PROLOGUE

Author's POV:

The desk in the corner of the quiet bedroom was littered with trace papers, architectural rulers, and a steaming mug of cardamom tea. But Kayal’s fingers weren’t drafting floor plans tonight.

They were flying across her laptop keyboard at lightning speed.

The soft glow of the screen illuminated her face in the dark room, casting warm light over her maroon silk night-saree. Her breath was coming in short, uneven hitches as she typed, her cheeks flushed a deep, crimson red.

“…his hands pinned her wrists above her head against the cool glass of the mirror, his chest heaving as his dark eyes locked onto hers in the reflection. ‘Look at yourself in the mirror,’ he whispered against her shell-pink ear, his voice low and dangerous. ‘You look so mine right now… look at how wet you are for me—’”

A pair of heavy boots thudded softly against the floor outside the doorway, followed by the faint, familiar scent of rain, damp earth, and tobacco.

Veera had returned.

He moved like a silent shadow through the room, shrugging off his jacket. He had spent the last twelve hours down in the southern district, settling a high-stakes, dirty land dispute with local contractors who thought they could cross his authority. His jaw was tight with residual tension, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing raw muscle and veins.

He stopped two steps behind her chair.

Kayal was so intensely engrossed in her screen—chewing her lower lip, eyes wide, typing furious descriptions of a jaw-dropping, mirror-facing intimate scene—that she didn’t hear him approach.

Veera leaned down slowly, resting his large palms on the back of her wooden chair. His dark eyes scanned the bright document on her laptop.

He froze.

His thick eyebrows shot up, a look of utter shock flashing across his usually stoic, unshakeable face. Then, as his eyes tracked down the explicit paragraphs—reading every wild, steamy detail she was typing so effortlessly—a slow, dangerous, insanely amused smirk spread across his lips.

My quiet little architect wife writes like a downright sinner.

Without a word, Veera tilted his head down. His warm, stubble-rough lips brushed deliberately against the soft skin of her exposed neck, right where the heavy, pure-goldthalichain rested against her collarbone.

Kayal gasped aloud, her hands freezing over the keyboard as a violent shiver wrecked through her spine!

“Veera!” She spun her head around in absolute shock, her hands instantly flying out to slam the laptop lid shut. Her heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird, her face burning hotter than fire. “When—when did you come back?!”

“Just in time to see my sweet architect wife typing at a hundred words per minute,” Veera rasped out, his low, gravelly baritone vibrating against her ear. He didn’t step back. Instead, he reached out, his thumb lightly caressing the yellow-gold thread of herthali.

Kayal tried to look stern, but the deep blush spreading down her neck betrayed her completely. “It’s—it’s just a chapter update for my book! Don’t look!”

Veera chuckled, a rare, deep sound from his chest that made her stomach do flip-flops. He leaned over her, placing his hand over hers on the laptop lid, gently prying it open just enough to glance at the last sentence.

“Mirror scene, huh?” He purred softly, his dark, hooded eyes lifting to burn into hers with pure, liquid heat. “I had no idea my traditional, soft-spoken wife had such a wicked imagination. You wrote this so vividly... tell me, Kayal...”

His free hand slid down her waist, pulling her softly against his chest as he bent down, his lips hovering mere millimeters from hers.

“...do you want to recreate it?”

Kayal’s breath hitched in her throat. She looked at his intense, handsome face—scratched from the day’s trouble, yet looking at her like she was his entire universe. She glanced at the laptop screen, then back up into his dark, hungry eyes.

A tiny, shy nod escaped her.

Veera’s smirk deepened into something utterly breathtaking. Before she could even draw another breath, his arms slid under her thighs, effortlessly scooping her up into his arms like she weighed nothing at all. Kayal gasped, wrapping her arms tightly around his broad shoulders as he carried her toward the tall, floor-to-ceiling mirror near the balcony...
