arie schaffte es nicht mehr rechtzeitig. Das letzte, was sie wahrnahm, entbehrte so sehr der menschlichen Vorstellungskraft, dass es sich statt auf beschreibbare Zeugnisse nur noch auf reine Emotion reduzieren ließ. Auf Fragmente, mehr gefühlt, als mit den Sinnen aufgenommen: Ihre drei Kinder, fern auf der Weide vor dem Haus. Drei Silhouetten, erfasst von der kataklystischen Welle. Drei Mikrosekunden. Keine Zeit, die Köpfe zu ihr zu wenden, keine Zeit zum Schreien, keine Zeit für Angst.

»Auf drei«, bestätigte Commander Shawn, in dem Moment in dem Maries Existenz endete. Rund vierhundert Kilometer über der Erdoberfläche. Die Crew der Raumstation hatte sich in der Messe versammelt, beobachtete schwerelos doch schweren Gemüts, in was sich die Oberfläche ihres Heimatplaneten verwandelt hatte. Sie hielten die Pillen in den geballten Fäusten oder drehten sie zwischen Zeigefinger und Daumen, nahmen ihre glatte Struktur wahr. Durch das Panoramafenster erstrahlte die brennende Erde warm und tobend.

»Drei«, sprach Shawn, und sie führten die Pillen gemeinsam zu ihren Mündern.
