The Documentary
[DOCUMENTARY OPENING – TRANSCRIPT]
[FRAME 1]
(The screen fades in from pitch black. No ambient music—just the rhythmic, hollow click of an old film reel overlaying crisp, high-definition digital footage. The title appears in stark, razor-thin typography: BEHIND THE GLASS: THE MONARCHY IN CRISIS.)
NARRATOR (V.O.):
"On the morning of July 27th, an empire’s public front shattered. Not from an act of parliament, nor a global conflict, but from a single photograph taken at a side gate at 4:12 AM."
(A rapid montage cuts across the screen: rain-slicked iron gates, the flashing emergency lights of a motorcade, news presses rolling at high speed, and a blur of international headlines flashing across the frame.)
[FRAME 2 – INTERVIEW: ARTHUR DAVIES]
(The setting is a dimly lit, high-ceilinged studio in East London. Arthur sits on a simple dark chair against a raw concrete wall. He wears a plain navy sweater with the sleeves pushed up to his forearms. He looks tired, shadows beneath his eyes, but his posture is unyielding. His jaw is set, his eyes fixed dead-center on the camera lens.)
INTERVIEWER (OFF-CAMERA):
"When the news broke that morning... when you saw the photograph circulating online... what went through your mind?"
ARTHUR:
(He takes a slow, steady breath. His fingers tighten slightly over his knee, his voice low and dangerous.)
"I didn't care about Fleet Street. I didn't care about the cameras setting up outside my door or what the tabloids were going to print about me. My only thought was of him. I knew the institutional machine he was standing inside of. I knew how cold those corridors get when the doors lock. And for the first time... I couldn't reach him."
(Arthur pauses, a sharp edge entering his tone as he stares into the lens.)
ARTHUR:
"The Palace thought they could treat him like a quiet, delicate problem to sweep away. They fundamentally misunderstood who he is."
[FRAME 3 – INTERVIEW: PRINCE BENEDICT]
(The shot cuts to a stark, light-filled room in a private residence. Benedict sits upright in a dark tailored jacket, open collar, impeccably composed. There is no tremor in his hands, no weakness in his frame. His expression is cold, sharp, and entirely controlled.)
INTERVIEWER (OFF-CAMERA):
"Your Highness... when the scandal erupted across the world that morning, were you afraid of what you were about to face inside the Palace?"
BENEDICT:
(A long silence fills the room. Benedict doesn't move a muscle. His voice is smooth, dry, and perfectly steady.)
BENEDICT:
"I had spent years living under a quiet, constant state of fear. Afraid of the press, afraid of protocol, afraid of what would happen if the world saw me clearly. But when the morning came and the truth was out... the fear simply ceased."
INTERVIEWER (OFF-CAMERA):
"Why?"
BENEDICT:
(He tilts his head slightly, his gaze piercing.)
"Because there was nothing left to hide behind. The glass was already broken. All that was left to do was stand up and face them."
[FRAME 4]
(The screen cuts sharply to black. The heavy, reverberating sound of a heavy wooden door shutting locked echoes through the audio feed.)
NARRATOR (V.O.):
"This is what happened when the doors closed."
