The shore between
SYNOPSIS/PROLOGUE
In a coastal town veiled in mist andsecrets, two ancient lineages have quietly coexisted: the merfolk of the deep waters and the werewolves of the surrounding woods. They’ve long honored an unspoken truce—land and sea, never intertwined.
But everything shifts the night of a red moon, when a young werewolf named Rowan saves a mysterious girl, Mira, who washes ashore with silver blood and a shattered tail. She shouldn't be there. He shouldn't have helped her. But something ancient is waking—something that feeds on both fur and fin.And it wants them both.
Chapter One: The Shore Between
The waves had never been this restless.
Even before the red moon rose, Mira had felt it in the currents—the shift. A deep pressure humming through the sea like a distant drumbeat. The elders called it the Rift Wake, a time when the boundaries between sea and land thinned, when creatures long slumbering might stir again.
But Mira hadn’t planned to breach the surface that night.
She hadn’t planned to run.
She had no choice.
Above, the crimson glow of the moon bled across the sky. Salt clung to her lashes as she struggled through the storm-churned surf, tail slick with seaweed and blood. Her silver scales had cracked in the battle. Her heart pounded like war drums. And behind her...something followed.
Mira barely reached the rocky shore when the darkness surged behind her—too fast, too cold. A flash of claws. A burst of pain.
And then—Him.
A growl, low and thunderous. Fur streaked with rain. Golden eyes flaring like fire through the dark.
The creature—no, boy—stood between her and the thing that hunted her.He fought like the storm. And when the thing vanished into the night, he turned to her—breathing hard, scenting the salt and fear in the air.“You’re not supposed to be here,” he said, voice rough. And Mira, half-fading, whispered back:“ I'm injured,my tail is cracked", and this stranger just saved her life.
He stepped closer, cautious—like approaching something sacred and dangerous all at once. there was a flicker of confusion in his eyes, maybe even awe. her vision blurred at the edges. The cold from the sea wrapped around her like chains, and the pain from her tail was pulsing in waves. she tried to lift her hand, to speak again, but her strength slipped away like sand through fingers.Blood—silver and shimmering—ran down the rocks beneath her.“I need to get you out of here,” the boy said, more to himself than to her. Then louder, to her: “Hey. Stay with me. I won’t let them take you.”He scooped her into his arms. The warmth of him—so different from the sea—pressed against her skin. His scent was forest and wild rain. It was strange...but comforting. As her eyelids fluttered, she managed to breathe one word:“Who…?”
And then darkness took her.
