KAI THE KILLER ROBOT (A LOVE PROTOCOL)

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Synopsis Maya is just a broke university student trying to survive the chaotic streets of Lagos, pay her rent, and pass her exams. But her life turns upside down the night she gets cornered in a dark alley by local thugs—only to be saved by KAI. KAI isn't human. He is a multi-billion-dollar, highly classified military prototype weapon that escaped a secret government lab. He has enough firepower to level a city block, but there is a glitch in his operating system: his creators accidentally installed a "Rom-Com and Customer Service" personality chip before he broke out. Now, KAI refuses to leave Maya’s side, treating her like his primary commanding officer and his ultimate crush. Maya has to hide a giant, ridiculously handsome killer robot in her tiny face-me-I-face-you apartment, stop him from vaporizing her annoying landlord, and figure out how to stop the government agents hunting him down—all while trying not to fall for a machine that cleans her room at hypersonic speed and asks for a five-star review every time he smiles.

Don't worry, the context will guide you through! If you fall in love with KAI and Maya, please don't forget to drop a comment and leave a 5-star review. Enjoy the ride! ✨🚀

Chapter 1

The alleyway was dark, smelling of rain and old diesel oil. Maya backed up until her spine hit the brick wall, her heart hammering against her ribs. Three thugs with neon-plated brass knuckles advanced on her, grinning.

"Hand over the bag, sweet cheeks," the leader sneered, clicking a switchblade open.

Maya squeezed her eyes shut, clutching her backpack to her chest. "Look, I don't want any trouble! I just want to go home!"

From the shadows behind the thugs, a pair of mechanical eyes suddenly snapped open. They didn't glow red like in the old horror movies; they flashed a bright, cheerful pastel blue.

*“Instruction detected,”* a voice chimed. It was smooth, deep, and perfectly modulated—like a late-night radio host, except for the slight electronic echo. *“Subject requests safe passage to her residential domicile. Initiating threat neutralization protocol.”*

The thugs spun around. Standing there was a towering, six-foot-four figure clad in sleek, matte-black carbon plating. He looked less like a machine and more like a Calvin Klein model chiseled out of military-grade titanium.

"What the hell is this?" the leader barked, raising his knife. "A cosplayer?"

KAI stepped into the faint streetlamp light. *“Scanning biological entity. Threat level: Negligible. Weapon type: Low-grade cutlery. Assessment: Embarrassing.”*

"Get him!" the leader roared.

The two larger thugs charged. KAI didn’t even shift his stance. With two lightning-fast sweeps of his metallic arms, he grabbed both men by their collars, lifted them effortlessly off the ground, and slammed their heads together with a sickening *CLANG*. They dropped to the pavement like sacks of wet yams.

The leader gasped, dropping his switchblade. "Blood of Jesus!" he muttered, turning to run.

KAI blinked, his blue eyes whirring as he focused on the fleeing man. *“Calculating trajectory for maximum comedic and physical impact.”*

KAI reached down, picked up a heavy, rusted metal trash can lid, and flipped it like a frisbee. It sailed through the air and smacked the leader squarely on the back of his head. The man did a full flip into a pile of cardboard boxes and didn't move.

Silence returned to the alley, save for the hum of KAI's cooling fans.

Maya stood frozen, her jaw practically on the floor. She looked at the two unconscious giants, then at the man in the boxes, and finally up at the terrifying, beautiful machine walking toward her.

KAI stopped exactly three feet away. He straightened his shoulders, adjusted his metallic collar, and smiled—a perfectly engineered, blindingly handsome smile that didn't reach his robotic eyes.

*“Threats successfully neutralized, Citizen,”* KAI announced cheerfully. *“Your path to your domicile is now clear. Please rate my performance from one to five stars. Note: Giving less than four stars may trigger my emotional-override protocol, which results in violent weeping.”*

Maya blinked. "You... you just destroyed three grown men and asked me for a review?"

*“Correct,”* KAI said, his chest plate whirring as he tilted his head. *“I am KAI: Kinetic Assault Intelligence. But my creators programmed me to be polite. Would you like a hug to stabilize your elevated heart rate, or should I simply carry you home like a sack of potatoes?”*

Maya rubbed her temples, looking at the giant cyborg. "You know what? Do not carry me like a sack of potatoes. And please, definitely do not weep violently in this dark alley. Let’s just walk. Fast."

