Prologue

Prologue:

The Beginning and the End

Sibylla's POV:

I thought I was happy.

I lived the life of an ordinary Luna in the pack, with a loving husband who was the Alpha. The man struggled to keep his eyes on me, and sometimes I wondered if we had truly confirmed our bond as mates. Maybe it was my imagination denying the fact that the man was supposed to be my mate. The one we were born for; the signs were there. So why did it feel so wrong to be the Luna to this arrogant alpha?

We had finished a ritual and mated more than once, but the wrongness was still there. It was an ordinary night in the living room. Everyone had gone to bed. I was lying there on the couch with my nose in a book that I was hooked on and couldn’t put down. No matter how hard I tried. It was something for me to do since I had done everything that was required of me and my position. A soft sigh escaped my lips, and I finished the chapter that I was on.

As I bookmarked the page, I sat up and placed the book on the table. My stomach was not feeling so good, but I had taken a pregnancy test, and it came out negative. It has to be something else, as I sat there feeling quite nauseous and not feeling well at all. I laid my head back against the couch and closed my eyes for a moment. It felt like someone had delivered a painful punch to my stomach, but it must be something that I had eaten earlier. A few more minutes went by, and I was able to breathe normally. The feeling was going away, and I could get to my feet.

Where was the stupid Alpha, anyway? A sneaky suspicion was going through me, but I didn’t know why I was feeling this way. My eyes went to the full moon in the black cape sky with its glittering jewels. It was a clear night, and my mate had managed to pick a good night for the ritual to be done. The night was quiet, but something was not right. Not with the way I have been feeling. My eyes looked at the time and noticed that it was late at night-after midnight now. With a shake of my head, I turned away from the window and made my way upstairs.

I walked into the large bedroom with the four-poster bed against the wall between large windows that had white curtains on them. There were wooden end tables on each side. One had my hairbrush, and the other had my husband’s watch on it. My feet guided me to the dresser as I pulled out some comfy pajamas. I slipped on some gray sweats and a black sports bra before walking over to the bedside that I sleep on. The cream-colored carpet was soft underneath my feet, and there was a desk with a computer, folders, and my history documentation for finishing up my degree.

There was a bookstand next to the wall by the bathroom door that was open. The idiot wasn’t up here either. Where the hell is he? The nauseous feeling came back, and a soft groan escaped my lips as this time it was more intense than before. With a final decision, I climbed into the bed and curled up on my side. Maybe I was coming down with something. It would be weird, but not unusual. It was going to be a long night as I had managed to close my eyes, ignoring this feeling in my stomach.

-(-

The morning came too early for me as I had woken up to an empty bedside. I was absolutely confused, but I had managed to push myself up and do my normal routine. I took a long hot shower, brushed my teeth, relieved myself, and then dried myself off before brushing out my long dark brown hair that shimmered in the moonlight and the sun as well. There were dark circles underneath my blue-gray eyes that looked more like a dark storm than anything else today. With careful practice, I had managed to cover up the dark circles with foundation and applied wings to the lids of my eyes. A little rouge color on my cheeks to make my cheekbones pop.

I applied a little lip gloss while wrangling my long dark locks into a French braid that fell over my shoulders in a fishtail. With one last look in the mirror, my face was ready for anything today. I discarded the towel and hung it up to dry before disappearing back into the room to dress in some dark jeans, a white lacy bra that went with the white tank top, and a white blouse that I chose to wear today. At least I was finding matching items today before pulling on black socks and some black short heel boots.

After I finished getting dressed, I stepped out the door and entered the hallway. Voices were coming from downstairs, and I tilted my head to the side before climbing down the steps and into the large living room area where I was located last night. I curled my shorter strands around my ear while making my way to the kitchen area. Kellan was standing there at the sink with a glass of water in his hand, and a woman was standing there next to him.

Our beta Liam was glaring at Kellan and the woman who had curls that flowed over one shoulder, vibrant amber eyes that looked almost gold in the kitchen, her skin was lightly tan from being out in the sun, and her body was slim, athletic, and perfectly in shape. Not to mention that her breasts looked like watermelons that were about to pop out of that black lacy halter top she was wearing. Kellan glanced over at me and gave me his infamous grin. “Morning, sleeping beauty.”

The other two in the kitchen turned to face me as I stepped further into the kitchen and folded my arms across my chest. My lips thinned into a frown while I asked, “Am I missing something here?”

My eyes narrowed at the woman who was grinning like the cat from Alice in Wonderland. Liam added as well, “Yeah, are we missing something here?”

“What got into you two this morning? This is Delilah Michaels. She was the witch who helped out with the ritual last night along with her coven.” He answered us while giving us an irritated expression.

Something dark curled in my stomach as it felt like something was trying to rear its ugly head, but somehow I could shove it away. The blonde woman gave us an innocent smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you both.”

