ENIGMA
ENIGMA;
A person or thing that is mysterious and difficult to understand.
The first thing everyone noticed about rain when she walks into a room is her hoodie and this Monday morning wasn't an exception.
Rain walked quietly through the crowded hallway, her black hooded pulled over her head and all head turned to look at her after a while they all went back to continue whatever they were doing before the stares.
She was so used to the stares and whisper she get everytime she walks into a room. she strolled to her locker pick up some books and shut it close . The bell rang student rushed into their class rooms, laughing and talking about everything and nothing then headed straight to her first class chem.
“Rain!” someone called from behind her.
She stopped for a moment but didn't turn around.
Then she heard footsteps getting closer. The footsteps stopped right behind her.
“Why do you always walk so fast?” a familiar voice asked.
Rain turned around and saw her friend standing there, slightly out of breath.
"Because have somewhere to be,” Rain replied quietly and rolled her eyes.
Kyra rolled her eyes and adjusted her bag.
“You say that every morning, but we have the same class.”
Rain gave a small shrug and started walking again.
Kyra followed beside her, still talking about the previous day's events.
As they entered the classroom, a few students glanced at Rain
She ignored them and quietly took her usual seat at the back.
The classroom was already noisy when Rain took her seat
Kyra dropped into the chair beside her and continued talking.
Rain listened quietly, occasionally nodding
A few minutes later, the teacher walked into the classroom.
“Good morning, everyone.”
“Good morning, ma’am,” the class replied.
The teacher placed her books on the desk and looked around the room.
“Before we begin, I have an announcement.”
The classroom slowly became quiet.
“There will be a new seating arrangement starting today.”
Immediately, everyone began complaining, groans was heard from all angle.
Rain simply rested her chin on her hands
The teacher began calling out names, and students slowly moved to their new seats.
“Rain,” the teacher called. “You'll be sitting in the second row.”
Rain looked up immediately.
“I'm sorry, what?
“The second row,” the teacher repeated calmly.
Rain glanced toward the empty seat, then back at her teacher.
“I don't want to sit there.”
A few students turned around, already interested in the argument.
“It's not really a choice, Rain,” the teacher replied.
“I've been sitting at the back for two years. Why do I have to move now?”
“Because I said so.”
Rain folded her arms.
“That doesn't really explain anything.”
The classroom went completely quiet.
Her friend covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.
“Rain,” the teacher warned. “Don't test my patience.”
“I'm not testing anything. I'm just asking a question.”
“And I'm giving you an answer. Take your things and move.”
Rain stared at her for a few seconds before reluctantly picking up her books.
“Fine,” she muttered, “but I still think this is unnecessary.”
Rain dropped her books on the table with a thud and sat down annoyed
She opened her notebook and began copying the notes from the board.
A few minutes passed, and the classroom became unusually quiet.
Then someone gently tapped her from behind
Rain turned looked at the person who taped her.
he had slightly messy dark-brown hair that fell naturally across his forehead. His dark eyes were calm, but there was a playful spark in them that made it seem like he was always amused by something. His eyebrows were slightly raised, giving him a curious expression, while a small smile rested on his lips. He had a straight nose and a defined jawline.
He wore a neatly fitted school uniform with his tie slightly loosened, giving him a relaxed, effortless appearance. His sleeves were rolled up a little, and his backpack hung from one shoulder.
“Hey,” he whispered, holding out a pen. “Is this yours?”
Rain looked at the pen and shook her head. “No.”
“Oh.” He glanced at it awkwardly. “My bad.”
He turned to leave, but Rain noticed the name written on the pen.
“Wait,” she called quietly. “Is your name Alex?”
The boy looked back at her, surprised.
“Yeah. How did you know?”
Rain pointed at the pen. “Your name is literally written o
n it.”
Alex looked down and laughed softly.
“Right. That was stupid.”
Rain smiled beneath her hood.
For the first time that morning, someone had actually me laugh
Alex pulled the empty chair beside Rain a little closer.
“Do you always sit this quietly?” he asked.
Rain raised an eyebrow. “Do you always talk this much?”
Okay, he talks a lot.
Alex grinned. “Only when I’m bored.”
“Then you must be very bored.”
Why am I even talking to him? I usually don't talk to anyone on the first day.
“Extremely.”
Rain shook her head and returned to her notebook.
Alex glanced at her page. “You’re actually taking notes?”
“Obviously.”
“Wow. I thought everyone just pretended to listen.”
Rain looked at him. “Some of us actually want to pass.”
