Chapter 1

I'm Miguel, I'm 16 years old. I live in the village and I live with my father and my grandmother. All the people in the village are good, but, sometimes, outsiders come to cause trouble.

Another day I wake up early in the morning. My grandmother was going to hit me.

I think: this has been happening since I was little, she says it's to have strength, but I find it strange. I remember the first time, I was 4 years old, she kicked me, I fainted straight away.

Now I can dodge.

— She says: Rude boy, you should let your grandmother hit you.

— I said: Right after, it hurts a lot, you use too much strength.

— She said: Your father, when he was little, used to take it.

— Said: But he can take it, I can't.

— She said: But I taught you how to fight.

— I said: But I never asked to learn.

She made an ugly face. — She said: Food is on the table anyway.

I went downstairs, my father was already eating at the table.

— He said: Good morning, son.

— I said: Good morning, I grabbed, ate a piece of bread and a juice.

— He said: Eat slowly, nobody is going to steal your food.

— I said: I have to go to school.

— My grandmother said: This kid is not like his donkey father.

— My father said: Mother, don't be like that.

— Grandmother said: You went to the city and came back without a wife and with my grandson.

— My father said: Shut up, mother.

The atmosphere was getting heavy, it's better to step on it.

— I said: See you later.

— He said: Tonight I want to talk to you.

— I said: Okay, bye.

I thought: what does my father want this time?

I went out, fed my dog named Leão, had that style, went to school. It was close to home, the path was beautiful, as always, just trees. It was like breathing the best oxygen, but, since it was a village where everyone knew each other, it was pure happiness.

I entered the school, it wasn't very big, because I lived in the village. I went straight to the room, sat by the window.

I couldn't pay attention in class, because I kept thinking about what my father said. Lately, there have been arguments between them, but I don't know why, I just want to enjoy life and without trouble.

The bell rang for lunch. I wasn't very popular, because I had a scar on my eye, but that didn't bother me either. I opened the lunch box, it was fish with rice.

I thought: the problem must be very big.

The rest of the classes went well, I went home. My father had a swollen face, I didn't even ask why, I know perfectly well who did it, it was my grandmother.

— I said: What did you want to talk about?

— He said: Tonight we talk, it's important for you.

My grandmother walks in and says: Looks like you didn't get enough.

Silence, because my father and I knew that, when my grandmother got upset, there wasn't much to do. I went to see the animals, fed them, cleaned Leão's doghouse, then I went to take a shower. I came out, it was already night. I was going downstairs, my grandmother jumped, she was going to kick me, she almost hit me. I dodged, but I fell down the stairs.

— My grandmother said: See, you still have a lot to learn.

— I said: Of course.

I thought: if it keeps going like this, I'll die of fright.

We ate, nobody said anything, we finished eating.

— My father said: Come outside with me.

— I said: Okay.

I thought: and now the news, let's see what it is?
