Clipped by Love
Clipped by Love
In the deepest realm of Hell, where rivers of fire wound between mountains of black stone, there lived a demon named Vaelric.
He was not a prince.
He was not a noble.
He was merely a guardian of the eastern gates, born into one of the lowest demon houses.
But Vaelric possessed something rare among demons.
He could love.
And that was precisely what doomed him.
Every night, Vaelric secretly climbed the obsidian cliffs beyond the palace walls. From there, he could see the world above—a place demons were forbidden to visit without the Demon King's permission.
That was where he first saw Seraphina.
She was a woman of the celestial realm, the daughter of a powerful heavenly lord.
She should have been his enemy.
Instead, she became the reason Vaelric looked forward to every night.
They met beneath the ancient veil separating their worlds.
At first, they only spoke.
Then they laughed.
Then they began waiting for each other.
And eventually, they fell hopelessly in love.
They knew it was forbidden.
A demon could never love an angel.
And certainly not a demon of Vaelric's station.
But love had never cared about kingdoms, bloodlines, or thrones.
For months, they kept their relationship hidden.
Until one night, someone saw them.
The secret reached the throne of Hell.
The Demon King summoned Vaelric to the palace.
The great doors slammed shut behind him.
Upon the throne sat Malachar, the Demon King, whose horns curled like blackened crowns and whose eyes burned with ancient fury.
"You dared to disgrace my kingdom," Malachar said.
Vaelric lowered his head.
"I dared to love."
The throne room fell silent.
Malachar slowly rose.
"You are a gate guardian."
His voice echoed against the stone.
"She is the daughter of a heavenly lord."
Vaelric looked directly into the king's eyes.
"She is the woman I love."
The Demon King stared at him.
Then he smiled.
It was not a kind smile.
"Then let us see how long your love survives without your wings."
Vaelric's eyes widened.
"No."
Chains of fire wrapped around his arms.
He struggled, but there was no escape.
The Demon King stepped toward him.
"Your wings are a privilege granted to demons of my kingdom."
Malachar raised one hand.
"You have proven yourself unworthy of them."
Vaelric screamed as the magical blades sliced through the bases of his wings.
His great black wings fell to the floor.
For the first time in his life, Vaelric felt truly powerless.
The Demon King turned away.
"Take him to the wastelands."
Vaelric was thrown beyond the palace gates.
Broken.
Wingless.
Alone.
But Malachar had made one mistake.
He believed clipping Vaelric's wings would destroy his love.
Instead, it made him stronger.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
Vaelric lived in a small cave at the edge of Hell, learning how to survive without his wings.
One night, he heard footsteps.
He turned.
Seraphina stood before him.
Her celestial gown was torn, and one of her wings was bleeding.
"You came," Vaelric whispered.
She smiled through her tears.
"I told you I'd find you."
Vaelric shook his head.
"They'll punish you."
"They already tried."
She stepped closer.
"They told me I had to choose between Heaven and you."
"And?"
Seraphina reached for his hand.
"I chose you."
Vaelric stared at her.
For the first time since losing his wings, he smiled.
"You shouldn't have."
"Probably not."
She laughed softly.
"But love has never been very good at following rules."
They walked away together.
Behind them stood the kingdoms of Heaven and Hell, divided by centuries of hatred.
Ahead lay an unknown world.
A world where neither of them was prince, princess, demon, or angel.
They were simply two people who had chosen each other.
And somewhere in the burning palace of Hell, the Demon King watched them disappear.
He had clipped Vaelric's wings.
But he had failed to clip his heart.
Because wings could be taken.
Titles could be stripped away.
Kingdoms could fall.
But love—
True love—
Was the one thing even a Demon King could never command.
And that was why Vaelric became the most dangerous demon Hell had ever known.
