Chapter 10
Chapter Ten — The Missing Year
Lena returned home with Ethan and her aunt.
She couldn't stop thinking about the girl.
“What did my mother do?” Lena asked.
Her aunt placed an old box on the table.
“She discovered that the gift doesn't simply show tomorrow.”
Lena opened the box.
Inside were photographs and handwritten notes.
“It can connect different possible futures,” her aunt continued.
Ethan looked confused.
“So the girl is from another future?”
“Yes.”
“Can she change ours?”
Her aunt nodded.
“If she finds the right way.”
Lena looked through the photographs.
Then she found something strange.
There was a photograph of her mother holding Lena as a baby.
But the date was wrong.
It was dated one year before Lena was born.
Lena stared at it.
“That's impossible.”
Her aunt went silent.
“What happened that year?” Lena asked.
“Your mother disappeared.”
“For how long?”
“One year.”
Lena looked at her in shock.
“You never told me that.”
“You were too young.”
“But why did she disappear?”
Her aunt hesitated.
“She was searching for the first person who ever had the gift.”
“Who?”
Her aunt pulled out another photograph.
An old woman stood beside a giant clock.
“My mother.”
Lena stared at the photograph.
“My grandmother?”
Her aunt nodded.
“She was the first person in our family to record the dreams.”
Lena turned the photograph over.
A sentence was written on the back.
The gift does not belong to the dreamer.
Lena frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Her aunt didn't answer.
Suddenly, the silver key in Lena's pocket began to glow.
Ethan noticed it.
“Lena.”
She pulled it out.
A strange symbol appeared on the wall.
A circle.
Inside it was a clock.
And beneath it were three words:
FIND THE FIRST.