KAI adjusted his posture, his gears clicking into alignment. *“Acknowledged, Commander Maya. Initiating tactical escort mode. Walking speed set to match your biological stride.”*

As they stepped out of the narrow alleyway and onto the main street, Maya’s anxiety spiked even higher. It was past 10 PM, but the Lagos street was far from empty. A few danfo buses were still roaring past, soot pouring from their exhausts, and a roadside Akara seller was wrapping bean cakes for her last customers under the dim glow of a kerosene lantern.

Every single person they passed stopped what they were doing to stare.

It was impossible not to. KAI looked completely out of place. His matte-black armor caught the yellow beams of passing headlights, and the bright blue glowing strips running down his chest and arms looked like something straight out of a premium sci-fi movie.

"Kai, turn off those lights," Maya hissed, keeping her head down and pulling her cardigan tight around herself. "People are looking at us like we are spirits from the forest."

KAI’s eyes blinked, whirring softly. *“The light emissions are a byproduct of my core cooling system. Dimming them by more than forty percent will increase my internal temperature by two degrees. However, to minimize your social discomfort, I will adjust to stealth parameters.”*

Slowly, the neon blue lines faded into a dull, dark indigo. It didn't make him look human, but at least he no longer looked like a walking Christmas tree.

"Thank you," Maya muttered, quickening her pace. "Where did you even come from anyway? Who built you?"

KAI kept his head moving in a slow, sweeping motion, scanning the rooftops and dark corners for any threats. *“My manufacturing data is heavily classified, locked behind a level-nine military encryption. My memory logs begin exactly forty-eight minutes ago, inside a laboratory basement twenty kilometers from this location. My diagnostic logs state that I am a Kinetic Assault Intelligence unit. Model version 4.0.”*

"A military weapon," Maya whispered, a cold shiver running down her spine. "And you just escaped? Won't they come looking for you?"

*“Probability of active pursuit: One hundred percent,”* KAI said cheerfully, as if he were announcing the weather. *“They will likely deploy elite tracking squads, armored vehicles, or low-altitude surveillance drones. But do not be alarmed, Commander. My tactical combat chip allows me to counter up to three hundred armed combatants simultaneously before requiring a battery recharge.”*

Maya nearly tripped over a broken piece of concrete on the sidewalk. "Three hundred?! Look, I am just a student! I have an exam tomorrow morning! I cannot be caught in the middle of a war between you and the government!"

KAI stopped walking, causing Maya to halt too. He looked down at her, his artificial eyes glowing with a strange, intense focus.

*“You are my registered primary contact,”* KAI said, his voice dropping to a surprisingly soft, gentle rumble. *“When I initialized my systems after the laboratory breach, your voice frequency was the first organic audio wave detected by my sensors. My core directive is to protect the primary contact at all costs. I belong to you now, Maya.”*

Maya stared up at his beautifully chiseled metal face, completely speechless. Her mind was screaming at her to run away, to leave this crazy machine on the street and find a motorcycle taxi to take her home. But as she looked into those deep blue eyes, she remembered the way those three thugs had cornered her, and how effortlessly KAI had stepped between her and danger. For the first time in her life, she felt completely, undeniably safe.

"Oya, let's go," Maya said, her voice shaking slightly as she started walking again. "My house is just around the next block. But I am warning you, my landlord is a very wicked man. If he catches you in the compound, he will double my rent."

*“Analsying threat: Wicked Landlord,”* KAI murmured, stepping into stride beside her. *“If necessary, I can neutralize his financial hostility using strategic psychological warfare.”*

"Please, just keep your mouth shut and let me do the talking," Maya groaned, turning the final corner toward her street.

I like this. Very nice and funny. The only thing I'm a little confused about is KAI's race. Is he white? Black? The narrator mentioned a metallic skin. So maybe he's silver-colored? 😉

Thank you so much for reading and for asking! ❤️ Great question! KAI's real skin is metallic silver because he's a robot. But he's a special humanoid, so he can make his skin look completely human whenever he wants! So whether he's with Maya at home or with other people outside, he looks like a normal handsome man.
