Summary

Lucan never asked to become part of the hidden world that rules the night. But when blood, power, and old secrets drag him into a society of monsters wearing human faces, survival is no longer enough. Vampires, witches, wolves, and ancient bloodlines are all hunting for somethingโ€”and Lucan may be tied to it more deeply than he understands. As alliances shift and desire becomes as dangerous as violence, he is forced to navigate a world where loyalty can damn you, love can ruin you, and every step toward power costs a piece of who you were. In a city ruled by hunger and old law, the question is no longer whether Lucan will survive. It is what he will become if he does.

A Readerโ€™s Guide to the World of Bloodbound

Everything named here is fictional and belongs to the world of Edrath.

Before You Begin

Bloodbound is set in Edrath, an invented world shaped by railways, expanding industry, old roads, and institutions that were built long before anyone understood all of their consequences. This guide is a simple orientation to the names and places that appear near the beginning of the story. It contains no answers to the storyโ€™s mysteries and no information that a reader is expected to discover later.

The Wider World

Edrath โ€” The world in which the story takes place.

Aestrin โ€” The principal continent of the story.

Bellisar โ€” The kingdom where the opening chapters occur. Its government, railways, courts, and civic offices shape daily life across the region.

Celenne โ€” The political capital of Bellisar. It is the seat of national administration, though the opening story is centered elsewhere.

Valcer โ€” A major industrial city in Bellisar and the principal setting of the opening arc. It is a city of foundries, rail lines, municipal works, courts, offices, crowded streets, and older structures being forced to accommodate new development.

Places Near the Opening Story

The Merrow Posting House โ€” The modest family inn on the older Bellisari road, run by Tomas and Mara Merrow. Its business has declined as railway expansion changes how people and goods travel.

Valcer Northern Railway โ€” The railway system connecting Valcer with northern districts and industrial routes. Its records, freight, workers, and abandoned spurs are important to the cityโ€™s practical life.

Kaelren Corridor โ€” A major railway and transport corridor associated with northern traffic and old infrastructure.

Meralis Cut โ€” A cut-through route and railway district connected to the northern infrastructure around Valcer. The name may appear in records, routes, and local discussion.

Assize Square โ€” The public square surrounding the Assize Hall and nearby civic offices. It contains older paving and public works that predate some of the cityโ€™s newer improvements.

Assize Hall โ€” The courthouse and civic landmark facing Assize Square.

Ragman Lane โ€” A narrow service lane used by deliveries and workers near the Claims Annex.

East Valcer Freight Yard โ€” A large working railway yard of sheds, coal stages, cranes, sidings, wagons, and municipal freight routes.

Mirecross โ€” A district and older route area associated with an abandoned railway spur, marshland, and disputed land records.

Institutions and Organizations

The Bureau of Unusual Affairs โ€” A young state investigative organization that handles incidents ordinary offices cannot easily classify. Its officers operate through warrants, reports, evidence custody, and civic authority.

Civic Claims โ€” The branch of government concerned with public claims, railway compensation, property disputes, and related records.

The Claims Annex โ€” A municipal records and processing building where claims, seals, press books, and official documents are registered and stored.

The Custodians โ€” An old human order connected to the preservation of agreements, boundaries, and the balance between supernatural powers. Their full history is not part of this introductory guide.

The Black Lanterns โ€” Independent hunters and investigators who deal with supernatural dangers outside ordinary state structures.

The Halden Institute โ€” A scholarly institution devoted to the study of supernatural biology, magic, and related phenomena.

Rell and Vane โ€” The commercial legal office where Lucan Merrow works as a junior clerk. It handles contracts, property claims, railway compensation, and industrial disputes.

Anchor Works and Transit โ€” An industrial and transport concern involved in municipal works, railway-related construction, and civic infrastructure.

Valcer Civic Improvement Trust โ€” A public-facing organization connected to improvement contracts and municipal development in Valcer.

The Road Commission โ€” The older administrative body responsible for roads, easements, route surveys, and related public infrastructure.

Terms You Will Encounter

The Covenant โ€” The common name for the supernatural legal order that governs certain old agreements and restrictions. Its fuller formal name is the Concordance of Witnesses. It is not a single government; it is an interlocking system of witnesses, constraints, Anchors, and treaties.

Concordant Reckoning โ€” The calendar used in the story. The opening chapters take place in the year 842.

Anchor โ€” A term used for certain places, objects, or structures connected to old boundaries and agreements. The opening chapters establish the word before explaining its full meaning.

Quiet Iron โ€” A rare iron-bearing material associated with unusual effects on bodies, sound, and supernatural phenomena. It appears first through evidence and infrastructure rather than explanation.

Veyra โ€” A rare form of protection recognized by old supernatural law. At this stage, readers only need to know that the word carries legal and political weight.

Firstblood โ€” A title used for extremely old vampires. Their history, number, and origins are deliberately not explained here.

The Bloodbound State โ€” The condition of a vampire after transformation. The story will explain its rules through events rather than through this guide.

A Note on Names

Names such as Valcer, Bellisar, Aestrin, Edrath, Mirecross, and the organizations listed above are fictional. They are not references to real cities, countries, companies, courts, or historical institutions. They are part of the invented geography and civic life of Bloodbound.

This guide is intentionally limited. As Lucanโ€™s investigation widens, the world will become more complicated, and later chapters will introduce the history, factions, supernatural laws, and older powers that cannot be understood safely in advance.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
