Chapter 1
POEM ___ Life
Life does not ask when you are ready;
it simply opens another door.
Some doors lead to laughter,
some to lessons,
and some leave you standing in silence,
wondering why you ever entered.
But perhaps life is not measured
by how many doors were kind to us,
but by how much wisdom
we carried through the ones that weren't.
For the road does not promise happiness,
and tomorrow does not promise ease;
yet every step we survive
becomes a story we can someday understand.
STORY ___
Mara had always believed that life followed a plan.
She had a notebook filled with everything she wanted: the school she wanted to attend, the career she dreamed of, the city she hoped to live in, and even the kind of person she wanted to become.
Then, in one year, almost none of it happened.
She didn't get into the school she had dreamed about. Her closest friend moved away. An opportunity she had worked hard for went to someone else.
For the first time, Mara felt as if life had closed every door in front of her.
One evening, she sat alone beneath the old mango tree behind her house, holding her notebook in her hands.
“I did everything right,” she whispered. “So why didn't life give me what I wanted?”
Her grandmother, who had been sitting nearby, looked at her.
“Perhaps,” she said gently, “you are standing in front of the wrong door.”
Mara frowned.
“Then which door am I supposed to open?”
Her grandmother smiled.
“The one life places in front of you.”
Mara didn't understand.
Not yet.
Months passed. Mara began helping at a small community center near her home. She taught younger children how to read and discovered something she had never expected: she loved teaching.
It wasn't the life she had planned.
But slowly, she realized something.
The closed doors had not ended her journey. They had simply turned her toward a road she had never noticed.
Years later, Mara looked through her old notebook. Most of the dreams written inside it had changed.
She smiled.
She finally understood that life had never promised to give her the future she imagined.
It had only promised her another day to keep walking.
And sometimes, the door we cry over losing is the very door that leads us somewhere better.
