The rain poured heavily outside as Ji-ah entered her new school.
Teacher Kim: "Everyone, this is our new student, Ji-ah."
Class: "Hello."
Ji-ah smiled nervously and looked around.
Then she noticed something strange.
One desk in the back corner was completely empty.
No books.
No bag.
No chair.
Nothing.
Yet nobody sat near it.
Not even the students in the next row.
Ji-ah: "Teacher, is that seat available?"
The classroom instantly became silent.
Teacher Kim's smile disappeared for a second.
Teacher Kim: "No."
Ji-ah: "Oh... then whose seat is it?"
The teacher quickly changed the subject.
Teacher Kim: "Please sit by the window."

During lunch break...
Ji-ah: "Why is everyone avoiding that desk?"
Soo-bin nearly dropped her drink.
Soo-bin: "Don't ask about it."
Ji-ah: "Why?"
Soo-bin: "Because every student who asks that question hears someone calling their name after school."
Ji-ah: "That's not funny."
Soo-bin: "I'm not joking."

The final bell rang.
Students rushed out of the classroom.
Within minutes, the school was nearly empty.
Ji-ah packed her bag and stood up.
Then...
Voice: "Ji-ah..."
She froze.
The voice came from behind her.
Inside the classroom.
Ji-ah: "Hello?"
No answer.
She slowly turned around.
The room was empty.
Then she noticed something.
The empty desk wasn't empty anymore.
A notebook sat on top of it.
It hadn't been there before.
Her hands trembled as she opened it.
On the first page, written in red ink:
"I finally found someone who can hear me."
Suddenly...
A chair scraped across the floor behind her.
Slowly.
Very slowly.
Ji-ah turned.
Someone was now sitting at the empty desk.
A student.
Head lowered.
Face hidden.
And then the student slowly looked up.
