Ladelia Gibbons: Waking Sleeping Beauty began on July 30, 2024, shortly after I returned from North Carolina. The idea came to me while visiting a friend’s house with my mother and her friend. During that visit, I met a girl whose name I will respectfully keep private, and I read a poem called “Your Time” by Cornell M. Boyd. Although I sadly don’t remember the poem’s exact words today, both the encounter and the poem became inspirations for this story.

The story was also inspired by a dream I had years earlier involving the astral spirit Eirnbadar and the shamaness Vira. Those ideas eventually came together to create the world of Ladelia Gibbons.

This book was originally written on Inkitt, later moved to Wattpad, and eventually published through Amazon KDP. It may not have put me “on the map,” but that isn’t going to stop me.

I won’t quit.

Summary

Ladelia Gibbons is a teenager desperate to escape her troubled home life. After a school field trip, strange dreams and visions begin blurring the line between reality and fantasy. When Ladelia encounters Vira, a mysterious shamaness who seems to know far more about her than she should, Ladelia discovers a shocking truth: the world she has been living in isn’t real. Her consciousness has been trapped inside an alternate universe created by the sinister Papa Djinnosaurus. With Vira’s help, Ladelia must uncover the truth about this strange world and find a way to break free. But Papa Djinnosaurus won’t let her go easily, and Ladelia must confront mysterious forces while discovering a power hidden within herself. Can Ladelia escape the world that has imprisoned her, or will she remain trapped forever? Ladelia Gibbons: Waking Sleeping Beauty is a coming-of-age fantasy about friendship, freedom, dreams, family, and discovering the strength to reclaim your own reality.