And apparently some people came here just to distract me.
Alex laughed quietly.
“Fair enough.”
Rain tried to focus on her notes, but she could still feel him looking at the page.
He's going to keep talking, isn't he?
The teacher suddenly turned around.
“Alex, if you’re done disturbing your classmate, perhaps you can tell us what I just explained.”
Alex froze.
Rain covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.
Oh no. He actually got caught.
“Um… I was just—”
“Listening?” the teacher finished.
“Yes, sir
The class burst into laughter.
Alex looked at Rain and whispered, “You did this.”
Rain smiled innocently. “I didn’t even say anything.”
And somehow, I was having fun.
The teacher turned back toward the board.
Alex leaned closer and whispered, “You were laughing at me.”
Rain kept her eyes on her notebook. “Maybe.”
Okay, maybe I was.
“You're mean.”
Rain glanced at him. “You survived.”
Alex smiled. “Barely.”
Rain tried not to smile again.
Why is this guy so unserious?
For a few minutes, they both stayed quiet.
Rain copied the last few lines from the board.
Then Alex gently tapped her desk again.
She looked at him with her eyebrows scrushed
What now?”
“Do you know where the library is?”
Rain blinked. “No.”
Are you new" Alex asked
Nope.” rain replied popping the "p"
"Then why do you know where the library is " Alex asked confused as he rested his chin on his hand eyeing rain
"Because I don't care” Rain replied nonchalantly as she stares outside the window waiting impatiently for the bell
" What a response" He laughed.
“I was just wondering because I got lost twice already.”
“Twice?”
"Okay… three times.”
Rain stared at him.
How do you even get lost inside one school?
Alex shrugged. “It's a big place.”
Before Rain could reply, the bell rang.
The classroom immediately filled with noise as everyone began packing their bags.
Rain closed her notebook and slipped it into her backpack.
Alex stood up.
“See you around, Rain.”
She paused.
He remembered my name.
“Yeah,” she replied quietly. “See you.”
Alex walked away with the other students.
Rain watched him for a second before looking down at her bag.
Rain adjusted her backpack and stepped into the hallway with the rest of the class.
The noise of students talking filled the corridor.
She headed toward her next class, but Kyra quickly caught up with her.
“Rain, wait!”
Rain turned around. “What?”
Kyra walked beside her.
“You're coming to the library after school, right?”
Rain frowned slightly. “For what?”
Kyra stared at her.
“The group assignment.”
Rain remembered and sighed.
“Oh, that.”
I completely forgot about it.
“We're supposed to finish the research today,” Kyra continued.
“I know.”
Kyra smiled. “Good, because I was starting to think you'd disappear again.”
“I wasn't going anywhere.”
“Sure.”
Rain rolled her eyes.
They reached their classroom and took their usual seats.
A few minutes later, the teacher walked in carrying a stack of papers.
The room slowly became quiet.
“Alright, everyone,” the teacher said. “Before we continue, let's talk about your assignment.”
Rain opened her notebook.
At least I remembered before the teacher asked.
The teacher began explaining the instructions again.
Rain listened carefully, writing down a few important points.
Beside her, Kyra leaned over.
“Did you understand that last part?”
Rain nodded. “We're supposed to include three sources.”
“oh, right.”
The teacher finished explaining and dismissed them for lunch.
Rain closed her notebook.
Kyra immediately stood up.
“Library?”
Rain nodded. “After school.”
“Good.”
They walked out together.
As they reached the staircase, someone nearly bumped into Rain.
“sorry.”
Rain looked up.
It was Alex.
He stepped back quickly.
“Didn't see you there.”
Rain smiled slightly. “Clearly.”
Alex laughed.
Kyra looked at Rain, then at Alex.
“So you two know each other?”
“Barely,” Rain answered.
Alex raised an eyebrow. “Barely?”
Rain looked up at him her hoodie still covering her face
“we've spoken for one day.”
“That's still knowing each other.”
Why does he have an answer for everything?
Kyra smiled knowingly.
“Interesting.”Rain gave her a warning look.
“Don't start.”
Alex looked between them.
“Should I be worried?”
No,” Rain and Kyra said at the same time.
They both laughed
Alex shook his head.
“I'll see you after school, then.”
Rain nodded.
“Yeah. Don't forget the assignment.”
Alex smiled. “I won't.”
He walked away.
Kyra waited until he was out of earshot.
Then she looked at Rain.
“What?”
Kyra grinned. “Nothing.”
Rain sighed.
This is going to be a long day.
