Chapter 1: The Whisper

The night in Elarion was never this silent.

Her footsteps echoed loudly against the empty street as she ran, her breath uneven, almost breaking. Her heart pounded so violently it felt like it might burst out of her chest.

Don't look back.

Don't stop.

But she did.

A sharp turn--

A dead end.

Her body froze.

"No.." She whispered, stumbling backwards until her back hit the cool wall.

Slowly she looked up.

A figure stood at the entrance of the valley.

Tall.

Unnatural.

It's lips streched into a twisted smile, revealing sharp, unnatural teeth. Long claws dragged lightly against the wall beside it, screeching sound slicing through the silence.

A Corrupted.

Her vision blurred with fear. Her legs refusing to move.

"Please..." She whispered, through no sound truly came out.

The creature tilted his head...then lunged.

She screamed and shut her eyes, raising her arms...

But nothing happened.

No pain.

No impact

Just silence...

Her breath trembled as she lowered her hands and opened her eyes.

Someone stood in front of her. A girl.

Her back faced her, a sword firmly in her hand. The blade glowed a deep radiant blue like water under moonlight. The same glow traced her eyes, sharp and focused.

Calm.

Unshaken.

Another presence landed beside her. A boy.

Two sickles rested in his hands like fire.

"You Corrupted never learn..." He said, his voice low laced with annoyance.

The corrupted growled and lunged. The girl moved fast and precise.

A small wolf-like companion on her shoulder begin to glow--soft blue light glowing gently.

"Left arm." It whispered.

The boy didn't hesitate.

"Fox Guradian. Mirror clash."

Fragments of light shattered in existence, mirrors forming all around the corrupted, each reflecting the boy in different mirrors.

The creature roared, striking every mirror wildly--destroying reflection after reflection.

Confusion.

Distraction.

An opening for the girl who moved silently, her sword cutting through the Corrupted's arm.

For a moment everything felt silent and stilled again as the dark energy began to seep out in the night air leaving the creature 's body completely.

Behind them the girl only stared at the two, with teary and hopeful eyes.

Ears?

Tails?

The air around them felt different, they weren't just fighters, they were something more, something known, something trusted. The protectors of Elarion.

Wolfheart

And

Sylvix.
