CHAPTER 1

Everyday

It was not the first time I had been yelled at by my father because I did not give him his hot tea, and my mother did nothing except just look at me like I had committed some huge crime. I wish I could argue with him about his obsession with yelling at me for every single thing, but I was already late for school, so I just grabbed my backpack and went outside the mansion.

Well, yeah, mansion. Because my father is a very successful businessman and, blah blah blah, rich and all that, but fancy rooms and a fancy office don't change anything.

Well, back to reality.

I then sat in my car while my driver started the engine. The ride from the mansion to school was suffocating as well.

Fortunately, the school arrived, and just when I entered the school, Yelena spotted me.

“Where the hell are you? You did not even reply to my texts and calls!” she said.

“Hey, I’m good. It’s just, you know, Dad was close to killing me with his freaking yelling as hell,” I said.

“Ahh, I know. To be honest, it’s totally understandable, but you know I am here,” and just as she was about to say something—

The bell rang.

“We can do the yapping later. Let’s go to the classroom first,” I said while grabbing the strap of my bag.

“Oh, yeah, right.”

Then we both went to our classroom.

And just when I entered the classroom, I saw him.

Lucien Veyn.

The most arrogant and egotistical jerk I had ever seen in my life.

“Ugh. Him again,” I said annoyingly to Yelena.

When suddenly, his best friend, Bruce Schledin, the second-most irritating jerk, was with some of their friends, acting like the world revolved around them.

Anyways, Yelena and I sat on our seats while that jerk Bruce said,

“Look who’s here. Some ugly bitches.”

Just when Yelena and I heard this, she snapped her head toward him and said,

“Ohh yeah? Still better than your mom’s genes.”

Boy, I literally tried so hard not to laugh.

Bruce opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, Lucien gave him a warning look.

“Just leave it, Bruce,” he said.

I couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped me.

Lucien’s eyes suddenly shifted toward me.

“Something funny?”

“No,” I said, trying my best to look serious.

Yelena was already covering her mouth, trying not to laugh.

Before either of us could say anything else, the classroom door opened.

“Good morning, students,” Professor Kalra said, placing her books on the desk. “I hope you’ve had enough time for your morning entertainment. Now, please sit down.”

The entire class went quiet.

Finally.

Professor Kalra picked up a sheet of paper.

“Before we continue yesterday’s lesson, I have one announcement.”

Everyone looked up.

“Your new project groups have been decided.”

My stomach dropped. I had a very bad feeling about this.

Professor Kalra started reading the names.

“Yelena Cezeirs… with Bruce Schledin.”

I snapped my head toward Yelena. She was looking furious enough to start a whole debate about why Professor Kalra should not assign her with Bruce.

But before she could say anything about this, Professor Kalra continued.

“Kristien Winters…”

I held my breath.

“...with Lucien Veyn.”

WAIT, WHAT?!

You have got to be kidding me.
