Chapter 1 Meant to be Mine
The whole rooftop of Rossi Hotel was glittering.
Pink balloons, white roses, a banner that said "Isabella's Last Fling Before I do." Her bridesmaids were screaming with laughter, champagne popping, music loud.
Isabella Rossi sat in the middle, in a white mini dress and a veil that said BRIDE TO BE, trying to smile.
She should have been the happiest girl in the world. Tomorrow, she was marrying Lucas, her boyfriend of five years.
But her phone had been on her lap for an hour No calls. No texts.
"Okay, Mrs. Lucas-to-be, stop checking your phone!" her best friend, Leah teased, snatching the phone. "Your man is probably getting his suit ready. Or getting some massage!"
Everyone laughed.
Isabella forced a laugh. "I know I know. It's just... he was supposed to be here by seven. He said he would drop by after visiting Samantha."
At the name Samantha, the table went a little quiet. Leah rolled her eyes.
"Samantha again? Girl, that woman has had more emergencies this month than a hospital."
Isabella quickly defended him. "Don't say that She's his childhood friend she's an orphan. And Lucas is just being a good friend."
But even as she said it, her stomach twisted. She had been calling Lucas since 5 PM. Straight to voicemail. The subscriber you have called is not reachable.
Buzz.
Her phone lit up in Leah's hand.
Leah frowned. "Unknown number?"
Isabella took it.
It was a text.
[Don't marry him, Isabella. He doesn't deserve you Bella . I will ruin your wedding if you marry him You were always meant to be mine.
- Dominic
The blood left Isabella's face.
A cold chill ran from her neck down to her spine, even though the night was warm. Her hands went ice cold.
"Isa? What is it? Leah leaned over, noticing her hands shaking.
Two other friends crowded around. "Girl, you look like you saw a ghost!"
Isabella quickly locked her phone and put on a fake smile. Her heart was pounding so loud she thought they could hear it.
"It's nothing," she whispered. "Just a wrong number Some stupid prank."
She tucked the phone deep into her bag, but she could still feel it buzzing in her mind. Dominic.
Who was Dominic? She had never met any Dominic in her life. How did he know her name? How did he know her wedding was tomorrow?
"Are you sure?" Leah wasn't convinced. "Girl, You're shaking."
"I said it's nothing!" Isabella snapped, a little too sharply. Then she softened. "I'm sorry girl I'm just... wedding nerves you know?"
Her friends exchanged looks but didn't push. Leah poured her more champagne and shouted, "Enough Let's play the game How well does Isabella know Lucas!"
They all cheered and started the bridal game. Isabella laughed, answered, drank.
But every two minutes, her eyes went to her bag.
And every time, she tried Lucas's number again under the table.
Not reachable
Not reachable
Not reachable.
While a stranger named Dominic was promising to come and steal her tomorrow.
She told herself it was a joke.
