Beauty Ain’t Skin Deep started from a compilation of POV ideas, but somewhere along the way, Ye-Bin became more personal to me than I originally expected.

I’ve experienced what it’s like to be judged because of your body. If I gained a little weight, I could be told I was “too fat.” If I became thinner, suddenly I was “too thin.” Sometimes it felt like no matter what I looked like, someone always had something to say.

And eventually, I realized something:

I don’t have to live my life trying to satisfy everyone else’s idea of what I should look like.

People will always have opinions. They may change their minds tomorrow, contradict what they said yesterday, or find something new to criticize. But my worth cannot depend on constantly trying to meet someone else’s expectations.

Most importantly, I reminded myself that Allah is the only One whose judgment truly matters—and He never made me feel like I wasn’t enough. 🤍

That realization became part of the heart behind Ye-Bin’s journey.

Her story isn’t about becoming beautiful because she becomes a model.

It’s about learning that she was never unworthy of love, respect, or happiness in the first place.

I hope anyone who has ever been made to feel “too much,” “not enough,” “too fat,” “too thin,” or simply not beautiful enough can see a little bit of themselves in Ye-Bin—and remember that other people’s opinions do not define their worth.
