Chapter 1 — The Interview That Changed Everything
Dad sat there looking worried. He had no work, my brother’s education was suffering, and my sister was sitting at home. We were struggling financially, and there was barely any money left.
Mom sat beside Dad as he sighed and said, “I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t have a single penny in my hands. Whatever little we have will barely be enough for food.”
Mom looked worried too.
I tried to reassure them. “Dad, I’m going for another job interview. Don’t worry. Everything will be fine. You’ll see.”
Everyone looked at me with hopelessness in their eyes. I couldn’t blame them. This was already my fourth interview, and I hadn’t gotten a single job yet.
I wonder what will happen today.

So she stayed seated, gathering every bit of courage she had.
Just then, someone called her name.
“Miss Clara Evans? Your interview is next. Please go to the office room immediately.”
Clara nervously picked up her file and purse and walked toward the office. When she reached the door, she knocked softly.
“May I come in, sir?”
A deep, captivating voice came from inside.
“Come in.”
The moment Clara heard that voice, a shiver ran down her spine.
“Maybe this is why those girls came out crying…” she thought nervously.
Still, she gathered her courage, took a deep breath, and stepped inside.
But the moment she looked ahead, she froze in place
