A painful memory
The story begins on a rainy day in New York. The soil had become sticky, and the leaves of the plants were holding raindrops. The animals were hiding under plastic bags, protecting themselves from the harsh rain.
A girl sitting on a wet bench was holding a beautiful doll in her hands. The girl's hair was jet-black. She was wearing a blue hairband in her loose hair. She was dressed in a simple pink top and blue pants.
The girl's doll was wearing a long pink gown decorated with glittering stars. She had blonde hair. The girl and her doll were lost in their own world, as if they didn't care about the world, life, or even themselves.
After a long time, the rain stopped. Birds came out of their nests and started chirping. The flowers bloomed once again, and the fresh air was filled with a cool breeze. Children came out of their houses and began playing in the puddles formed by the rain. They jumped around in them, making small drops of water fly onto their clothes and faces.
But the girl was still smoothing her doll's hair.
Her own hair had fallen over her whole face, and only her pink lips were visible.
Suddenly, a voice broke the silence.
"It's been ten years," the voice said in a deep and firm tone.
The girl looked up, and finally, her face was revealed. She had bangs covering her forehead. Her fair face was glowing, and her dark brown eyes looked upset and confused.
A man was standing in front of her. He was wearing a black hat and a black coat. His hands were thin and large. His face looked mysterious because the shadow of his hat covered most of it.
The man stepped forward and sat on the bench. One of his eyes was visible beneath the shadow of his hat. It was blue.
He spoke again.
"I don't know what's going on. I'm just stepping forward, and I don't even count the steps I've taken."
This time, his voice was gentle.
He slowly looked at the girl and took off his hat.
The man was no one other than the girl's uncle, Tom, who had just come from the graveyard.
The girl stared at him in surprise.
"Uncle Tom, so it's you."
Her voice was soft but trembling because she had been sitting in the cold rain for a long time.
The man sighed and said sadly, "I can't believe I'm still alive. It's hard to even believe it."
White mist escaped from his mouth in the cold air.
Actually, the girl's grandmother had died ten years ago, when the girl was only four years old. Her grandmother had been everything to her.
The girl's name was inspired by her grandmother's name. The girl's name was Christy, while her grandmother's name was Christina. Christina had died in a tragic car crash.
After this, Christy's father, Mr. John, wrote a book about his mother called The Moment Which Changed Everything.
It had been ten years, but Christy was still upset and unhappy. She didn't smile as much as she used to.
Her mother was a teacher, and her uncle was a clockmaker.
Life is beautiful, but sometimes we don't know how to enjoy it.
The next morning, everything seemed as usual. Christy's father went to the office. Her mother and uncle went to work. Christy was all alone.
She had to go to school, but she was waiting for Mrs. Peters, the housekeeper, to come.
After that, Mrs. Peters did all the household work, took care of the house, and never stole anything.
A few moments later, Mrs. Peters came. She was wearing a long blue dress. She had a pouch in one hand and some fruits in the other.
Christy greeted her.
Mrs. Peters replied warmly and gave her the basket of fruits.
“My elder daughter is getting married, and I want you to join the wedding,” she said.
“Thank you, Mrs. Peters. We will,” said Christy.
Then Mrs. Peters put on a white apron and started washing the dishes.
Christy took her school bag, polished her shoes, and left for school.
Along the way, Christy saw a few people singing loudly. There were five boys and two girls. They looked like college students.
Then Christy noticed a huge board. It announced that a new hotel called Fresh Food was going to open the next day.
The board showed pictures of delicious-looking food to attract customers and make them curious about the new hotel.
Christy looked at the board for a moment and then continued walking toward her school.
