Chapter 1
FIND ME IN MY NEXT LIFE
PART ONE: WHEN FATE FIRST KNOCKED
Chapter One: A Stranger in the Coffee Shop
Every love story begins with a meeting. Ours began with two strangers, a cup of coffee, and a force neither of us could escape.
Rain drizzled softly over the city as people hurried along the sidewalks with umbrellas in hand.
Emilia Hart walked quietly through the rain, her black backpack resting on her shoulders. Her expression was blank, but inside, her mind was anything but peaceful. Another argument between her parents echoed in her head, leaving her exhausted. Unable to bear the thought of going straight home, she decided to stop by a small coffee shop nearby.
At the same time, Noah Bennett was leaving the coffee shop after spending the afternoon with his friends.
He flashed them his usual cheerful smile.
"See you all in school tomorrow."
"See you!" his friends replied.
Noah pushed open the glass door just as Emilia stepped inside.
Their shoulders brushed.
"I'm sorry," Noah said instinctively.
Emilia looked up.
For a brief moment, their eyes met.
She blinked once before giving a small nod and walking past him without a word.
Noah watched her disappear toward the counter for a second before shaking his head with a faint smile. It was just another stranger... or so he thought.
Emilia approached the counter.
"One Americano, please," she said softly.
The waiter smiled politely.
"Certainly, ma'am. Cash or card?"
"Cash."
She slipped her hand into her backpack, took out her wallet, and handed the cash to the waiter.
"Thank you."
A few moments later, the waiter returned with her drink.
"Your Americano. Enjoy."
"Thank you."
Taking the warm cup in her hands, Emilia made her way to the seat by the window.
She stared outside as raindrops slid down the glass. Couples walked together beneath shared umbrellas, laughing as if the world held no worries.
She looked away.
Maybe love was never meant to last.
The thought lingered in her heart as she quietly sipped her coffee.
After a while, Emilia stood, slipped her wallet back into her backpack, picked up her coffee, and walked out of the coffee shop.
Across the street, Noah was still chatting with his friends.
Without knowing why, his eyes drifted toward the young woman walking away in the rain.
He watched her for only a second before turning back to the conversation.
Neither of them knew...
In less than twenty-four hours, fate would bring them together again.
