Intro - I Thought I Knew the Plot
Tell me about the dumbest regret you’ve ever had. Go on.
I’m pretty sure mine would make the top ten.
Halfway through writing the second book of what was supposed to become a bestselling fantasy series, I accidentally died.
Yes. Accidentally. Totally not planned.
And when I opened my eyes again, I found myself inside the very world I had created.
More specifically…
I had become the female lead’s big sister.
There was only one problem.
I had never written about her. Not once.
I really thought I knew the plot.
---
I used to have a pretty decent life.
At twenty-two, I was working at a medium-sized international company. It wasn’t exactly my dream life, but I couldn’t complain too much.
I had a stable job. A decent apartment. A few good friends.
And, even after getting divorced from my high school sweetheart, a surprisingly peaceful life.
As a child, I used to pretend I was a famous writer. I would invent stories in my head, give dramatic speeches to imaginary audiences, and occasionally write a song or a poem.
But I never seriously considered becoming an author.
Until one day, I felt an inexplicable urge to write. I wanted to create a world completely different from my own.
A world filled with magic, romance, dangerous secrets, impossible choices…
And all the experiences I secretly wished I could live myself.
So I started writing. Just for fun.
A few chapters at first, posted on one of those online platforms where aspiring writers uploaded their stories and hoped someone would read them. I wasn’t expecting much.
Then, just when I was getting close to what I thought would be the final chapters…
It went viral.
Suddenly, there were fan clubs dedicated to my beloved female lead. Fans were fighting over the male lead. People were creating theories about characters I had barely planned.
There were edits, fan art, discussions, endless comments…
And readers from all over the world were demanding more.
I couldn’t believe it.
Something I had started simply to kill time had somehow become a story people genuinely cared about. Then things escalated. Fans began asking different platforms to adapt the novel.
First came the webtoon. Then came an even bigger audience.
And only eighteen months after I had written the very first chapter, I was receiving offers to adapt my story into live-action.
My little fantasy had somehow become real. I was living the life that little girl could only dream about.
So why did destiny have to be so cruel?
I had spent my entire life believing that if I planned carefully enough, things would go the way I expected. My days were predictable. My routines were predictable. Even my Tuesdays were predictable: I would go home. Eat my usual dinner. Write.
But that day, for some reason, I wanted pizza.
Why should I regret going out for pizza? Seriously. It’s pizza. I love pizza.
So I went.
That was a mistake. A fatal one, apparently.
All because I wanted pizza.
And dying wasn’t even the worst part.
The worst part was waking up… in my own story.
