Chapter 1 Resistance
Apologies in Advance. My English is very weak and I don't use AI to write my stories. Please leave your reviews!
I stood there. Frozen. Unable to move. I wanted to move. I just couldn’t. ‘Several times, victims freeze in hyper tense situations involuntarily.’
That’s what the article had said. And I could sense it in my every nerve. Every bone. My heart was hammering my chest. And yet, my face was turning pale.
He was a few metres away. Cloaked. The penumbra of his hood swallowed his face entirely. He took a step towards me. The echo of his shoes sliced through the silence.
A freezing zephyr brushed softly on my face. Bergen suddenly felt colder than it was supposed to. I looked up. There was no moon. Just darkness. And Dense clouds that could rain any second.I looked sideways. Right first. ‘Henrysons’ Coffee’ I usually hated their coffee. But I suddenly wanted to have it. Then I gazed on the left. Just a numb road. A Broken Streetlamp. An empty footpath.
I took a deep breath and gathered the courage to speak, “See, you butt face! You don’t know who you’re messing with! I can break your every single bone and chew it! I’m a maneater! I’m vicious! I can”, he cut me mid-sentence.
He spoke. After exactly five minutes of depressing silence, he spoke. And his voice sent me chills. My arm hairs straightened. There was a strange weight in his voice.
“You Could. You cannot.”
I swallowed. Harder this time. “And who’s gonna stop me?”
He titled his head just slightly. Taking another step towards me.
“I will.”
For a reason I did not know I felt like it’s my last day.
“Holy mother of hundred crows! Someone help me, please!” I yelled with all my energy.
The man chuckled. I felt like my ears are going to bleed. He didn’t just sound human. He felt something beyond it. Something I couldn’t explain.
“Stop making weird theories, Audrey!”, I whispered to myself.
He spoke again, “Nobody is going to help you, little brat.”
“Oh, you know how to curse? I thought you don’t.”
And then…
He paced towards me. Every step felt like a needle piercing my skin.
My heart raced. I put all my efforts to make a movement. He was inches away from me. His hand reaching for my face. When I heard a loud thud. Like a huge metal crashing on the earth.
The cloaked figure gazed sideways. And I noticed something. His eyes. They were violet.
He snarled.
“I must ask. ARE YOU A FREAKING ANIMAL?”
But he ignored me. And walked to the left. I followed him through my gaze. And saw another figure. Tall. Wearing a long coat and boots. And the next thing I noticed was his eyes. Crimson red. Like blood.
“Oh, fuck! I’m dreaming! This is a dream, Audrey. Wake up.” I shouted. But apparently, no one heard. I wasn’t even expecting anyone to hear. But it still felt awkward.
I didn’t know what happened next properly. All I could recall is that I fell to the ground the next second. My eyes were watery and it blurred my vision. But I witnessed something I was probably not supposed to. A dangerous fight. The violet eyed man pushed the other with a force that still makes my mind freeze.
And then, the one with crimson, yet heavenly eyes shoved him away, sending him crash into the Henrysons’ glass window and completely shattering it.
I closed my eyes for a second. And when I opened them, there was silence. The mirror was perfectly still. There were no debris and destroyed street lamp on the road. It felt like nothing happened. I felt a hand on my shoulder. But I didn’t move. I could. I didn’t. It felt like someone picked me in their arms. I closed my eyes again. Just for a split second.
But then I saw ceiling. Beige ceiling. The refreshing smell of lemon tea. My Duvet covered the half of my body. Sunlight crept in through windows that I remember closing.
“You’re up, Aurora.” It was Nancy. I could recognize her voice even in my sleep. She was my caretaker after all. The one who raised me when my parents couldn’t. The one who was always there for me when no one was. I whispered weakly, “It’s Audrey.”
“But you slept like sleeping beauty.”, Nancy poured lemon tea in the cup, “Get ready. Your parents are in the living area. They want answers.”
I slowly sat up. Looking around. “When did I got home?”
“It was two O’clock. You seemed so pale and weak. Just came. And went straight to your bed. I genuinely thought you’re drunk.”
I defended myself, “I don’t drink.”
But she just shrugged. I rolled my eyes and looked outside the window.
“What happened, Sweetie?”, she asked me softly.
“I don’t know. It…”, I sighed. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I witnessed was reality or dream.
“Take your time. And have the tea. And I have a news.”
I gazed at her. Something the way she said it just didn’t feel right. “Miss?”
“First, it’s Nancy.”
“You’re forty-eight years old. And twenty-five years older than me.”, I folded my arms. Narrowing my eyes.
“Anyways. Jessica is back.”, Nancy immediately got up and paced to the door.
“Are you serious? She can’t!”
“Well, she can.”, Nancy opened the door and slammed it. It was her habit. Slamming the door to ensure that it’s closed.
I buried my head in the duvet. I didn’t want to face Jessica at all. But I couldn’t help it. With a heavy heart, I stepped out of my bed and walked to the window.
Softness of the wind. Warmth of the sun. And pleasant rattling of bushes. Something about it always bought me at ease. The mansion always seemed overwhelming. Norwegian construction. Huge Foutain. Classy metal doorways. Green and flowery pavements. Dozens of security guards. And constant judgement.
As my gaze fell upon a lavender flower, a memory flashed in my mind. I remembered it. Most of it. The eyes. The battle. The gentle touch on my shoulder. The hand on my waist. Words I’d forgotten. “You’re different than I thought.”
I gasped. Too loudly. My feet stumbled and I collapsed on the marble floor. I couldn’t feel any air. My vision was slowly turning blurry. I tried to yell, “Nancy…”, but it was barely a whisper. My head was burning. And my ears started ringing. The shrieking, unpleasant sound. It was deafening. It felt like someone was choking me.
And I saw him again. The Violet eyed man. Still Cloaked. I still couldn’t see his face. He was slowly walking towards me. His boots. They felt strangely familiar.
“No…” Another failed attempt to speak. But then, I passed out. Or so I thought.
My eyes flew open and I found myself near the window. Where I was. Where I was supposed to be. A few drops of sweat fell on my hand. I cupped my face. I was panting like I’d been running for an hour.
I looked down. And saw a few long brown strands of hair. They were mine. I brushed my hairs through my hand. Nothing.
“Audrey! Your mom is waiting!” Nancy was exclaiming from outside.
“Coming!”
It Just didn’t feel right.
