toward Celeste. It wanted to extinguish the remaining magic light inside her. Celeste covered her face with her hands, but at that exact second, the little kitten Pip leapt into the air! Pip hissed all the neon-blue light energy from his tail like a giant wave onto the darkness of the bird.

As the blue light burned the mist, the Shadow Bird let out a painful shriek. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Cole swung the desk lamp toward the mist. Terrified by this two-sided strike, the Shadow Bird backed away and flew out of the window into the dark skies of the city, disappearing from sight.

A deep silence fell over the room. Everywhere was filled with glass shards and black smoke. Cole placed the lamp on the ground, his heart beating fast. He slowly looked at Celeste: "This... this is madness. But I believe you now."

As morning broke, Cole and Celeste cleaned up the broken glass shards in the room and the traces of black smoke left behind by the Shadow Bird. Now, the biggest problem facing them was to find the magical silver needle that had fallen from the sky. Time was running out; Celeste had only 30 hours left, or she would completely lose her inner glow, turn into an ordinary human, and the sky would be plunged into eternal darkness forever.

Cole spread a large city map over the desk. "If it fell from the sky toward here..." – Cole drew a long line on the map with a pencil, "considering the speed of the wind and the falling angle, that massive needle must have landed near the old, abandoned clock tower in the center of the city."

Celeste smiled in admiration: "You are like a detective, Cole!"

"I'm just thinking logically," – Cole said, pulling his hood over his head a bit shyly.

The plan was ready. To prevent anyone from seeing the magical kitten Pip, they tucked him into Cole's wide gym bag. Pip poked his nose out of a small hole in the bag and sniffed his surroundings with curiosity. Celeste, on the other hand, put on a black cap given to her by Cole to hide her silvery-glowing hair.

As they stepped out of the building and walked into the noisy, crowded streets full of people, Celeste looked at everything with wonder as if she were a child: rapidly passing cars, colorful shop windows, street vendors... Cole, on the other hand, was looking at the city for the first time in a long while not as a colorless prison, but as an arena for an adventure. The spark of imagination inside him was reigniting.

However, they did not know that the dark mists floating in the long shadows of the buildings were still following them. The Shadow Bird was watching for a secret opportunity to return...

They arrived in front of the abandoned clock tower, which soared in the center of the city, surrounded by ancient trees. The tower looked very old, and its door was locked with a large padlock. Looking up at the top of the tower, both of their eyes widened in amazement.

A bright, silvery object was stuck right in the center of the giant clock, between its hands. This was Celeste's silver needle! The needle was wedged with such force into the gears that it had completely stopped the massive clock's hands.

"It's there! My needle!" – Celeste rushed forward with excitement.

"Wait, be quiet for a moment," – Cole held her back by the arm. "The door is locked. But I know these places well." Cole walked around the side of the tower and forced open an old, dried wooden window. "We can enter from here."

They stepped into the dark, dusty interior of the tower. Inside, there were massive gears, rusted cogs, and old wooden stairs spiraling upward. Everywhere was so quiet, as if time had never visited this place.

They began climbing up toward the top. With every step, the wooden stairs creaked fearfully. Just as they reached the room at the very top of the tower where the clock mechanism was located, the large windows behind them slammed shut with a powerful force!

Dark mists began to pour in from the corners of the room. The Shadow Bird had moved faster than them and surrounded the area around the needle with an impenetrable wall of dark smoke. The bird's red eyes gleamed in the darkness, and it let out an angry shriek toward Celeste and Cole. To reach the needle, this dark trap had to be destroyed from within...

The room at the top of the clock tower was plunged into a freezing darkness. The black smoke spreading from the wings of the Shadow Bird enveloped Celeste's silver needle like an impenetrable wall. The bird's red, anger-filled eyes stared directly at Cole. Because this dark entity drew its strength precisely from the hopelessness and sadness inside Cole.

"Cole, I must run toward the needle! But this mist is burning me!" – Celeste screamed. The glow of her silvery hair was slowly fading in this thick darkness. Their time was running out.

PSSSSSST!

Pip the kitten leapt out of the gym bag. His neon-blue tail was bristled with anger. Leaping into the air, Pip sprayed waves of blue light into the dark mist. However, this time the Shadow Bird was stronger; with just a single strike of its wing, it smothered Pip's magical light and threw the tiny kitten toward the corner. Pip fell to the ground with a painful meow, the glow of his tail fading.

Cole looked around in fear and helplessness. He had no weapon in his hands. But when he saw Celeste's fading face and Pip lying on the ground, a strange anger, followed by a great desire to protect, rose within him. It was the first time in his life that he wasn't thinking of himself; he wanted to save others.

"I won't let you!"– Cole shouted.

He pulled his charcoal pencil and sketchbook out of his bag. He quickly began to draw a giant Sun shining with all its heart on the paper. As he drew the picture, the love for art and dreams that he had hidden inside for years ignited once again.

Something incredible happened: a real, dazzling golden light began to spread around from Cole's notebook! This was the energy of his reborn dreams. When the golden light shone inside the tower, the Shadow Bird let out a terrifying shriek. The wall of dark mist began to slowly melt and retreat before the golden light.

"Now, Celeste! Run!" – Cole shouted, holding the glowing notebook in his hand toward the bird.

