THE BEGINNING
I was having a mental breakdown after the quarrel with my boss I had an hour ago.
That old rag would never give me the promotion I had always been relying on.
I had promised my mother—the only family I have after my father cheated on her with another rich-ass woman.
I hate him for that.
In fact, I always have. He was a workaholic and a son of a bitch with multiple flings, despite my mom’s love for him—
one-sided love, for fuck’s sake.
I never mentioned their toxic relationship because I love my mum. She has always been rooting for me to become successful in life, so that we could leave this present tragedy behind.
Anyway, my boss…
That jerk has always made me work under his control. I never complained, for he is a short-tempered man with an ugly reputation—but a successful company, and that is exactly what matters the most to me.
I have been trying to be the perfect little employee, working 24/7 despite his dramatic tantrums.
He’s wrong. Everyone knows it.
All of his employees obey his demands because of money—and let’s not forget, I am no less.
I am not greedy, but for my mum, I can be anything—whether good or bad.
I was working on one of the most important assignments at the very last minute, under immense pressure, when my boss suddenly called me and started yelling.
His words were laced with bullshit and urgency. I couldn’t understand much, only catching snippets of his verbal tirade.
He was talking about an important client meeting—we needed sponsorship to boost the company’s reputation in Spain.
I was ready to curse him out, until he mentioned something about the promotion I had been longing for.
I agreed immediately.
He was in some loud conference hall, so I couldn’t catch the name of the hotel he told me to stay at the night before the meeting.
I almost asked him to repeat it, but he had already hung up, giving me no further details about the meeting or the hotel.
Still, I brushed it off—already excited about the sudden trip to a place I had never been to, and the promotion that now felt within reach.
He sent me the flight ticket a few hours later.
In the meantime, I packed my suitcase, practically beaming with anticipation.
I got into the flight, seated beside a nosy kid who almost killed me with his annoying presence.