“That’s Luna to you.” I hissed out my title.

The woman flinched as I gave my husband a glaring look before sauntering out of the kitchen and losing my appetite. Liam murmured something to them, but it was too low for me to hear what he was saying. Liam caught up to me as we both exited the pack house together, and I asked him, “How long was I out?”

“Well, it’s almost noon. It’s unusual for you to sleep in this late. Is everything okay?” He asked with a concerned expression.

This was why I had always liked Liam. He was level-headed and worried about his pack members. He was always caring, especially to me, and not because of the title that I hold as well. I gave him a soft smile. “Yes, I was feeling incredibly sick last night. Maybe I caught a stomach bug last night after the ritual.”

With a shrug of my shoulders, I noticed how his expression had darkened. It was my turn to ask, “Are you okay?”

His eyes snapped to mine, and he gave me a nod. “Yes, sorry.”

With a narrow look, I dropped it since I wasn’t in the mood for a conversation right now. As we went to do our duties around the territory and visit the families, I had to find out that Delilah’s coven had gone back to the city. So, why didn’t that blonde go with them? Why didn’t I feel jealous of this? I feel so out of it today. Everything felt too much for me to even deal with right now. Last night wasn’t the first time I felt sick to my stomach on other nights, but he was always there in the morning.

This morning was different, and seeing that woman in our home. It did something strange to me. Maybe this time. I was coming down with something. I should probably stop at the medic’s house and see if they have anything for my symptoms, but something was nagging at me that wasn’t it. Something was going on, and I was going to find out what Kellan was up to. I shouldn’t be feeling this way, but for some odd reason, I am.

As we finished up our daily tasks, it was late afternoon. We made our way back to the pack house and realized the elder was waiting for us as he gave us a soft smile that crinkled the corners of his lips. “It is so good to see you two mingling with our pack. It makes me feel such pride seeing that you are taking your role seriously, Luna Sibylla.”

A warm fluttering feeling spread through me, and warmth filled my chest, making me lift my chin a little higher upon the praise of an elder. “Thank you for your kind words.” I paused while looking at the front door, and he noticed my look. Elder Thrask spoke, “I had knocked on the door, but it looks to me that your mate isn’t home at the moment.”

“Is everything okay?” Liam asked him.

“Yes, I had stopped by for a house visit. I wanted to talk to you and your husband, Sibi, but I can tell the two of you, and both of you can relay the news to Kellan when he comes back.” The elder’s smile disappeared as he grew serious, which made us straighten our spines.

The feeling of being nauseous swirled through me, but I contained it to the best of my ability as the Elder explained the reason for his visit. “We have gotten word that the King of Wolves is visiting our little pack area.”

Liam’s mouth dropped open. “What? Why?”

I was too nauseous to care at that point, as my shoulders had tensed up again. The elder continued, “Yes, he is searching for a specific woman. According to the legend, she will become his queen to the wolves.”

“He sounds very persistent,” I murmured to him with a confused expression and did my best to push this feeling down.

The elder laughed softly, and Liam smiled warmly at me as well. “Yes, so I am here to prepare you guys for the visit. Please relay this message to Kellan. We must be supportive of the king.”

I nodded, feeling my stomach twisting with new anticipation. It confused me in more ways than one, but it seemed to ease the nauseous feeling inside of me. The Elder hugged each one of us and pulled away with a soft smile on his lips. It felt nice to be hugged by a loving grandfather figure. We watched him leave as a familiar face came into view and waved with excitement, “Look, your fangirl is here.”

Liam gently nudged me and gave me a grin. “Shut up.”

With a fond pinch to my hip, he walked away to the woman with her short brown locks bouncing around her shoulders. She was growing up, and I couldn’t believe she was a pre-teen already. His little sister wrapped her arms around Liam as he swung her around before taking her hand. She led him down the road, a small smile gracing my lips. I hope one of these days I will be a mother. I turned around, entering the house, and let out a soft sigh. The nauseous feeling didn’t stop at all, even though I had distractions. A headache was forming between my temples as I made my way up the stairs with one hand covering half of my face.

I approached the door and saw that someone had left it ajar. Pure shock went through my entire body. Anger pulsed through my very being at the sight of my mate in bed with two women. One was bouncing on his length, and the other one was riding his face. It was that stupid blonde girl from the kitchen, and the other one was another blonde. The nauseous feeling reared its ugly head along with a painful punch to my gut. The two women faced each other and shared an intimate kiss as my husband gave a playful smack to Delilah’s cheek.