Celeste did not miss the opportunity. She rushed forward, leaped nimbly over the rusted gears, and reached the exact center of the giant clock's hands. Reaching out her hands, she tightly grabbed the patterned body of the silver needle. Gathering all her strength, she pulled the needle out, completely tearing it away from the clock mechanism!

CLICK!

The moment the needle came out, the ancient clock, which had been stopped for years, began to work again with a great rumble. Tick-tock, tick-tock... Time was flowing in the city once more. With the needle set free, all the magical energy of the sky returned to Celeste's body. Her hair filled the dark room with a purple and silvery light.

Celeste quickly threaded the last neon string remaining in her bag through the needle in her hand. Floating the needle in the air, she tied the golden flood of light coming from Cole's notebook to that string. This was the last string of the sky—the moment where human imagination and fairy magic united.

Celeste threw the needle into the air and directed it toward the Shadow Bird. A massive web woven from the light coming out of the tip of the needle completely surrounded the Shadow Bird. The dark bird struggled inside this magical string, and its body slowly turned into light particles, completely vanishing. That freezing dark mist in the room dispersed entirely, and the first clean rays of the sun entered through the windows.

Pip stood up from the ground and purred with joy; his tail was now glowing even brighter than before. Cole took a deep breath and sat on the ground, looking at that golden sun drawing in his notebook. He was no longer pessimistic.

Celeste came over to him, the silver needle in her hand gleaming brightly.

"We did it, Cole. Your dreams defeated the bird. But doomed..." Celeste raised her head, looked out the window toward the sky, and said, "It is time to return your star and for me to go back home."

The first golden sunbeams of the morning, filtering through the windows of the clock tower, made the dust particles in the room glitter. The Shadow Bird was completely destroyed, and the tick-tock sounds of the ancient clock were bringing the rhythm of life and time back to the city once more.

Holding that massive silver needle gleaming in her hand, Celeste approached the edge of the window. Her long, silvery hair was gently waving in the air under the influence of the morning breeze. She had completed her mission on Earth. Cole was no longer pessimistic; the love for art and dreams within him had been reborn. However, this magnificent victory also brought a great sadness along with it: the time for parting had come.

Cole slowly took a step toward her. In his hand, he was still holding the sketchbook where he had drawn that magical golden sun. "So... is everything over? Are you returning to the sky?" – Cole's voice was trembling. It was the first time in years that his heart was beating this fast for a human.

Celeste fixed her purple eyes on Cole's eyes. Her heart was aching deeply, too. "Yes, Cole. I must return to the sky and fix your big golden star back into its official place in the heavens. If I don't do this, the balance of the universe will be disrupted. But I promise, I will never forget you and that magnificent light you drew."

Just at that moment, Pip the magical kitten came out of the bag and rubbed against Cole's leg, as if saying goodbye to him with his neon-blue tail.

Celeste raised the silver needle in her hand toward the sky. A flood of purple light coming from the tip of the needle formed a magical staircase extending out the window, straight toward the clouds. Celeste took her first step onto the stairs. As she climbed upward, her body slowly turned into light particles. Just as she reached the middle of the clouds, she struck the needle in her hand and the golden string woven from the hope inside Cole onto the sky map. Suddenly, over the entire city, the brightest, most massive, and golden star ever seen ignited in the night sky. This was Cole's remembered dream.

Cole looked at that star through the tower window, smiled, and whispered: "I promise too, Celeste. I will never break that last string you tied to me."

YEARS LATER...

Time passed. Cole was no longer that introverted, hooded, sad boy. He had turned into one of the most famous local artists in the world with his colorful, magical, and starry paintings. Every person looking at his canvases felt a great hope and a desire to dream within themselves. Cole had opened his own large art studio near that very same ancient clock tower in the center of the city.

One autumn evening, as stars lined up over the city, Cole was working on his latest canvas in his studio. The painting depicted a silvery-haired, purple-eyed girl, and next to her, a kitten with a glowing tail.

Suddenly, the bell at the studio door jingled with a sweet sound: ZINNNG...

Following the autumn breeze that entered inside, the air of the room was suddenly filled with neon-purple star dust. Cole raised his head in amazement. Standing at the doorway was a beautiful girl with long, shimmering silvery hair, wearing an elegant dress woven from white clouds. This was Celeste! Right next to her feet stood Pip the kitten, purring and joyfully wagging his neon-blue tail.

"I came back, Cole," – Celeste smiled through her tears. "The Wise Weaver rewarded me for the great courage we showed on Earth. I am no longer the weaver of the sky, but the weaver of the dreams in your world. Forever..."

Cole dropped the brush in his hand to the ground. Without a second thought, he rushed forward and hugged Celeste tightly, taking her into his arms. The paintings of light and shadow, sky and earth had completely merged into one another. Pip, on the other hand, was spinning around them, scattering sparks of joy.

Just a few months later, right in the courtyard of that ancient and magical clock tower, the most extraordinary and colorful wedding in the history of the city was held. At the wedding, all the buildings, trees, and the sky were decorated with colorful neon strings. When Celeste was in her wedding dress, the star dust pouring from between her silvery hair rained down on the guests like a miracle. Cole, on the other hand, placed a glowing silver ring made from a star pupil onto her finger.

On the night they got married, all the constellations in the sky danced as if tied together by the sky's last string, applauding this great love on Earth. Cole and Celeste lived a happy and magical life until the end of their days, weaving each other's dreams.
