For days, Miles Ashford had made it entirely too easy to like him.
The late-night calls. The constant texts. The way he somehow always found a way to make me smile.
Tonight, I finally agreed to be his date at a suffocatingly grand Ashford family party.
I was laughing at something he'd whispered in my ear when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
Someone was watching us.
I looked up, scanning the perimeter of the room.
By the foot of the staircase stood a man in dark clothes, his face a mask of quiet indifference.
Cameron Ashford.
Miles's older brother.
Our eyes met across the room. He didn't smile, and he sure as hell didn't look away. He just stared, heavy and deliberate, like a predator tracking its target.
"That's my brother," Miles said, oblivious, his shoulder brushing mine.
My throat went dry.
"I figured."
Cameron's gaze flicked down to Miles's hand resting close to mine, lingering for a beat before rising back to my eyes.
Suddenly, Miles didn't exist anymore.
