Bio catastrophe (ch-1)

Earth's surface was covered by 71% water, and less than 5% of it had been explored by humans.

In the year 2066, five powerful nations—the Eagle, Dragon, Bear and Cherry Blossom Nations—jointly launched a project to explore the 71% of Earth's surface covered by water. Project Sea was the most covert and highly secretive project ever undertaken in the history of Earth.

It's the year 3040. My name is Chaithu, and I'm from a still-developing nation called the Elephant Nation, one of the poorest nations in the world. After Corona, a highly contagious and dangerous virus spread across the world, causing a massive catastrophe. No one knew the origins of this deadly virus, and millions of people were completely wiped out from the surface of the Earth.

Those who survived the Bio-Catastrophe began mutating into new life forms. Their resistance to the virus caused mutations at the DNA level, creating a completely new life form known as the Rakshasa, a term originating from the ancient scriptures of the Elephant Nation.

Their physical constitutions increased tremendously, but their brain development deteriorated, turning them into killing machines. They regarded every other life form as either a threat or food, allowing them to completely dominate the Earth's food chain.

The four most powerful nations jointly built huge floating cities capable of holding millions of people. The Eagle Nation built four floating cities, followed by the Bear Nation with three, the Dragon Nation with two, and the Cherry Blossom Nation with one.

These floating cities saved humanity from extinction. Humans who had not been infected by the virus took shelter in these floating cities scattered across the Earth. Food and water shortages led to many serious complications within these floating cities. We will talk about them later.

Since Chaithu was from a very poor nation, he did not have the financial means to become a resident of a floating city. So, he illegally immigrated to the Dragon Nation and entered one of its two floating cities. Just like him, many people from the Elephant Nation illegally migrated to the Dragon Nation's floating cities. Since the Elephant Nation had the highest population on Earth, the Dragon Nation's leaders, instead of throwing them out of the floating cities, turned them into free laborers.

Like slaves, the citizens of the Elephant Nation had no human rights in the Dragon Nation's floating cities. Four major families dominated the floating city to which Chaithu had illegally migrated: the Tang Family, Su Family, Ye Family, and Dong Family. These families forced women from the Elephant Nation to sleep with them and turned them into sex slaves, while the men from the Elephant Nation were used as meat shields and free laborers.

Chaithu was single and had lost every member of his family during the virus catastrophe. He was the only one left in his family lineage.

He had read about the cruelty committed by foreigners throughout history in his childhood history books, but seeing those same atrocities happening right in front of his eyes made him completely numb to humanity's existence. Sadness, anger, and fear—he slowly lost the ability to feel emotions and accepted his life as a slave to the four Dragon Nation families.

As I mentioned before, due to the severe shortage of food and water, the Dragon Nation's floating cities formed scavenger exploration teams. These scavengers searched the New World for resources. After the virus catastrophe, the survivors named the current world the New World. Through the continuous scavenging efforts of these teams, the floating cities were able to sustain millions of human lives.

Of course, the Elephant Nation's population, which had once numbered in the thousands, decreased to a few hundred. Within a few months, it fell below a hundred, and eventually, only a handful remained—few enough to count on one's fingers. Chaithu was the sole survivor from the Elephant Nation left in his floating city.

Chaithu felt nothing except emptiness. With nothing but the sheer will to survive, he had somehow survived until now. Since there were no longer any Elephant Nation citizens available to serve as sex slaves and free laborers, the four major families in the floating city implemented new rules and began turning their own people into sex slaves and free laborers. Of course, these Dragon Nation slaves were treated slightly better than Chaithu.

The floating cities built by the Dragon Nation completely embodied the authenticity of the nation. A huge dragon statue stood at the top of the floating city. Below it lay 10,000 acres of agricultural land, followed by the operational area of the floating city, where everything related to the management and operation of the city was handled.

Below that were the living quarters of the four noble families ruling the floating city. Beneath them were the branch families of those four noble families and the families of the scavenger exploration teams. Below them lived the families of Dragon Nation citizens who held high-level positions in the floating city.

At the very bottom of the floating city were the quarters for slaves. They were not allowed to leave their living quarters; if they did, they would be killed on the spot. The Su Family managed the security of the floating city. Their guards patrolled every corner of the city except the bottom sector where the slaves lived.

Because of this, deaths over food and water were frequent. Slaves often killed each other for food and water.

As usual, Chaithu was selected to serve as a meat shield. God only knew how he had survived as a meat shield for so long. Today, he was ordered to join a scavenger exploration team as a meat shield.

He boarded a truck filled with slaves. They served as meat shields and also as free laborers responsible for carrying the scavenged goods back to the trucks. If the slaves successfully completed their work, they would receive a small quantity of rations that could last them for at least two to three days.

The platform descended from the floating city toward the ground. Of course, they always chose landing locations where there were fewer sightings of Rakshasa.

Hundreds of people died every day. A population that had once numbered in the millions had been reduced to thousands.

Only 40,000 people remained in the floating city.

Inside the slave truck...

“Father, why did he sit all alone, so far away from us?” a young lady asked the middle-aged man beside her, whose weathered face was framed by a head full of white hair.

“He is an Elephant Nation citizen. Stay away from him and avoid any contact with him. He doesn't deserve to sit with us,” said the middle-aged man with wrinkles beneath his eyes as he looked at the young man.

“But Father, we are slaves just like him, right? Why doesn't he deserve to sit with us?” the young lady asked with a frown on her face.

“Shut up. We are Dragon Nation slaves. We are not equal to him. Our standing will always be above his. He is lowborn from the Elephant Nation. That pathetic and poor nation was never equal to us,” said the middle-aged man while glaring at his daughter.

The young lady lowered her head in fear and obediently shut her mouth. She looked at the young man one last time before hiding her face between her legs and covering her head with her skinny hands.

The young man, who had heard everything, did not react. He simply continued staring at the ceiling of the truck with lifeless eyes.

He was alive on the outside, but dead on the inside.