With pure disgust on my face, I whirled around and flew down the hallway. There were so many feelings flooding through my entire being as a red haze filled my vision. A certain darkness was taking root inside me, feeling like I wanted nothing more than to rip his throat out for disrespecting me in this way. To humiliate me like this! How long was this going on behind my back? Was I blind to everything? Is that why I was feeling nauseous all those times because he was cheating? He was entertaining those women in the most adulterous way while I was working my ass off for this pack! I gritted my teeth, feeling like a stupid fool for this.

I will not cry. Shedding useless tears on this man is something I will not do. I will not! Laughter filtered through the hallway, and footsteps were coming down the stairs. With my arms crossed over my chest, I glare as the three of them gallop down the stairs as if they had a blast of a lifetime. All three of them came to a stop, their faces smiling and looking awkward with my mate in the middle of the two women. With a glaring look at my so-called husband, who was looking pale at the sight of me standing there.

“Out. Now.” I growled out to the two women while forcing myself to stay calm.

With a gentle push of his hands, he urged the women to do as I had commanded, which only pissed me off even more. As they trudged out of the pack house, I shot a fierce glare at my so-called husband, who had lied to my face, humiliated me, and now I had seen his unfaithful act of adultery. “Got something to say, or are you going to stand there all day?” I snapped at him.

My voice had broken him out of his stupor, and he came down the stairs. “You weren’t supposed to be home yet.”

“The Elder was waiting outside. How long were you with them in our room? In our bed?” I shouted at him.

His head snapped to me first before looking to the front door and then back to me. I gave him a cruel smile. “I want a divorce, and I want it now.”

“Not going to happen. You are mine. You belong to me.” He got in my face and gripped my upper arms tightly.

“Unless you want the entire pack to know of your adultery and the elders as well. Especially since the King of Wolves is coming here for a visit.” I hissed at him.

He shoved me against the back of the couch as his hands tightened on my upper arms, but I refused to show him the physical pain that he was inflicting upon me. I felt completely shattered, unable to sense anything, not even the pain. “You bitch.”

“Divorce. Now.” I seethed at him.

With an angry growl, he threw me to the side, and I couldn’t catch myself on the floor at all. I landed with a hard impact as I gritted my teeth before shouting at him, “Did that make you feel like a man? Huh?”

He gave me a furious look, but before he could say anything. The sound of the front door opening caught our attention. “Liam...” I breathed out while looking to the door and seeing our Beta standing there with a furious look.

“What the hell is going on here, Kellan?” He asked sharply.

“What does it look like? Taking the trash out.” Kellan hissed.

I gave him a warning look, and Kellan was wise enough to know I would expose him and his actions. Go ahead. Insult me one more time, and you won’t be able to show your face to your wolves or any other gatherings at all.” I practically snarled as I took pure delight in the pain that had swept over my body.

Liam came over to me, helping me up from the ground. Only for me to brush him off, “Go. Get the elders.”

The surprise was on his face, but realization set in. There was a hardness clouding his dark brown orbs. “Very well then.”

As Liam went to fetch the Elders, I glared at the man, and he twisted his lips into a sneer. “I will find you again, Sibylla. You will belong to me.”

“I am not a prize, and I am not a fool.” I hissed at him before demanding , “How long has this been going on? All those times that I was feeling sick to my stomach. You couldn’t bring your disgusting self to stop seeing those women. You dared to lie to my face and humiliate me!”

“Get over yourself. You are not a queen. You are a Luna, and you are mine.” He growled out.

“No, I am not,” I growled in return as he took a step back. I advanced further as something was unlocking itself inside me. A strange feeling of wanting to make him kneel before me. It felt like I was growing into something more, unchained from whatever this stupid male had done to me. “I will never, ever be yours again. Do I make myself clear?” I snarled.

He had backed away from me with his own fury burning in those hazel eyes of his. I wanted nothing more than to show him who he was truly messing with. I was so angry that my entire body was shaking, and it took every ounce of self-control to not launch myself at him.

Before the violence could occur any more, the door opened again, and the Elders stepped inside. The one who had spoken to us looked confused before he asked, “What’s going on? Why the sudden change? We need to be reunited when the King shows up.”

“You know what. Forget it. At a later date, I will send you the papers.” I snapped while glaring at them. “I, Sibylla Marie Vernier, reject you, Kellan Mitchellson.” I spoke the words to the man as the pain ripped through me, but something else was there. It felt like I was free. Unshackle from this man. He crumbled to his knees as the pain ripped through his very being, and I felt satisfied seeing him in pain. Once I was able to move again, Liam handed me my bags and luggage. I didn’t bother to look at him as I stormed off.

I left, slamming the door shut behind me and closing the chapter on this hellish ride. I got into the car that the elder had brought, before the driver took me to the airport.

I thought I was happy. I thought I was living the life meant for me, but it was all a lie. A stupid lie, and I was the foolish woman who thought she had gotten her perfect ending.

I was blind to his actions and the first warnings that went through my very being. All of this was wrong! All of it!
